As the months went by all of us became more proficient at controling
our body shapes. Twice more snipers came to the rance and twice more
they died.  Toni got nicked but not seriously. I was sure that they

and the animals these people were fighting were not behaving as
animals, were not stopping to eat their kills and were working in
consort. The bottom floor was cleared in five minutes with only five
or six shots fired. I was grazed but the others were unhurt.

There was a lot of scrambling around on the second floor accompanied
by histerical screaming. I sent the wolf and Tiger up the back
stairs, while I went up the front.  I confronted the woman and stared
at her. She sank to the floor sobbing. I rousted her up with my nose
and headed her for her bedroom. I could see the two female children
being pressed there by the wolf and the tiger.  There was a male
child with them, The female I was coraling screamed when she saw the
kids and their captors and sunk to the floor again. I mouthed her arm

them shut before she moved as quickly as I wanted. We found her

The she wolf and tiger held the parents at bay on their bed as I

not going to get an explanation either.  But that was OK, he would
come up with something and he had warned them to leave us alone

The capo was only hospitalized for a few days, but within the week he
was found shot in the street of a large nearby city. We assumed that
his "business aquiantences" had gotten upset at his failure and that
failure's expense. No one saw anything.

A month later a Cadillac Limosene had pulled up by Sam's place. The
older woman and the three children wanted Samantha to teach them. We
accepted them as students. The chances of their discovering anything
were pretty small.

The mother's name was Anna. She was really the step-mother of the
children, The oldest girl was Katelyn, she was seventeen and was the
sister I had taken as a Black Leopard. She seemed none the worse for
