  16. WinSpell is a Windows based spelling supervisor which can check
  17. your spelling three different ways.
  18.  
  19.     1) WinSpell acts in real-time, as you type.  While typing,
  20.        WinSpell will notify you as soon as you misspell a word.
  21.  
  22.     2) WinSpell spell checks files such as Windows Write files and
  23.        ASCII text files (Windows Notepad, etc.).
  24.  
  25.     3) WinSpell checks the spelling of information copied to the
  26.        Clipboard, including spreadsheet, database, and word processor
  27.        files.
  28.  
  29. These three modes of WinSpell allow you to check your spelling in
  30. virtually any Windows application, including DOS based applications
  31. running in a window, spreadsheets, telecommunication packages, etc.
  32.  
  33. WinSpell does not currently perform real-time monitoring of typing in 
  34. DOS applications running on an 80386 machine.  To check spelling in 
  35. these applications, the information must be copied to the clipboard and
  36. then checked via the Clipboard check option.
  37.

  41. VERY IMPORTANT:  Old Versions 1.00 and .95
  42. The index files (full.ndx) are incompatible with older versions.
  43. Also note that the asc2dct.exe utility now automatically
  44. generates the index file.  WinSpell will simply complain of
  45. the index file does not exist and expect you to use asc2dct.exe
  46. to create it.  See the Documentation in WINSPELL.WRI for more
  47. details.

  49. VERY IMPORTANT:  NEW DYNAMIC LINK LIBRARY
  50. WinSpell uses WINSPDLL.DLL as its dynamic link library now.
  51. HOOK.DLL is no longer used or compatible.
  52.  
  53. VERY IMPORTANT OPTION:  Use Memory
  54. WinSpell has the ability to run faster by setting the Use Memory
  55. option in the Settings... Dialog box.  This option defaults to
  56. off upon first running WinSpell.  See the Documentation in
  57. WINSPELL.WRI for more details.

  59. VERY IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTES:
  60. Delete the old versions of WinSpell completely.  They are no
  61. longer useful as Version 1.05 is not backward compatible with
  62. index files.  If you have dictionary files you still want to
  63. use, execute the DCT2ASC and ASC2DCT utilities.  See the
  64. documentation in WINSPELL.WRI for details.

  66. WinSpell is ShareWare and as such, you have certain obligations to
  67. register WinSpell if you use it past the initial evaluation period.

  71. In order to install this evaluation version:

  73.   1)  Expand the (compressed) archive file:
  74.  
  75.          pkunzip winspell
  76.  
  77.   2)  Run the Installation script (batch file) from floppy:
  78.  
  79.          install [drive:]path
  80.  
  81.       where drive represents the hard disk on which WinSpell should
  82.       be installed and path represents the directory in which WinSpell
  83.       should be placed.
  84.  
  85.       Note that if you expand the archive file to your hard disk, your
  86.       installation is essentially complete.  You need not run the
  87.       INSTALL.BAT script.  Simply add the directory in which you
  88.       placed WinSpell to your DOS PATH.  See your DOS manual for details
  89.       on the PATH environmental variable.

  91.   3)  Follow remaining instructions as specified by the installation
  92.       script.

  94. The following is an explanation for each file:
  95.  
  96.     WINSPELL.EXE - WinSpell's main executable.  This is the file that
  97.                    you will want to add to your program manager in
  98.                    Windows, or have Windows load via the "load=" option
  99.                    in WIN.INI.

  101.                    WINSPELL.EXE is required for proper operation.
  102.  
  103.     WINSPDLL.DLL - WinSpell's dynamic link library.

  153.      Besides correcting several reported bugs, the GUESS lookup has been 
  154.      SIGNIFICANTLY enhanced.  It is now 500 to 1000 times faster than in
  155.      release 1.00.  Lookups for almost all guesses are now essentially 
  156.      instant, even on 80286 boxes.

  159.      enhancements and fixes from the initial ShareWare release:
  160.           1) Fixed read errors while file/clipboard checking and typing

  180.      Known bugs remaining:
  181.           1) Bitmap and Metafile pictures in files and the clipboard
  182.              sometimes confuse WinSpell.  WinSpell just stops checking
  183.              the text before completion and comes back as if it
  184.              finished.  Workaround:  Use the clipboard to transfer
  185.              just the text, then let WinSpell check that.
