- THE SEA BATTLE
-
-
- This is a world-wide known game played often by both adults
- and children on sheets of checked paper. Now the Mighty Computer
- challenges you on the rectangular sea-scopes of MS-Windows.
- In the beginning of the game you have a fleet at your
- command. You are to arrange your ships in battle order and
- fight the Computer's squadron. The only means at your disposal
- are your personal talent and courage and a mouse-driven Ship Gun.
-
- RULES OF THE GAME
-
- 1. The ships in this game consist of square modules. When an
- enemy shell penetrates the ship module it catches fire and
- this ship is assumed "wounded". When all the modules of the ship
- are hit the ship is gone.
- 2. When constructing a vessel you must place subsequent module
- close to the previous. Computer will show you allowed checks as
- empty. If Linear Option is on, the only possible vessel shape is
- line. Otherwise you may construct a ship of your own design.
- 3. You have an advantage of first shot. If the shot is successful
- (i.e. the enemy ship is hit) you get the right to one more shot,
- otherwise the turn goes to your opponent.
- 4. The game ends when one of players loses his last ship.
-
- ARRANGING YOUR FLEET
-
- First, start a New Game from the Game menu. You will see two
- game fields and an Arranging dialog box. In this box the current
- ship is shown and the current module is highlighted. Use your
- Mouse to build the fleet on the left field, which is yours.
- Computer marks free checks making cross cursor. After the
- foundation of the ship (use left button) next possible positions
- are shown as empty checks. When the last block is placed
- Computer will mark all the adjacent checks where ships can't be
- placed and shows the next ship in a dialog box. When the last
- ship is ready, dialog box disappears.
- You may Reset current ship if you dislike it. Use Auto to
- ask a Computer to arrange your ships or Cancel to abort
- arranging.
-
- SHOOTING
-
- Simply click left button on the selected check. Fire means
- the ship is wounded, cross - it is gone. Note Rule No.3.
-
- STATISTICS
-
- Two permanent dialog boxes represent statistics of the
- battle. They contain information about fleet complement, shots
- done and accuracy of shooting in percent.
-
- RESULTS
-
- If you have managed to overcome your PC then you have a
- chance to record your result in the table of best results. The only
- important parameter is victory game time.
-
- OPTIONS
-
- 1. Level.
- There are three levels in this game: Novice, Advanced and
- Expert. Difference lies in the game field size - it is only
- 7-by-7 for Novice level, 10-by-10 for Advanced and 14-by-14 for
- Expert. The maximal ship size also varies from 3 to 5.
-
- 2. Ship Organization.
- Check "Linear" if you prefer your ships configures in a straight lines,
- or, in default, you may arrange your ships as you see fit, giving you an
- opportunity to implement your fantasy battlefield.
