- | Weird User Interface |
- | -------------------- |
- | |
- | To close Netris, either: |
- | Hold down Alt and press F4 |
- | or double-click the 'X' button at |
- | top-left of the window |
- | |
- | In some cases there may be a delay |
- | in closing, during which the system |
- | will seem to hang. You just have to |
- | wait a while. |
- | |
- ------------------------------------+
-
- +------------------------------------
- | System Requirements |
- | ------------------- |
- | |
- | To run Netris, you need: |
- | Windows 3.1 (or later) |
- | A mouse |
- | A 386 or above (the game should |
- | run on 286s but not well) |
- | At least 16-colour VGA graphics |
- | |
- | The game also supports: |
- | MCI-compliant sound card with |
- | its driver installed in Control |
- | Panel (both MIDI and WAV) |
- | 256 colour and 24-bit graphics |
- | |
- | HiColor (32k or 64k colour) is not |
- | fully supported - see later. |
- ------------------------------------+
-
- +------------------------------------
- | Installing Netris |
- | ----------------- |
- | |
- | Follow these steps, or it won't be |
- | configured correctly... |
- | |
- | * Make a directory, e.g. C:\NETRIS |
- | (use DOS or File Manager) |
- | * Copy all the Netris files into |
- | it, including any optional extras |
- | like sound effects |
- | * Copy the netris.ini file that's |
- | supplied into the C:\WINDOWS |
- | directory |
- | * From Program Manager, choose |
- | File/New, Program Item, then |
- | choose Browse and find netris.exe |
- | in C:\NETRIS, then click OK. |
- | |
- | * If this program is on a CD-ROM |
- | disk, you can run it direct as |
- | long as all the files are in the |
- | same directory, but you will |
- | still need to copy the .INI or |
- | the sound and graphics files will |
- | not be configured in. |
- | |
- ------------------------------------+
-
- +-----------------------------------
- | Netris 2-Player Mode |
- | -------------------- |
- | |
- | 2-Player mode still has the slight |
- | problem mentioned in the Help file. |
- | See the on-line help (click the |
- | yellow ? button) from Netris. |
- | |
- ------------------------------------+
-
- +-----------------------------------
- | HiColor video cards |
- | ------------------- |
- | |
- | If you use one of these, Netris |
- | will not work correctly. I think |
- | it will run but fail to palettize |
- | the 256-colour graphics properly |
- | (they will be the wrong colours). |
- | If so, you should use the Graphics |
- | dialog box to change all background |
- | file names to blanks or nonexistant |
- | files, and make do with background |
- | colour only. |
- | |
- | The initial screen (with the play |
- | button) may not display its |
- | background: to see what the buttons |
- | do, use the help file, selecting |
- | the `main screen' topic, to get a |
- | picture of this screen. |
- | |
- | This is also covered in the help |
- | file. |
- | |
- | I'm sorry about this, but I have |
- | only very occasional access to a |
- | machine with >256 colours, so I |
- | had to code both 24-bit and |
- | HiColor blind. 24-bit seems to |
- | work - HiColor doesn't. My |
- | apologies to those of you affected. |
- | |
- ------------------------------------+
-
- +-----------------------------------
- | Common Dialog Boxes |
- | ------------------- |
- | |
- | Common dialog boxes are displayed |
- | so you can browse for graphics, |
- | sound, and music files. When you |
- | have chosen your file, do not |
- | double-click it to close the dialog |
- | as this will result in the dialog |
- | staying visible and looking messy. |
- | Instead, click it once to select it |
- | and then use the OK button. (This |
- | is an irritating bug; sorry). |
- | |
- | If you forget this, it doesn't |
- | actually matter, but screen display |
- | may be ugly as the dialog doesn't |
- | clear itself |
- | |
