- /m treats video adapter as MDA in 80x25 B&W text mode
- /h displays help screen
- /? displays help screen
-
- This utility is intended to help users keep track of their system
- configurations and to aid in setting up new machines. It reports:
-
- 1. Machine type 9. Initial video state
- 2. CPU type & manufacturer 10. Current video state
- 3. NDP type 11. Video adapter type
- 4. ROM BIOS date 12. Amount of system memory
- 5. DOS version number 13. Amount of extended memory
- 6. Number of floppy drives 14. EMS version in use
- 7. Number serial ports 15. Amount of EMS expanded memory
- 8. Number of printer ports 16. Total & free space/logged drive
-
- In addition, when the appropriate option is selected, it will report:
-
- 1. Disk type (5¼" 360K|1.2M or 3½" 720K|1.44M floppies/fixed/RAM)
- 2. Total space
- 3. Free space
- 4. Cluster size
-
- for all disks on the system. The display screens may be saved to a file
- or printed out via alternate menu selections, at your disgression. (When
- printing the screens on an HP Laserjet use font PS8dn, since it contains
- the unique line drawing and special characters seen on the screen.)There
- are two files, PC-INFO.CFG and PC-INFO.DSK, which may be created by this
- program. In the event that these files already exist,a warning is output
- and the original files are left untouched, with no new file created. In
- an analagous manner, the disk is checked for sufficient available space
- prior to creating new files, and a suitable warning is output if PC-INFO
- determines that such space is not present.
-
- The appropriate PIF file is provided to facilitate the use of PC-INFO in
- the Microsoft Windows (tm) operating environment. This file typically is
- added to the \windows\pif directory. Note that when PC-INFO is run from
- within Windows it is likely to indicate an incorrect value of RAM memory
- installed. This is related to the way Windows handles RAM memory and is
- not the fault of PC-INFO.
-
- It has been run on IBM PC, PC XT, PC AT, PS/2 Models 25,30,50,55Z,60,70,
- 80, AT&T PC6300/PC6300+/PC6310/PC6312,6386WGS & the Xerox 606x machines.
- PC-INFO has been tested on a variety of AST, COMPAQ, CLUB AT, COMPU-ADD,
- DELL, DTK clones, DATA GENERAL, NEC, PC LIMITED, SPERRY, TANDY, TOSHIBA,
- & ZENITH models. Unfortunatly, we don't have access to all models built
- by these firms for evaluation purposes.(We have occasionally encountered
- an AST 386, an AT&T PC6300+ or an IBM PS/2 Model 70 which PC-INFO causes
- to lock up. An ongoing effort is being made to resolve these apparently
- BIOS related incompabilities.)
-
-
- PC-IDENT is a stand alone utility which may be used to identify the real
- manufacturer of your machine and the ROM BIOS it contains. This program
- displays the most likely copyright message, as well as all ASCII strings
- which match certain search criteria.
-
- If PC-INFO does not return the correct manufacturer or model, please run
- PC-IDENT and send us a copy of the output so that we may upgrade PC-INFO
- to recognize your machine/model.
-
- My thanks to Bob Smith (of Qualitas,Inc.in Bethesda MD) for the pointers
- in adapting the code used in his program CPUID.ASM (published in PC Tech
- Journal - April 1986 - Vol. 4 #4) to determine the type of CPU installed
- in the system under test.
