  6. Paint Shop is a Windows 3.0 program.
  7. Paint Shop will allow you to display pictures, alter them and save them.
  8. Menu Items:
  9. File -
  10.      Open - allows you to select file to be displayed.
  11.      Save as - allows you to select the file format and a file name for the
  12.                displayed picture to be saved as.
  13.      Exit - Ends Paint Shop.
  14. Edit -
  15.      Copy - copys a marked area to the clipboard. (mark an area by moving the
  16.             cursor to the beginning point to be copied within the picuture area,
  17.             press and hold down the left mouse button, move the cursor to the
  18.             ending point to be copied. Release the left mouse button. Your area
  19.             should now be marked.)
  20.      Paste - copys a Device Dependent Bitmap from the clipboard to Paint Shop.
  21. Alter -
  22.      Flip - Flips the picture vertically.
  23.      Mirror - Flips the picture horizotally.
  24.      Rotate Right - Rotates the picture to the right.
  25.      Rotate Left - Rotates the picture to the left.
  26.      Stretch/Shrink - Allows you to select the size of the picture.
  27.      Trim - makes the marked area the current picture (see Copy for comments
  28.             on marking).

  30.      Help - Displays information about how to register Paint Shop.

  60. GIF files:
  61. There are 2 versions of the GIF file formats 87a and 89a.
  62. Paint Shop supports (can display) both versions.
  63.  
  64. Paint Shop will always SAVE AS a version 87a. When saving as a gif file
  65. format I find no advantage to creating the new version 89a.

  68. PCX files:
  69. PCX files come in 4 different versions.
  70. Paint Shop supports version 5.

  72. Version 5 is the version that Paintbrush (that came with Windows 3.0) reads and
  73. writes.

  75. Paint Shop will always produce a version 5, 256 color picture.
  76. This is not to say that your picture will have 256 colors, but rather it will
  77. produce a file that has a palette capable of holding 256 different colors.
  78. Some viewers will see this as the number of unique colors within the picture.
  79. This is not correct. There is room for 256 colors, but not necassarly 256
  80. unique colors.
  81. As an example, if you convert a black and white GIF file to PCX the resulting
  82. PCX will have room for 256 colors, but the picture will still be black and
  83. white.

  86. BMP and RLE files:
  87. BMP and RLE files come in 2 formats (Windows and OS2), within each format
  88. there are three types of compression routines.

  90. Paint Shop supports the Windows format.
  91. Paint Shop will read a BMP or RLE file with any of the three compression types.
  92. Paint Shop will write a BMP using RGB (no compression).
  93. Paint Shop will write a RLE using RLE8 (8 bit compression routine).

  119. that are requested the most will be the first ones to be added.
