  9.     DO NOT COPY THE ALMANAC FILES INTO THE DIRECTORY OR DIRECTORIES THAT
  10.     YOU WISH TO INSTALL THEM TO!  INSTALLATION SHOULD BE PERFORMED FROM
  11.     A TEMPORARY DIRECTORY OR A FLOPPY DISK ONLY.

  13.     The program ALMSETUP.EXE is provided to allow easily installation and
  14.     initial configuration of Almanac in your Windows system.  If you are a
  15.     registered user, and are installing Almanac into a NEW windows system
  16.     (like Windows 3.0, you should run ALMSETUP twice; once to install and
  17.     register, and a second time with the '/C' option (see item #1.C. below)
  18.     just to convert any existing support files.  Sorry for the inconvenience, 
  19.     I will update the program to do the convert AFTER registration on the
  20.     next release.

  23.     WINDOWS 2.x USERS:  You must change the current Windows directory to
  24.                         the directory containing the setup files before
  25.                         running ALMSETUP.
  26.  
  27.     WINDOW 3.0 USERS:   Simply select 'File' from the Program Manager
  28.                         and then select 'Run...'.  Enter the command line
  29.                         for ALMSETUP using the directory the setup files
  30.                         are located in.

  32.                         Examples>   A:\ALMSETUP or D:\TEMP\ALMSETUP

  35.        1.  Start ALMSETUP from Windows from within the same directory
  36.            as the rest of the Almanac files.  If you perform the setup
  37.            from a hard disk, files are relocated to the installation
  38.            directories.  If your setup files are on a floppy disk, the
  39.            files will be copied (and not removed) from the floppy.

  41.            Besides starting ALMSETUP for normal installation, you
  42.            may also activate two other features by using the 'Run...'
  43.            command from the 'File' menu:
  44.  
  45.               A. Entering 'ALMSETUP C:\mywindir' tells the program
  46.                  where to find your Windows directory if it is not
  47.                  WINDOWS or WIN386 or is on a drive higher than 'F:'.
  48.  
  49.               B. Entering 'ALMSETUP /C' will skip the installation
  50.                  process and go immediately to the support file
  51.                  conversion phase (available only to registered users).
  52.  
  53.        2.  You will be presented with a dialog box allowing selection of
  54.            the sub-directories for Almanac's files.  To accept the default
  55.            installation paths simply select 'Install'.  The installation
  56.            paths are described in detail below.  Select 'Install' after
  57.            selecting your desired directories.

  59.        3.  If ALMSETUP detects a previous Almanac installation and you are
  60.            a registered user, you will be provided with an opportunity to
  61.            convert any existing support files you may have created (except
  62.            the location data base).  You will be prompted to select the
  63.            disk drive(s) you would like scanned.  ALMSETUP will locate all
  64.            overlay, auto-load module, and desk files that will require
  65.            conversion.  You may select any or all of these files for
  66.            processing.  All current files will be renamed by changing the
  67.            'A' in their extensions to a tilde '~' when they are converted
  68.            so the old files are still available should they be required.
  69.            You should delete these files after determining the new files
  70.            work correctly and that you are comfortable with version .95.

  72.        4.  After installation has completed, ALMSETUP will continue with
  73.            options for entering registration information or viewing the
  74.            Almanac documentation.

  76.        NOTE: ALMSETUP will not copy any of the *.TXT elements during the
  77.        installation process (the program manual ALMANAC.WRI *is* copied into
  78.        your Almanac directory).  You should review these files, and
  79.        unregistered users who would like to order Almanac should print the
  80.        ALMORDER.TXT file.

  114.        In the above diagram, ALMANAC.EXE is installed in the main Windows
  115.        directory.  ALMANAC's system files are contained in the ALMANAC
  116.        sub-directory located below.  In addition to the location data file
  117.        and font files provided with ALMANAC, all auto-load modules (*.ALM)
  118.        are maintained in this sub-directory.

  120.        Below the ALMANAC sub-directory are the ALO and ALD directories.
  121.        These are the initial directories to store calendar overlay files
  122.        and where ALMANAC maintains desk data information.  You may later
  123.        create other overlay and desk sub-directories, if you desire, and
  124.        select them in auto-load modules that you create.

  126.        You may select directories however you like.  The above example is
  127.        only a suggested approach.  It is not neccessary to place the
  128.        directories under your WINDOWS directory, nor do you have to keep the
  129.        files separated into different directories.
