  15. The ACCESS.ZIP file contains the following program files:

  17.         ACCESSES.EXE        The main program. The normal version
  18.                             152976 bytes in size whereas the
  19.                             dragdrop version is 153616 bytes.
  20.         ACCESSES.HLP        The help file in Windows
  21.                             HELP format.
  22.         README.TXT          This file.
  23.         VENDOR.TXT          Shareware and Vendor info.
  24.         REGISTER.FRM        Registration Information.
  25.         ARCHIVES.TXT        required reading for Archives
  26.                             users.
  27.         NORTON.TXT          An important note to Norton Desktop
  28.                             users and a caution about Accesses
  29.                             Version 1.0 incompatibility with
  30.                             Norton Desktop.
  31.         CHANGES.TXT         Required reading for previous
  32.                             Accesses version users.

  34. You MUST Place ACCESSES.EXE and ACCESSES.HLP in the same 
  35. directory as the TASKMAN.EXE windows program. You must have 
  36. ACCESSES.HLP installed for the installation to work properly.
  37.  
  38. Accesses creates ACCESSES.INI when Accesses is 1st started if an 
  39. ACCESSES.INI doesn't already exist.  Accesses updates older version
  40. INI files with the new info when each newer version is 1st started.
  41.  
  42. Please read at least until you see the asterisk separator. ie: 
  43. ************ so the INI file is properly setup!
  44.  
  45. REMEMBER TWO IMPORTANT ITEMS FOR ACCESSES:
  46.  
  47. 1.   FILE EXTENSIONS ARE PREFERRED !!!!!
  48.  
  49. 2.   You MUST go thru the TUTOR in ACCESSES.HLP
  50.  
  51. You probably can get by by reading CHANGES.TXT if you have Read
  52. Tutor before.  You must read Tutor if you haven't before!
  53.  
  54. To Norton Desktop USERS:  READ NORTON.TXT and restore the minimized
  55. Norton "child" Windows that can be restored to save their window
  56. positions before starting Accesses.exe for the 1st time.  You can
  57. update any windows anytime later if some of them are closed.
  58.  
  59. Check out the mouse click functions that Accesses has very early 
  60. in your testing procedure! Read TUTOR in ACCESSES.HLP for more...
  61.  
  62. Follow these steps BEFORE LAUNCHING ACCESSES for the 1st time...
  63.  
  64. During the installation process you will automatically be storing 
  65. currently opened window positions to your ACCESSES.INI file.  All
  66. of this can be easily edited by Accesses later but it helps to
  67. do some now.
  68.  
  69. 1.   Make a backup copy of your WIN.INI file and SYSTEM.INI 
  70. files NOW. I do nothing to your WIN.INI file; but hopefully you 
  71. will be prefixing most of your [extensions] section of your 
  72. WIN.INI file using an Accesses extensions update dialog box 
  73. later. I will ask you if I can add taskman.exe=accesses.exe to 
  74. your SYSTEM.INI file during the installation. (This change is not 
  75. required but speeds the Ctrl+Esc key call to Accesses. If you are 
  76. using a remote drive, adding the taskman.exe=accesses.exe line to 
  77. your SYSTEM.INI file speeds things up considerably.)
  78.  
  79. 2.   open one copy each of 5 or 6 of your most frequently 
  80. used programs before running ACCESSES. Open Windows File Manager 
  81. (or equivalent) and open the File Manager's 'About' Box (under the 
  82. Help menu) and if your 'Free System Resources are greater than 
  83. 30% open more windows until this number is between 20 to 30%, but 
  84. not less than 20%. eg. Open one each of Notepad, Write, Excel, 
  85. Winword, Amφ, calculator,..., etc If you're running windows in 
  86. the Enhanced Mode, open a DOS window as well and place the DOS 
  87. window where you want it to be placed.
  88.  
  89. If you are Beta testing Windows 3.1, don't open more than 30
  90. or 40 windows to avoid all of this taking too long.
  91.  
  92. 3.   Close any duplicate programs. For example, Run only one 
  93. 'Notepad'. If you want to keep a duplicate program open, 
  94. minimized the program whose position you do not want to store. 
  95. (TUTOR will explain how to save both in a separate procedure 
  96. after the installation.)
  97.  
  98. 4.   Move these programs to the window positions that you 
  99. want them to normally be in when in the 'Restored' (not maximized 
  100. and not minimized) positions. USE THE RESTORED POSITION for all 
  101. of these WINDOWS.
  102.  
  103. 3.   Then launch ACCESSES for the 1st time.
  104.  
  105. READ TUTOR in Accesses.hlp. This takes 5 minutes...
  106.  
  107. Do add accesses to your WIN.INI extensions using Accesses'
  108. Setup+Configure - Update WIN.INI extensions.

  112. What's next for Accesses...
  113.  
  114. I'm probably going to add an option to popup another window to
  115. display current available drive space.  My current thoughts are
  116. that this will be a separate tiny-tiny program that is driven by
  117. Accesses.  This way I'll be using only one timer for both
  118. programs...  One of the major objectives of Off the WALL Software
  119. is to minimize usage of your system resources with Off-the-Wall
  120. programs.

  124. Accesses does everything I could think of to help you access, 
  125. run, and place your programs where you want them to be. Accesses 
  126. can even do this from most other programs!!!! If you think of 
  127. something that Accesses should access and don't know how to do 
  128. it, call me. Accesses probably can do it now, if you knew how.
