- The file, taskmanr.exe, is provided as a optional replacement for the
- taskman.exe supplied with Micorosoft Windows 3.0.
-
- Microsoft's taskman.exe file is responsible for displaying the Task List
- when you either double-click the screen background, type CTRL-ESC, or
- select the Switch To... menu item.
-
- Command Post's replacement will simply bring up Command Post when any of
- the above actions are taken.
-
- As Command Post has a built-in task list (in the system menu, along with
- the Restore, Maximize, Minimize stuff), many people prefer to use
- Command Post's replacement. (One neat thing about having the task list
- in the system menu is that simply clicking on the Command Post icon will
- bring up the task list.
-
- To replace Microsoft's taskman.exe with the Command Post version...
-
-
- 1) In the Windows directory, rename taskman.exe to taskmang.exe
- 2) Copy taskmanr.exe to the Command Post installation directory...and
- then rename it to taskman.exe.
-
-

-
- It is also possible to make Command Post the primary shell in Windows 3.0
- If you wish to replace the Program Manager completely with Command Post...
-
- 1) In the Windows directory, edit the SYSTEM.INI file.
- 2) Just a few lines down from the top, you will find a line that reads...
-
- shell=progman.exe
-
- 3) Change that line to read...
-
- xshell=progman.exe
-
- 4) And add a new line that looks like
-
- shell=cmdpost.exe
-
- 5) So when you are done, the it looks like
-
- xshell=progman.exe
- shell=cmdpost.exe
-
- You do not *really* need the xshell=progman.exe line, but if on some
- far distant date, you need to use the Program Manager as the shell for
- some obscure reason, then you can edit the SYSTEM.INI file to make it
- look like....
-
- shell=progman.exe
- xshell=cmdpost.exe
-
- 6) Make sure that the directory Command Post is in is mentioned in your
- DOS PATH statement in your autoexec.bat file. If you use Command Post
- as your primary shell, the directory MUST be in your PATH statement.
