  4. WINFAX PRO is a fax communications product for Microsoft Windows from Delrina 
  5. Technology Inc. This "Test Drive" version of WINFAX PRO is designed to give 
  6. you a preview of the features in the full WINFAX PRO product. You may copy 
  7. and freely distribute WINFAX PRO "Test Drive".

  17. Overview of WINFAX PRO
  18. ======================
  19. WINFAX PRO consists of four components:
  20.  
  21.   1.  The WINFAX PRO printer driver is installed in your system like any 
  22.       other Windows compatible printer. To send a fax from any Windows 
  23.       application, choose "WINFAX" using the application's Printer Setup or 
  24.       equivalent command, and then select the Print command.
  25.  
  26.   2.  The WINFAX PRO receive module handles incoming faxes.
  27.  
  28.   3.  The WINFAX PRO Image Viewer lets you preview faxes on the screen.
  29.  
  30.   4.  The WINFAX PRO Administrator performs the actual fax send and receive 
  31.       functions. It also provides fax management tools.

  34. Installing WINFAX PRO Test Drive
  35. ================================
  36. If you downloaded WINFAX PRO in a .ZIP file (FAXDEMO.ZIP) unzip it to a
  37. floppy disk first before proceeding then....
  38.  
  39. If you have not yet installed WINFAX PRO Test Drive ...
  40.  
  41.   1.  Insert the disk into your computer's floppy disk drive.
  42.  
  43.   2.  From the Windows Program Manager menu bar, pull down the File menu and 
  44.       click on the command Run. In the Run dialog, type
  45.  
  46.       A:\INSTALL (or B:\INSTALL)
  47.  
  48.       and click on OK. The installation program can detect whether or not you 
  49.       have a fax/modem in your computer. (You can still install WINFAX PRO 
  50.       Test Drive without a fax/modem to just preview WINFAX PRO's screens and 
  51.       dialogs). The installation program suggests drives and directories for 
  52.       your installation which you can overwrite.

  54.  
  55. Setting Up WINFAX PRO Test Drive to Send and Receive
  56. ====================================================
  57. If you are running WINFAX PRO Test Drive with a Class 2 or Sendfax fax/modem 
  58. and will be sending and/or receiving test faxes, you may need to fine tune 
  59. your WINFAX configuration. (Note that you cannot send and receive with
  60. WINFAX PRO Test Drive if you have a CAS compatible fax/modem).
  61.  
  62. Use the Setup command to check and adjust the following settings:
  63.  
  64.     Paper Size - Choose the paper format in which you will typically send 
  65.     your faxes.
  66.  
  67.     Default Resolution - Select 200 x 200 dpi to achieve the highest quality 
  68.     fax documents. Select 100 x 200 DPI only if transmission time (cost) is 
  69.     more important than the print quality of the fax at the receiving end.
  70.  
  71.     Orientation - Choose the orientation in which you want your faxed pages 
  72.     printed at the receiving end.
  73.  
  74.     Display Call Progress - With this feature enabled, WINFAX PRO displays a 
  75.     dialog with status messages while you are sending and receiving faxes. 
  76.     This feature is recommended in the WINFAX PRO Test Drive, because other 
  77.     fax notification features available in WINFAX PRO are not available in 
  78.     this demonstration.
  79.  
  80.     Speaker Mode - Set the speaker to always be off or on, or on until WINFAX 
  81.     PRO connects with a sending or receiving fax device.
  82.  
  83.     Modem Setup - Configure your fax/modem to handle the following:
  84.  
  85.       Detect Busy Tone
  86.  
  87.       Detect Dial Tone
  88.  
  89.       Pulse Dial - Select this setting if your telephone system does not 
  90.       support "touch tone" dialing.
  91.  
  92.       Dial Retries - Set the number of times you would like WINFAX PRO to try 
  93.       to send a fax when it encounters a busy signal at the receiving end.
  94.  
  95.       Retry Time - Set the number of seconds between each retry.
  96.  
  97.       Init String - Add special modem settings, if desired.
  98.  
  99.       Maximum Transmission Rate (Max Tx Rate) - Set the maximum rate at which 
  100.       your fax hardware is designed to transmit.
  101.  
  102.       Volume - Choose a low, medium or high volume setting for your 
  103.       fax/modem's speaker.
  104.  
  105.       Fax Header - This feature is not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.
  106.  
  107.       Station Identifier - Type in your fax number.
  108.  
  109.       Sender Name - Type in your name or company name.

  112. Previewing WINFAX PRO with WINFAX PRO Test Drive
  113. ================================================
  114. The following describes the full functionality of WINFAX PRO, with Test Drive 
  115. limitations noted.
  116.  
  117.  *  WINFAX PRO runs with internal or external fax/modems with send or 
  118.     send/receive capabilities:
  119.  
  120.       Send only - must be Sendfax compatible
  121.  
  122.     Send/receive - must conform to one of the following sets of 
  123.     specifications:
  124.  
  125.      Intel DCA/CAS (Communicating Applications Specification)
  126.     or
  127.      Class 2 (TR29.2 EIA PN 2388 recommendation)
  128.  
  129.     Refer to the end of this README file for a list of some known WINFAX 
  130.     compatible boards.
  131.  
  132.  *  WINFAX PRO (CAS version) software components work consistently and 
  133.     seamlessly in relation to existing CAS software. Any additions or changes 
  134.     you make via WINFAX PRO are also detected by your CAS software. For 
  135.     example, if you edit your phonebooks in WINFAX PRO, the changes are 
  136.     reflected when you view your phonebooks using your CAS software. Files 
  137.     from send and receive events generated from WINFAX PRO are also 
  138.     accessible via your CAS software.
  139.  
  140.     Note:   Some of the features and dialogs shown in WINFAX PRO Test Drive 
  141.             do not appear in the CAS version of WINFAX PRO, because those 
  142.             features are handled by software accompanying the CAS fax/modem.
  143.  
  144.     Sending Faxes
  145.     -------------
  146.     * Send faxes from any Windows application by simply selecting the 
  147.       application's Print command.
  148.       [You can only send one-page faxes using WINFAX PRO Test Drive. In 
  149.       WINFAX PRO, you can send unlimited numbers of pages.]
  150.  
  151.     * Broadcast a fax to a group of recipients, as well as sending them to 
  152.       individuals.
  153.       [Group broadcasts are not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  154.  
  155.     * Combine documents and data from multiple Windows applications - such as 
  156.       a letter from your word processor, a diagram or graphic from your paint 
  157.       or draw program, and a cover sheet from your forms processing package - 
  158.       into a single fax message.
  159.       [You cannot combine documents from multiple applications in WINFAX PRO 
  160.       Test Drive.]
  161.  
  162.     * Send faxes directly from WINFAX, complete with cover page. Define 
  163.       customized cover pages for these quick faxes, including logos, fax 
  164.       information blocks and additional text.
  165.       ["Direct send" faxes and cover pages are not available in WINFAX PRO 
  166.       Test Drive.]
  167.  
  168.     Receiving Faxes
  169.     ---------------
  170.     * Receive faxes in automatic or manual mode. When receiving 
  171.       automatically, you can immediately view faxes or send them directly to 
  172.       your printer.
  173.       [You can only view one received page - the last page sent to you - in 
  174.       WINFAX PRO Test Drive. Also, manual receive and view, print and notify
  175.       on receive are not available.]
  176.  
  177.     * Receive faxes while in DOS or other non-Windows applications by running 
  178.       a WINFAX TSR (terminate but stay resident, or memory resident) program.
  179.       (The TSR is not required if you have a CAS compatible fax/modem.)
  180.       [The WINFAX TSR is not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  181.  
  182.     Viewing Faxes
  183.     -------------
  184.     * Preview outgoing faxes and fax attachments before sending them.
  185.       [WINFAX PRO Test Drive provides sample files only to view.]
  186.  
  187.     * Review incoming faxes automatically or at your discretion. View 
  188.       individual pages, or get an overview of all pages in a fax.
  189.       [You can view one received page at a time in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  190.  
  191.     * Rotate received faxes to a more suitable orientation, by 90, 180 or 270 
  192.       degrees. When you receive a fax upside down, flip all pages right side 
  193.       up!
  194.       [These features are not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  195.  
  196.     * Use four different zoom factors (magnification levels) to view your 
  197.       faxes.
  198.       [Only the 100% and full page zoom factors are available in WINFAX PRO
  199.       Test Drive.]
  200.  
  201.     * Convert faxes to graphic image file formats - PC Paintbrush+ (PCX) and 
  202.       Tag Image File Format (TIFF). You can modify and reuse fax images in 
  203.       other applications.
  204.       [This feature is not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  205.  
  206.     * Select an area from a fax image and copy it to the Windows clipboard. 
  207.       You can then copy the selected portion of the fax image to another 
  208.       Windows application.
  209.       [This feature is not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  210.  
  211.     * Convert received faxes to WINFAX file format. You can then attach a 
  212.       received fax to send it out as part of another fax.
  213.       [This feature is not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  214.  
  215.     Managing Faxes, Fax Events and Phonebooks
  216.     -----------------------------------------
  217.     * Store fax numbers for individuals and broadcast groups in online 
  218.       directories, called phonebooks. Import names and fax numbers from ASCII 
  219.       text files to your WINFAX phonebooks. Each phonebook can contain a 
  220.       total of up to 1,000 individuals and groups, and you can have an 
  221.       unlimited number of phonebooks.
  222.       [These features are not fully functional in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  223.  
  224.     * Schedule faxes to transmit at a future date and time to take advantage 
  225.       of low rates and international time differences.
  226.       [This feature is not available in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  227.  
  228.     * View a list of scheduled faxes waiting to be sent, and received faxes 
  229.       waiting to be viewed. Delete and reschedule pending fax events.
  230.       [These features are not fully functional in WINFAX PRO Test Drive.]
  231.  
  232.     * Review detailed activity logs of previously sent and received faxes. 
  233.       Each entry includes information on station identifier, resolution, 
  234.       pages sent and received, status messages and so on. You can delete log 
  235.       entries, purge the log of all events, resubmit faxes to be sent again, 
  236.       catalogue received faxes with descriptions and print the contents of 
  237.       the logs.
