  6. A set of samples ideally suited for UPD/Arq recorded by my
  7. fiance (using her professionally tuned "radio voice") with
  8. an AD516 and converted to 8svx IFFs.

  14. Lynn Chandler was my fiance.  She died of cancer in July 1995.
  15. In June 1994 after six months of radiation she was scheduled
  16. for extremely dangerous surgery to attempt to remove the cancer.
  17. Her surgeons estimated that she had a 25 to 50 percent chance 
  18. of dying during the procedure.

  20. The morning of her surgery I asked he to make a little present 
  21. for me with the AD516 DSP board and Studio 16 software on our 
  22. Amiga.  I wrote up some phrases for her to record that fairly 
  23. well correspond to the events handled by Arq/UPD plus a few other 
  24. things.

  26. She was a model and actress and had a very lovely professional
  27. radio voice, though she thought it was a little too squeaky. 
  28. She was always a perfectionist and in some instances she recorded 
  29. a few different versions of the samples with different inflections.
  30. She made one mistake in the middle of one of the long samples and
  31. made a comment at that point, and I left both of those samples in
  32. the archive. (LC_IMoper4.8svx and LC_ScratchThat.8svx)  Though, I 
  33. did not include a personal message she made for me, but I don't
  34. think anyone else would find any meaning in being told, "I love
  35. you, Kenny" by her.

  37. Unfortunately, she had the microphone too close to the Amiga and
  38. the whine of the A2000 fan is audible in the background.  Also, 
  39. in some places the head thrashing on the quantum 425M drive can
  40. be heard as it records the audio.

  47. The upd.IDs file is copied from my actual file in the S: directory
  48. as an example to show you how the samples are used.
  49.  
  50. There are some additional events (CLI_OPEN and DIAG_LC) that are
  51. not part of the Arq IDs.  Triggering them is fairly simple.  You
  52. can use an AmigaDOS script or a shell command alias to play them
  53. with UPD.  Just execute the commands:
  54.  
  55.     run >NIL: rx "address 'PLAY' id CLI_OPEN"
  56.  
  57.         and
  58.  
  59.     run >NIL: rx "address 'PLAY' id DIAG_LC"
  60.  
  61. I use scripts for both.  I use CLI_OPEN after a new shell window 
  62. opens. I use DIAG_LC when the Amiga is finished booting--it's the 
  63. now familiar and often sampled phrase said by the HAL computer in 
  64. the movie 2001.
