  4. PACKAGE CONTENTS:
  5.      The following is a list of  the files that should be in this
  6.      package, along with a brief description of what each one is.
  7.           o    README.WRI          Windows Write File.
  8.           o    README.TXT          ASCII text file.
  9.           o    WIN_PHON.DAT   Template data file.
  10.           o    WIN_PHON.EXE   The executable.
  11.           o    WIN_PHON.HLP   The help file.
  12.           o    WIN_PHON.INI        Template initialization file.
  13. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  14.      I.   NOTE:  Use these instruction when setting this program up
  15.           in Windows« version 3.1.  Windows 3.0 setup is different
  16.           for step V.- E.
  17.      II.  Make a directory ( skip this step of a directory exists
  18.           that you want to copy these files into).
  19.      III. Copy the above listed files into the desired directory.
  20.      IV.  Copy or move "win_phon.ini" into the directory that Windows
  21.           is installed in.
  22.      V.   Add the application to a group in Windows.
  23.           A.   Click left mouse button in group window that win_phon
  24.                is to be installed into.
  25.           B.   Select "File" menu from the "Program Manager" window.
  26.           C.   Select "New" from the "File Menu".
  27.           D.   Make sure the radio button for "Program Item" is
  28.                selected.
  29.           E.   Fill out the "Program Item Properties" dialog box.
  30.                1.                  Description:   Name that is to be
  31.                                    seen under the icon (e.g.
  32.                                    win_phon).
  33.                2.                  Command Line:  Directory path and
  34.                                    name of executable (e.g.
  35.                                    c:\winapps\win_phon\win_phon.exe).
  36.                3.                  Working Directory:  Path to the
  37.                                    directory that contains the
  38.                                    executable (e.g.
  39.                                    c:\winapps\win_phon).
  40.                4.                  Shortcut Key:  Enter "None."
  41.                5.                  Click the "OK" button.
  42.      VI.  At this point there should be an icon with a phone and open
  43.           book in the window that was selected in step one.
  44.      VII. To have this application load automatically when Windows is
  45.           invoked put the path name and executable on the "load="
  46.           line in the "win.ini" file (e.g.
  47.           load=c:\winapps\win_phon\win_phon.exe).
  48. FILE DESCRIPTION:
  49.      I.   CAUTIONS:
  50.           A.   The names to the left of the equal sign must remain
  51.                the same.
  52.           B.   The names on the right side of the equal sign are the
  53.                ones the user wants to see for each text box title.
  54.           C.   The first 14 characters to the right of the equal sign
  55.                will be used for each of the text field titles.
  56.           D.   The title can be up to 32 characters in length.
  57.      II.            WIN_PHON.INI   This file contains the following
  58.                     data lines:
  59.           A.             [WIN_PHON]     This is the first line of the
  60.                          ".ini" file, it must always be there,
  61.                          otherwise the desired changes would not be
  62.                          read from this file.
  63.           B.   fldname1=F Name:    "fldname1" is the variable name of
  64.                the first (top) data field.  The value after the equal
  65.                sign is what the user wants to see as the name of the
  66.                first data field.
  67.           C.   fldname2=L Name:    "fldname2" is the variable name of
  68.                the second data field.  The value after the equal sign
  69.                is what the user wants to see as the name of the
  70.                second data field.
  71.           D.   fldname3=Phone No:  "fldname3" is the variable name of
  72.                the third data field.  The value after the equal sign
  73.                is what the user wants to see as the name of the third
  74.                data field.
  75.           E.   fldname4=Ext No:    "fldname4" is the variable name of
  76.                the forth data field.  The value after the equal sign
  77.                is what the user wants to see as the name of the forth
  78.                data field.
  79.           F.   fldname5=FAX No:    "fldname5" is the variable name of
  80.                the fifth data field.  The value after the equal sign
  81.                is what the user wants to see as the name of the fifth
  82.                data field.
  83.           G.   fldname6=Company:   "fldname6" is the variable name of
  84.                the sixth (bottom) data field.  The value after the
  85.                equal sign is what the user wants to see as the name
  86.                of the sixth data field.
  87.           H.   Title=My Phone List "Title" is the variable name of
  88.                the title of the dialog box, along with the title name
  89.                that will appear when the application is iconified.
  90.                The value after the equal sign is the name the user
  91.                wants to see for the title of the application.
  92. USAGE:
  93.      I.   Click the left mouse key in any of the text boxes.
  94.      II.  Enter a single character or string of text to search for.
  95.      III. Hit the "Enter" or "Return" key on the keyboard, or click
  96.           the left mouse button on the "OK" button.  This begins the
  97.           search through the database for a match.
  98. CONTROL DESCRIPTION:
  99.      I.             OK   This button is active when the user has
  100.                     clicked the cursor in one of the text boxes and
  101.                     has entered or changed existing text in that box.
  102.                     When the editing is complete the user can press
  103.                     "Enter" or "Return" on the keyboard, or click the
  104.                     mouse on this button to start the search for a
  105.                     matching text pattern in the database.
  106.      II.            CANCEL    This cancels the application.  It is
  107.                     the same as hitting Alt-F4 on the keyboard.
  108.      III.           HELP This brings up the help window.
  109.      IV.            CLEAR     This clears the data in all of the text
  110.                     fields.
  111.      V.             PREV If you click on the this button the previous
  112.                     match in the database will be displayed.  If the
  113.                     button is gray this indicates the list is at the
  114.                     first match.
  115.      VI.            NEXT If you click on the this button the next
  116.                     match in the database will be displayed.  If the
  117.                     button is gray this indicates the list is at the
  118.                     last match.
  119.      VII.           General   The button with the darker border will
  120.                     accept either having the "spacebar" or the enter
  121.                     key being pressed.
  122. TROUBLESHOOTING:
  123.      CAUTION:  ONLY USE AN ASCII TEXT EDITOR ON THE ".INI" FILE.  If
  124.      the values do not change to the values you entered, make sure
  125.      the ".ini" file is in the windows directory, and that the user
  126.      used an ASCII only editor.  Some editors leave embedded
  127.      characters that cause Windows problems when trying to read the
  128.      ini file.

  130.      There is an ".ini" file the one included allows the names of
  131.      each of the fields to be changed.  The title can also be
  132.      changed.  The ".ini" file needs to be placed in the windows
  133.      directory ( See the example at the end of the features ).

  135.      This program has been through some testing, however not with all
  136.      other Windows programs or combinations of programs.  I claim no
  137.      responsibility for any damage that may be caused while using
  138.      this program.  This program is to be used "AS IS".  If you
  139.      experience any problems while using this program please let me
  140.      know, along with your system parameters; and if you are a
  141.      registered user I will try to fix the problem and send you an
  142.      updated version.
