  8. PURPOSE
  9.         Everybody  who  owns the SCSI-Kit-IV for his Blizzard accelerator, and
  10.         who  owns  removable drives like ZIP, streamers etc knows the problem:
  11.         Crashes,  SCSI  bus  lockups  etc,  which  only go away if he switches
  12.         reseletcion and removable off via UnitControl.
  13.  
  14.         But  who  looked  on Phase5`s ftp server could see a nice improvement:
  15.         there  is in /pub/phase5/beta/scsi/ a new SCSI Rom 8.1 available!  And
  16.         even more nice news:  It`s not developed any more by Ralph Schmidt, so
  17.         there  could  be  some improvements!  And there are some:  The problem
  18.         with  reselection and removable has (nearly) gone away, so you finally
  19.         can use your streamer/zip/whatever without never ending crashes!

  21.         But  what  the  hell can you do with a simple ROM image?  Again pay $$
  22.         for  an  update,  so  you  finally  can  work  a  bit better with your
  23.         expensive hardware?

  25.         Well, this is where SoftSCSI comes:  It`s a software patch, so you can
  26.         use the new 1230scsi.device v 8.1 without any hardware changes!

  28. USAGE & INSTALLATION
  29.         Very  easy:   First  copy at least the files SoftSCSI and A1234.ROM of
  30.         this  archive  in  your C:  assign.  Now put in the first line of your
  31.         startup-sequence this one:

  35.         NOTE:   If you use other programs like FastEXEC, KickBlizz etc., there
  36.         is a NORES option, so you won`t have multiple resets.  An example:

  40.         C:KickBlizz MyROM

  42. TECHNICAL
  43.         This  paragraph  is  for advanced users only, so don`t get mad because
  44.         you don`t understand a word :)

  46.         It`s quite a bit hacky, but it works :^) To understand it, you need to
  47.         know  a  bit  about the autoconfig(TM) process.  SoftSCSI hooks itself
  48.         right  after  the  expansion.library  in the KickTagPtr.  On a reboot,
  49.         expansion.lib  now  configures  our expansion board, the blizzard, and
  50.         the   Blizzard  rom  itself  configures  the  SCSI  rom,  if  present.
  51.         Thereafter SoftSCSI initalizes the original Blizzard config area anew,
  52.         using  the  new scsi rom, so when the autoboot process starts, not the
  53.         original  scsi.device  but  the  new  one  will be called.  That`s all
  54.         folks.
