  53. 2) MORE INFORMATION ON MICHELANGELO
  54.  
  55. The Michelangelo virus activates itself on March 6th, the 
  56. anniversary of Michelangelo's birth.  The Michelangelo virus is 
  57. spread only by floppy disks - not over networks or by connecting 
  58. to electronic on line services and bulletin boards.  The virus is 
  59. transferred to memory and hard disks when an attempt is made to 
  60. start up (boot) your computer from a floppy disk that is infected.  
  61. The floppy does not have to be a bootable floppy disk; it can be 
  62. simply a floppy disk with data files on it.  Once the virus is on 
  63. the hard disk, it will infect every floppy that you put in your 
  64. computer, thereby creating further infections that help it 
  65. continue to spread.

  67. On March 6th, if the machine is infected when it is started, the 
  68. virus will be activated and will begin formatting the hard disk.  
  69. This will cause all data on the hard disk to be irretrievably 
  70. destroyed.

  73. Michelangelo virus, and will restore the hard disk partition table 
  74. to its original location.  Remember, however, that once the virus 
  75. activates, even though it can be removed after it activates, the

  155. 4) GENERAL VIRUS INFORMATION
  156.  
  157. The 10 most common DOS viruses are:
  158.  
  159. Stoned:  
  160. The most common virus. Infects hard disk partition table and 
  161. floppy diskette boot sector.
  162.  
  163. Jerusalem-B:  
  164. Activates on Friday the 13th.  The second most common virus. 
  165. Strain will delete any files executed on a Friday the 13th.  Can 
  166. cause enormous amount of file growth due to multiple infections.
  167.  
  168. Disk Killer : 
  169. Activates after 48 hours of computer usage time.  Single most 
  170. destructive MS-DOS virus. It XORs the entire hard disk and 
  171. irrevocably destroys all data.
  172.  
  173. Frodo (4096): 
  174. Activates on September 22.
  175. This destructive memory-resident virus uses stealth technique on 
  176. cross-link files and may even corrupt data files.  On September 
  177. 22, it activates and the system hangs.

  179. Ping-Pong (Italian-A): 
  180. An infector of boot sectors, activates on a (Ping Pong) random 
  181. basis, sending a 'pong-like' white ball bouncing around the 
  182. screen.
  183.  
  184. Joshi:  
  185. Activates on January 5th.  A stealth infector of floppy diskette 
  186. boot sector and hard disk partition tables. On January 5th, it 
  187. displays a message asking the user to type "Happy Birthday Joshi".

  189. Michelangelo:  (see above)
  190.  
  191. Yankee Doodle: 
  192. A memory-resident infector that plays "Yankee Doodle" at 5:00 PM 
  193. and increases the infected program size.
  194.  
  195. Azusa:
  196. This virus infects hard disk partition table and floppy diskette 
  197. boot sectors. It occasionally disables the LPT1 and COM1 ports. It 
  198. can also cause floppy drives to refuse to acknowledge that disks 
  199. have been swapped.
  200.  
  201. Dark Avenger:  
  202. Infects .COM, .EXE and .SYS files.  After every 16th file has been 
  203. infected, the virus overwrites a random sector of the hard disk 
  204. destroying programs and data files in that sector.
