- AUTOSCAN - The ugly history
- ───────────────────────────
-
- 10-19-90 Version 1.0:
- First public release, needed a config file to run and only
- supported ZIP and ARC files...Needed a dedicated "work" directory
-
- 10-20-90 Version 1.1:
- Someone wanted the ability to scan the hard drive(s) so that code
- was thrown in...(yea - a day later.)
- Added built in config file editing.
-
- 11-15-90 Version 1.2:
- Removed all code for the config file and built in the ability to
- search the current path for any needed files. Added support for
- ZIP,ARC,ICE,LZH and PAK files..Installed code to make it's own
- work directory and delete it when done...NO config file is now
- needed..(ok Eric ?? <smirk>).
- The log file was placed in the root directory of the current drive,
- also added time and date to the log.
-
- 12-23-90 Version 1.3:
- Made MANY changes is the source code and dropped the size of the
- EXE file..Log file is now placed in the same directory as
- AUTOSCAN.EXE, beats having a few of them eh?. Extended the scanning
- of hard drives to C: thru H:. Log file reports more of what is going
- on plus it's easier to read now..
- Check for DosExitcode and Doserror installed, made it a little more
- reliable when it checks how scan.exe exited.
- Installed code to run CHECK.EXE to simulate a Virus...
- Happy Christmas!!!!
-
- 01-13-91 Version 2.0:
- Hmm many changes to the source code. AUTOSCAN will now scan archives
- within archives to ANY level and ANY combination of compression types.
- Added support for LHARC and PKXARC, AUTOSCAN will use them if ICE.EXE
- or PKUNPAK.EXE aren't found. It will also check free disk space, if
- the amount of free space is less that 50% times the archive size
- AUTOSCAN will exit and make a note in the log.
- AUTOSCAN will now keep track of the files it has already processed.
- AUTOSCAN, if it detects a bad Archive or Virus, will rename the file
- with and extension of .BAD.
- Fixed a minor problem that if any needed file wasn't within the first
- 40 characters of the path it wouldn't be found..oops..sorry..
-
- Added in several Dos Errorlevels so batch files can be used effectivly.
- 'Bout it for now I think ! Any Ideas ?
- First version released onto the SDS Network..
-
- 01-27-91 version 2.1:
- Hmm many changes to this one too, just when I thought I was done..
- Thanks to a few people around the country I have added a few more
- things in....
- Added F10 to abort - Please read the docs. reguarding this option.
- Added /N and /A these option are for the registered version ($10) and
- allow AUTOSCAN to check for Bad Archives only and Scan all drives
- and examine ALL ARCHIVES...WOW!.
- MANY internal changes to the code, streamlined a few of the procedures
- and functions...Changed the amount of memory that Autoscan needs in
- order to prevent runtime errors on some machines.
- Scan.Exe will now only scan RAM on the first pass, thus the runtime of
- autoScan is vastly reduced. Remember AUTOSCAN ? for online Help.
- GO GIANTS!!!!..
-
- 03-06-91 Version 3.0 Beta and 3.0
- I don't know where to start describing what I have been doing to this
- program..Almost all of the internal code got 'tweaked' by the use of
- Turbo Profiler (great program to show where time is spent in a prog.)
- Added the Reboot option /F, the config file support and switch /K.
- The most important feature now is that AutoScan no longer looks at the
- file extension to determine the archive, it now examines the header of
- each file to determine if it is an archive and if so what type..Made
- things more reliable and a lot faster...Fixed a minor bug with the /O
- option, you can now specify a path and filename. Reworked AutoScan ?
- and added some nice artwork (Thanks again to Josh Linder).. Fixed
- another minor prob. with the freespace checking, it now reports the
- correct size..
- OK so whats next ? dunno any ideas ??
-
- 03-29-91 Version 3.1
- Reduced the amount of Stack space used and added command line parameters
- for SCAN.EXE from within the config file. The tampering and self virus
- checking has been greatly improved. AutoScan will check its file size,
- time stamp and it's CRC. If any of these fail AutoScan will NOT run.
-
- 06-08-91 Version 3.2
- Included the /U option to specify the "unarchive drive". Rewrote some
- internal routines to increase AutoScans speed and lower the exe size.
- Rewrote the errorhandler routine to display two error codes to help
- track down any problems (Problems???? naaa).. See ERROR.LST for details
- Some DOS version do not report the drive name where AutoScan resides,
- added the Environment Variable AUTOSCAN - See the docs on this one...
- Made a few cosmetic changes here and there... Got rid of the nasty
- flashing unregistered delay bit (whew)..
-
- Autoscan (C)opyright 1991 /\/\ountainTop Technologies.
