  3. The following is prepared to address compatibility issues for
  4. WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows users who are upgrading to Windows
  5. 3.1.  Also at issue is a PC Week article (March 23, pg. 8)
  6. concerning compatibility problems between Windows 3.1 and WP 5.1
  7. Win.

  9. ∙    Will WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows run under Windows 3.1?
  10.  
  11.      Yes.  The minor compatibility issues between Windows 3.1 and
  12.      WP 5.1 Win have been addressed by Microsoft through work-
  13.      arounds in Windows 3.1 (see below).  In addition, the
  14.      upcoming interim release of WP 5.1 Win will make the work-
  15.      arounds unnecessary.

  17. ∙    Work-arounds in Windows 3.1
  18.  
  19.      Microsoft has incorporated work-arounds into their WIN.INI
  20.      file to address compatibility issues introduced with Windows
  21.      3.1.  They are listed under the [Compatibility] section in
  22.      the WIN.INI file.  For example, the entries "WIN2WRS=0x1210"
  23.      and "WPWINFIL=0x0006" are listed to resolve minor problems
  24.      Microsoft encountered with WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows.

  27. ∙    Do customers need to change anything in order for
  28.      WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows to run under Windows 3.1?

  30.      No.  The work-arounds are automatically installed with
  31.      Windows 3.1, so customers will never encounter these minor
  32.      incompatibilities unless they delete or edit the applicable
  33.      entries in the [Compatiblity] section of the WIN.INI file. 
  34.      Whether customers are running the shipping version, or the
  35.      upcoming interim of WP 5.1 Win, Windows 3.1 compatibility
  36.      issues are resolved.  Either way, this is transparent to the
  37.      user.

  39. ∙    What should customers do if they run across a problem with
  40.      WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows and Windows 3.1?
  41.      
  42.      Call customer support and explain the problem.  As always,
  43.      WordPerfect Corporation will do its best to resolve all
  44.      customer problems.  The compatibility issues with Windows
  45.      3.1 of which we are aware have been addressed, and we will
  46.      continue to address problems as we are aware of them in the
  47.      future.
