  1. COMP.SYS.AMIGA.REVIEWS ARCHIVES

  6.     Welcome to the comp.sys.amiga.reviews archives at math.uh.edu!  In
  7. these archives, you will find several hundred reviews of products related to
  8. the Commodore Amiga computer, written by volunteers around the world.
  9.  
  10.     These archives are maintained by Daniel Barrett, the moderator of
  11. the USENET newsgroup comp.sys.amiga.reviews.  (See addresses at the bottom
  12. of this file.)  The archives were reorganized in November 1993, so things
  13. may look a little different if you have used them before.
  14.  
  15.     Every directory in these archives contains a file called "00-README"
  16. which explains the contents of that directory.  (Note that this filename
  17. begins with two ZEROES, not the capital letter 'O'.  This is done so this
  18. filename is always the first one displayed in any directory.)

  20.     This main directory contains:

  22.     00-README    This file.
  23.     README        A copy of the 00-README file.
  24.  
  25.     Index        An index of all reviewed products and
  26.             administrative documents.
  27.  
  28.     hardware    Directory containing hardware reviews.
  29.     software    Directory containing software reviews.
  30.     other-reviews    Directory containing other reviews (books, shows,
  31.             vendors, etc.).
  32.  
  33.     all        A directory containing copies of ALL reviews from the
  34.             hardware, software, and other-reviews directories.
  35.             If you know the names of all the review files you
  36.             want, you can download them conveniently from this
  37.             directory instead of searching through the
  38.             "hardware", "software" and "other-reviews"
  39.             directories.
  40.  
  41.     doc        Directory containing administrative documents, such
  42.             as the "Introduction" article, review writer
  43.             guidelines, group charter, etc.
  44.     new        Directory containing lists of new files this month.
  45.     priv        Private directory.
  46.  
  47.     reviews.tar.gz    A single, compressed file containing the entire
  48.             review archive, minus the "new", "priv", and "all"
  49.             directories.  This file is in UNIX tar format,
  50.             compressed with GNU Zip.  It is primarily for Fred
  51.             Fish and others who wish to download the entire
  52.             archive from time to time.  This file is updated
  53.             once per day.

  55.             To unarchive this file, "cd" to the destination
  56.             directory and type:

  58.                 gunzip reviews.tar.gz | tar xvf -
  59.  
  60.     All files are plain text with no compression.
  61.  
  62.     IMPORTANT:  Please remember that the review archives began long ago,
  63. so a review might not represent the current version or state of the
  64. product.  It is even possible that the product may not be available any more.
  65. So PLEASE look at the REVIEW DATE, and the PRODUCT VERSION NUMBER, to see
  66. how current the review is.
