- The mouse or trackball is usually
- associated with an arrow or small
- rectangular block on the screen.
- This is called a "cursor." Moving
- the cursor is easy, especially
- after some practice.
- With IBM-compatible computers
- most mice and trackballs have two
- or three buttons. The left one is
- the most often used button. In
- fact some programs use only the
- left button. To make a selection
- with a mouse or trackball, move
- the cursor to the desired item,
- then tap the left button. Many
- programs require that you tap
- twice in rapid succession. This
- is called "double-clicking."

- Another often used technique
- is dragging. To drag, point to
- the item you want to move or
- resize, then hold the left button
- down while moving the mouse or
- trackball.
- The function of the right
- button varies with different
- programs.
- Modern programs never require
- that you have three buttons, but
- some programs offer optional ways
- in which to use the center button
- if you have one.
