- Short: Samples by Lynn Chandler for UPD/Arq.
- Uploader: Kenneth@daffy.aatech.com (Kenneth Jennings)
- Author: Kenneth@daffy.aatech.com (Kenneth and of course Lynnie, too)
- Type: mus/smpl
-
- A set of samples ideally suited for UPD/Arq recorded by my
- fiance (using her professionally tuned "radio voice") with
- an AD516 and converted to 8svx IFFs.
-
- Sample upd.IDs and some scripts ideas included.

-
- Lynn Chandler was my fiance. She died of cancer in July 1995.
- In June 1994 after six months of radiation she was scheduled
- for extremely dangerous surgery to attempt to remove the cancer.
- Her surgeons estimated that she had a 25 to 50 percent chance
- of dying during the procedure.
-
- The morning of her surgery I asked he to make a little present
- for me with the AD516 DSP board and Studio 16 software on our
- Amiga. I wrote up some phrases for her to record that fairly
- well correspond to the events handled by Arq/UPD plus a few other
- things.
-
- She was a model and actress and had a very lovely professional
- radio voice, though she thought it was a little too squeaky.
- She was always a perfectionist and in some instances she recorded
- a few different versions of the samples with different inflections.
- She made one mistake in the middle of one of the long samples and
- made a comment at that point, and I left both of those samples in
- the archive. (LC_IMoper4.8svx and LC_ScratchThat.8svx) Though, I
- did not include a personal message she made for me, but I don't
- think anyone else would find any meaning in being told, "I love
- you, Kenny" by her.
-
- Unfortunately, she had the microphone too close to the Amiga and
- the whine of the A2000 fan is audible in the background. Also,
- in some places the head thrashing on the quantum 425M drive can
- be heard as it records the audio.
-
- ==========================================================================
-
- Please see the Arq/UPD documentation for how to properly install
- and configure those software utilities.
-
- The upd.IDs file is copied from my actual file in the S: directory
- as an example to show you how the samples are used.
-
- There are some additional events (CLI_OPEN and DIAG_LC) that are
- not part of the Arq IDs. Triggering them is fairly simple. You
- can use an AmigaDOS script or a shell command alias to play them
- with UPD. Just execute the commands:
-
- run >NIL: rx "address 'PLAY' id CLI_OPEN"
-
- and
-
- run >NIL: rx "address 'PLAY' id DIAG_LC"
-
- I use scripts for both. I use CLI_OPEN after a new shell window
- opens. I use DIAG_LC when the Amiga is finished booting--it's the
- now familiar and often sampled phrase said by the HAL computer in
- the movie 2001.
