  8. This series of stories covers  the  voyages of the starship Vanguard.
  9. They are set in the 24th  century  and  so are in the TNG/DS9/VOYAGER
  10. timeline. The crew are not quite  the same as the seemingly faultless
  11. Next Generation cast and are in  some  respects more in the DS9 mold.
  12. The information below was acurate in the year 2370 (TNG season 7).

  14. USS VANGUARD NCC 47201 - Excelsior class
  15. ----------------------------------------
  16.  
  17. The vessel of the series. An immense history behind her and has taken
  18. part in almost every significant  event since the Khitomer conference
  19. (ST:VI). Built shortly after the Enterprise-B she serves Starfleet in
  20. the same role as she did nearly eighty years ago.
  21.  
  22. Captain Jonathan Warner
  23. -----------------------

  25. Commanding officer of the Vanguard. A human with over twenty years of
  26. service in the fleet. He  has  been  in  command  of the ship for two
  27. years but is beginning to  have  doubts  as  to  the direction of his
  28. career. He was once married,  but  his  wife  died and he hasn't felt
  29. comfortable around women when they aren't  on  duty. He is also aware
  30. that Starfleet intends his tenure  as  captain  of the Vanguard to be
  31. the ship's last before retirement.

  33. Commander Lyrinda Halk
  34. ----------------------

  36. Human executive officer of the ship. She was once captain of the deep
  37. space vessel Marco Polo but an  event  occured in 2368 which involved
  38. her demotion to commander  and  the  scrapping  of  her  ship. She is
  39. certainly bitter about the experience and  the way that Starfleet has
  40. treated her. There may be some  resentment towards her new commanding
  41. officer, whether she acts on it or  not  has  yet to be seen. She has
  42. had a romantic history with  her  childhood friend William Riker from
  43. their hometown in Alaska.
  44.  
  45. Lieutenant Commander Karma
  46. --------------------------
  47.  
  48. Head of ship's operations and also  the  third in command. Karma is a
  49. Farenoid and is  only  a  foot  high.  This,  coupled  with her elfin
  50. features and inate telekenetic ability has given her nickname of 'The
  51. Fairy'. She certainly resents this and  also has a fiery temper. Were
  52. it not for her almost  unbelievibly  versitile  mind  and ease in the
  53. field of science she would not have graduated from the academy. Karma
  54. is the last of her  race  as  the  normally xenophobic Farenoids were
  55. made extinct when their sun went nova and vapourised their homeworld.

  57. Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Commander Li Levitt
  58. -----------------------------------------------------

  60. Once a doctor in the  Bajoran  underground,  he joined Starfleet at a
  61. late age. From the same  class  as  Captain  Warner, the two are firm
  62. friends. Lacking  the  bedside  manner  of  Beverly  Crusher  and the
  63. youthful enthusiasm of Julian  Bashir,  Li  can  sometimes be seen as
  64. heartless. His friends know  differently  though.  This does not stop
  65. him alienating  people,  notably  Karma,  although  she  has  her own
  66. reasons.

  68. Counselor, Lieutenant Natasha Reboxski
  69. --------------------------------------
  70.  
  71. Being Human, she feels she has  less  to offer her captain than other
  72. counselors do with empathic or  telepathic  abilities. She has little
  73. to do aboard  the  ship  as  there  are  few  families  in  the harsh
  74. environment. The  Russian  finds  it  hard  to  communicate  with the
  75. command crew as  many  of  them  have  dark  pasts  they would rather
  76. forget. Instead she repeatedly finds  herself  off the ship attending
  77. conferences  and  seminars  at   various   locations  throughout  the
  78. Federation.
  79.  
  80. Chief of Security, Lieutenant Macha Hermandez
  81. ---------------------------------------------

  83. Hispanic tactical  officer.  Friendly  to  those  she  knows,  highly
  84. suspicious of those she  doesn't,  Macha  makes an excellent security
  85. officer. Loyal to her captain, yet  wary of strangers. Definately not
  86. command material as she usually  forgets  her responsibilities in the
  87. heat of battle. She has noticed Lieutenant Dean's interest in her and
  88. is unsure how serious he is. For  all her outward bravado she is very
  89. vunerable to her feminine emotions.
  90.  
  91. Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Gart
  92. -------------------------------

  94. A Tellarite with a sense of  humour,  a rare thing indeed. Stout both
  95. phisically and mentally, he is fond of  both his food and drink. Gart
  96. is only at peace with  his  engines.  Naturally prefers Warner not to
  97. burn out the nacelles too  often,  Gart still loves repairing things.
  98. He is also an opportunist and will turn anything to his advataage. In
  99. some ways he could be an fat, hairy Ferengi.
  100.  
  101. Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Robert Dean
  102. -------------------------------------
  103.  
  104. Young, observant and definatly a  ladies  man. Dean initally imagined
  105. his assignment as the Vanguard's  helmsman  as  a chance to stay with
  106. the opposite sex in an enclosed  environment. Rapidly brought down to
  107. earth by Commander Halk, he respects all of the command crew and sees
  108. the women as senior officers and so  well out of his leauge. Secretly
  109. thinks he may be in  with  a  chance  with  Hermandez although she is
  110. uneasy about him.
