  13. God's Word for Windows is an easy to use Bible reference program that runs under
  14. Microsoft Windows Version 3.0*.  God's Word for Windows  will help you study the
  15. Bible more effectively by making it more accessible.  Study is enhanced by giving
  16. you the ability to search the Bible by word, topic, or combination of words and 
  17. by providing function to copy verses from God's Word for Windows into other 
  18. Windows programs.

  22. Installation
  23.  
  24. God's Word for Windows requires the following from your computer's hardware and
  25. software:an IBM PC/AT or better, Microsoft Windows 3.0 and 5 megabytes of hard 
  26. disk space.
  27.  
  28. Use the following procedure to install God's Word for Windows:
  29.  
  30.  o Create a directory on your hard drive called C:\GW4WIN.
  31.  o Copy the contents of the distribution diskettes into that directory.
  32.  o Select the Program Group to install God's Word For Windows into by clicking 
  33.    on that group within the Program Manager.  For more information on Program 
  34.    Groups or the Program Manager, consult your Windows 3.0 reference manual.
  35.  o Pull down the Program Manager's File menu and select New.
  36.  o Select  Program Item from the resulting New Program Object dialog box.
  37.  o Click the OK button of the same dialog box.
  38.  o Type God's Word for Windows in the Description  field of the resulting 
  39.    Program Items dialog box.
  40.  o Type C:\GW4WIN\GW4WIN.EXE in the Command Line field of the same dialog box.
  41.  o Click the OK button of the same dialog box.  You should now see an Open 
  42.    Bible icon appear in the program group.

  44. How to Use God's Word For Windows

  46. Searching the Bible.
  47.  
  48. Use the following procedure to search for verses containing a given word:
  49.  
  50.  o Activate the Words field by clicking on the Words field or by pressing <Alt>w
  51.  o Type in the word you wish to search for using upper or lower case letters.
  52.  o Start the search by clicking the GO! button.
  53.  
  54. Use the following procedure to search for verses containing a group of words:
  55.  
  56.  o Activate the first Words field by clicking on the Words field, or by pressing
  57.    <Alt>w.
  58.  o Type in the first word using upper or lower case letters.
  59.  o Combine the first word with the next word using And, Or, or And Not by 
  60.    clicking on either the And,  the Or or the And Not option buttons next to the 
  61.    first Words field.  And enables searches for verses containing the first word 
  62.    And a second word.  Or enables searches for verses containing the first word 
  63.    Or a second word. And Not enables searches for verses containing the first 
  64.    word And Not a second word.  For more information on option buttons, see the 
  65.    Program Manager's help topic entitled Option Buttons.
  66.  o Activate the second Words field by clicking on it, or by pressing the <Tab> 
  67.    key.
  68.  o Type in the second word.
  69.  
  70.  o Optional - Combine the second word with the third word using And, Or, 
  71.    or And Not.
  72.  o Optional - Activate the third  Words field by clicking on it, or by pressing
  73.    the <Tab> key.
  74.  o Optional - Type in the third word.
  75.  
  76.  o Start the search by clicking the GO! button.

  78. Use the following procedure to search for verses pertaining to a particular 
  79. topic:
  80.  
  81.  o Choose the topic of interest by pulling down the Topic drop-down list box 
  82.    and choosing a topic from that list.   For more information on Drop-down Lists 
  83.    see the Program Manager's help topic entitled Drop-down List Boxes.
  84.  o Start the search by clicking the GO! button.

  86. Use the following procedure to limit any of the above searches to one book in 
  87. the Bible:
  88.  
  89.  o Choose the book in the Bible to limit the search to by pulling down the Book
  90.    drop-down list box and choosing the desired book from that list.
  91.  o Complete the search by using any of the previous procedures
  92.  
  93. Use the following procedure browse through the list of matching verses
  94.  
  95.  o After following one of the previous procedures, the number of matching verses
  96.    will be displayed next to the Verses Found field and the list of matching
  97.    references will be displayed in the box underneath the same field.  If no 
  98.    verses match, No References Found will be displayed.
  99.  o Activate the Verses Found list box by clicking anywhere in the box or by 
  100.    pressing <ALT>f.
  101.  o Choose verses to peruse by highlighting references in this list box .  The
  102.    corresponding verse will be displayed in the Verse box.  For more information 
  103.    on List Boxes, see the Program Manager help topic entitled List Boxes.

  105. Use the following procedure to copying a verse or verses to other Windows 
  106. programs
  107.  
  108.  o Perform a search using any of the previous procedures.
  109.  o Find the verse to print using the previous procedure for browsing the list of
  110.    matching verses.
  111.  o Click the button labeled Copy To Clipboard or press <ALT>c
  112.  o Activate the application to receive the verse.
  113.  o Position the cursor at the insertation point.
  114.  o Pull down the program's Edit menu and choose Paste.
  115.  o Return to God's Word For Windows by pressing <Ctrl><Esc> and choosing God's 
  116.    Word for Windows from the Windows 3.0 task list.
  117.  o You may copy more than one verse to the clipboard using Copy To Clipboard for
  118.    the first verse and Append to Clipboard or <Alt>d for subsequent verses.

  120. Use the following procedure to print a verse on the printer
  121.  
  122.  o Perform a search using any of the previous procedures.
  123.  o Find the verse to print using the previous procedure for browsing the list of
  124.    matching verses.
  125.  o Click the button labeled Print or press <ALT>p.

  127. Short Cut Keys
  128.  
  129. The following keys short cut keys may be used.
  130.  
  131.      <Alt>a         Activate the About box.
  132.      <Alt>b         Activate the Book field.
  133.      <Alt>c         Copy the displayed verse to the clipboard.
  134.      <Alt>d         Append the displayed verse to the contents of the clipboard.
  135.      <Alt>f         Activate the Verses Found: list box.
  136.      <Alt>g         Start the search.
  137.      <Alt>t         Activate the Topics combo box.
  138.      <Alt>h         Activate on-line Help.
  139.      <Alt>p         Print the displayed verse.
  140.      <Alt>w         Activate the Words edit field.
  141.      <Alt>x         Exit this program.

  144. The Demonstration Version
  145.  
  146. This demonstration version of God's Word For Windows contains the books Matthew,
  147. Mark, Luke and John.  I would have included the entire Bible in the 
  148. demonstration version but that would have made the demonstration prohibitively
