  20. |   This 'CHECKOUT' BBS distributes software for the sole purpose           |
  21. | of testing prior to purchase.  You've 24 hours to try the software        |
  22. | and determine that it is worth  purchasing, then you must  destroy        |
  23. | it.   The  BBS Sysop feels  that it is  unfair to  computer  users        |
  24. | that they are unable to evaluate software to see if it suits their        |
  25. | needs.  Many  users have purchased products by the way the program        |
  26. | 'looks' on the box and have been extremely disappointed - and have        |
  27. | therefore wasted their money and (more important) time.  Nobody in        |
  28. | their right  mind would purchase a  car  without  test  driving it        |
  29. | first,  or  for  that  matter...purchase  clothes  without  trying        |
  30. | them  on, so how  can  software  vendors  expect users to  buy one        |
  31. | of their products without first testing it?  They will send copies        |
  32. | of their software to large corporations to test but seem to forget        |
  33. | there are also other users in the market willing to purchase their        |
  34. | product if it meets their needs.   This is where this checkout BBS        |
  35. | comes in.   This program is for evaluation only,  if you like this        |
  36. | product  then  go  to  your  local computer store and purchase it,        |
  37. | otherwise PLEASE do not USE or in anyway DISTRIBUTE this  product!        |
  38. | There are many advantages to purchasing this product including:           |
  39. |                                                                           |
  40. |   1) Technical Support: Software vendors set  up  technical  support      |
  41. |    lines  for  the  purpose  of  helping  their                           |
  42. |    registered users get the  most  out  of  the                           |
  43. |    product and help with any bug concerns, etc.                           |
  44. |    It is to your advantage to be  able  to  use                           |
  45. |    this (and the many features of the program).                           |
  46. |                                                                           |
  47. |   2) Manuals:           Manuals are  a  very  important  part  of  a      |
  48. |    software package.  No book  or text file can                           |
  49. |    replace the  original  manuals,  which  come                           |
  50. |    with the product. This enables  the  user to                           |
  51. |    get the most out of the package,  especially                           |
  52. |    with the very complex programs of today.                               |
  53. |                                                                           |
  54. |   3) Upgrades:          With  buying  the  original program, you are      |
  55. |    entitled  to  low priced or free upgrades to                           |
  56. |    new versions, bug fixes, and 'enhancements'.                           |
  57. |   4) Legality:          Using a program  withou |t owning a registered    |
  58. |    copy is illegal.                                                       |
  59. |   5) Control Of The     When  companies  who  create  good  products      |
  60. |    Industry:          are  supported,  it  reinforces the need for        |
  61. |        good products and helps the company continue                       |
  62. |    to create more  quality  products.   On  the                           |
  63. |    other hand, companies who create substandard                           |
  64. |    products have  two  options; either  improve                           |
  65. |    their products or get out of the industry.                             |
  66. |                                                                           |
  67. |   Until  companies come up with a better  way  of  allowing  users  to    |
  68. | test their products before purchasing, 'checkout' BBSs will continue      |
  69. | to make available products  for  your  testing.  Companies  recently      |
  70. | have started to head in this  direction and you can now return  some      |
  71. | products  to  the  company  if  you  are  not  completely  satisfied      |
  72. | (Norton, and a few others), but this does not remedy  the  situation      |
  73. | as the refund/credit takes a long time to get processed and is a BIG      |
  74. | hassle!   We feel that under the current software industry standards      |
  75. | of doing business, that evaluating software releases prior to actual      |
  76. | purchase is still the best solution.                                      |

  88. | chose to transfer their right and registration to the product to This     |

  92. | Since the uploader had transfered the software, and all the rights        |
  93. | of the software, to the BBS, he chooses them to be made available         |
  94. | as demos, to be distributed to those under the intention of fully         |
  95. | purchasing the software, or simply to use as a preview only to be         |
  96. | disliked, and therefore removed.                                          |
