  7. doc since it contains information that hasn't before been released. This
  8. is the only doc that has ever been written with all relevant information
  9. and also all information correct.

  13. LAME QUESTIONS-----------------------------------------------------------
  14.   If you don't understand the docs you should consult your computers
  15.   manual since questions about resident, quotes and such basic things
  16.   just makes me really unwilling to have you in the charts. And maybe
  17.   you shouldn't run a board either.
  18.  
  19. FIRST--------------------------------------------------------------------
  20.   Never mix major version numbers of the different DC utils, none of them
  21.   are or will be backwards compatible. If you have any DC program with a
  22.   version below 3 it should'nt be used since it will in some cases render
  23.   your statfile useless.

  25. OVERVIEW-----------------------------------------------------------------
  26.   DC_Init is a utility that you should run from your logoff script. Or
  27.   if you use a cron utility already you can use them together. Do however
  28.   you like, but DC_Init will only create a file on the first day of the
  29.   month so if you don't run it then, then you're not in the charts. The
  30.   reason behind this is that we want to get all stats simultaneously and
  31.   also for speed when launched after every call.
  32.   If you put DC_Init in your logoff script, you should make it resident
  33.   since the loadtimes are tremendous in comparison to the runtime which
  34.   is typically one tick when the date is wrong.
  35.   If you want to test it you can always change the system clock.

  37. HOW TO RUN---------------------------------------------------------------
  38.   Syntax: DC_Init <X|S|T> <store> <user.data> <sysop> <board> <Y|N>
  39.   <X|S|T>     X = /X, S = S!X, T = Tempest
  40.   <store>     Where all DreamChart files are kept/created, must end with
  41.               either a trailing / or :
  42.   <user.data> Full path to your user.data or accounts.data
  43.   <sysop>     Your handle        (max 30 chars)
  44.   <board>     Name of your board ----- "" -----
  45.   <Y|N>       If you count credits by kb instead of bytes set to Y.

  47.   e.g. like this:

  50.   Use quotes where necessary.

  52. WHAT IT DOES-------------------------------------------------------------
  53.   The file created will be called "DC_<mmm><yy>", e.g. "DC_Dec94". Stored
  54.   in this file will be your hardware status, parts of user.data, and also
  55.   the files from the support modules, if any.

  57. DC_COLLECT---------------------------------------------------------------
  58.   DC_Collect is a /X door used for downloading the statfile.
  59.   If <store> isn't the same path as the main bbs path you must set an
  60.   environment variable called 'DreamChart_Store' to the same as <store>.
  61.   i.e "setenv envarc:DreamChart_Store my_drive:mydir/".
  62.   It uses minimum stack and requires AEDoor.library v2.2 by SiNTAX/WøT.

  64. HOW TO UPGRADE-----------------------------------------------------------
  65.   Upgrading from v1.x:
  66.     DC_Init in utils:        replace with DC_Init v3.x
  67.     DC_Collect in doors:     delete or replace with DC_Collect v3.x
  68.     Logoff-scripts           Insert the parameters needed
  69.  
  70.   Upgrading from v2.x:
  71.     Simply replace dc_init with v3.x and also install the collect door if
  72.     you believe someone is going to collect your file.
  73.  
  74.   All statfiles generated with v1.x - v2.x are considered useless now.
  75.   If you don't install v3.x you're not in the chart, simple as that.

  77. HISTORY------------------------------------------------------------------
  78.   v1.0 -> v2.x      obsolete and useless.

  80.   v3.0 (7.12.94)
  81.   The statfile has changed, thereby supporting upto 8 external modules
  82.   including the coming modules DC_Vote, DC_Speed and DC_Group. This
  83.   version must be installed even if you don't have any of the above
  84.   mentioned modules.
  85.   This is also the only version that supports accounts with 2 Gb+.

  87. FUTURE-------------------------------------------------------------------
  88.   DC_Init:
  89.     Yes, I know that there have been too many releases of DC_Init but now
  90.     I don't beleive that any further updates of DC_Init will be needed.
  91.   DC_Collect:
  92.     It just sends the file and nothing else, will never be updated again.
  93.   DC_Speed, DC_Group, DC_Vote and others:
  94.     These will come....due to lack of time I can't say when.
  95.   DC_Analyze:
  96.     This is the program that actually generates the chart and it needs to
  97.     be rewritten almost from scratch in december. Due to the complexity
  98.     of this program I'm not sure if I'll have time for anything else.

  101. READ----------REALLY READ THE INFORMATION BELOW--------------------------

  103.   If we have the time to collect the file, we might do it. However wise
  104.   of the first collectings, it's unlikely that someone will collect your
  105.   file unless you're running a hispeed multinode system. That is however
  106.   not a guarantee since we did forget boards it the first issue.
  107.   The only way to be certain of inclusion is to call my board and upload
  108.   the file no later than the 5th. See below how to do it in 30 seks.

  110. Teçhniçal Ðistørtiøn-----------------------------------------------------
  111.   If you call Teçhniçal Ðistørtiøn at +46-35-130003/119944 you can logon
  112.   as "DREAMCHART" with password "DC". Doing this you immediately enter a
  113.   door where you can get the latest version of DC_Init and other related
  114.   modules, in addition you can leave feedback and upload your statfile.
  115.   This is the most secure way to leave the statfile since the guide is
  116.   generated here.
