- This is the color of the background in the menu box. If this is the
- same as either the Menu Text Color or the System Heading Color certain
- portions of your menu descriptions will not be legible.
-
- |61
- This is the name of the menu. You must use only letters & numbers with
- no spaces. This is used to create a file to store the menu options in.
- The file has the extension .Mxx, where xx is the version of the menu
- system you are using.
-
- |29
- This is the color your current choice on the menu is displayed in.
- The current selected option is displayed in the System Heading
- Color, the background in the color selected here.
-
- |30
- Easy Access allows 2 different screen display formats, options 1 & 2.
- Option 1 assigns letters automatically beginning with the letter 'A'.
- Option 2 uses the first letter of your description as the option letter.
- If you are unclear about this try one, and then the other. The difference
- in the menu display will be obvious.
-
- |58
- This is the program flag, the computer wants 1 of 3 things here, they
- are: P - Pause, this causes the computer to ask you to hit a key
- before it returns to the menu after running your program.
- This can be useful if you need to see what is on the screen
- after exiting your program.
- C - Command line, the computer will ask you for the command
- line your program needs to run properly. Example, you have
- setup an option on the menu to backup your disk, the
- program name is BACKUP, but you need to tell it what to
- backup. This option also pauses before returning to the
- menu. The command is only effective on the 1st program
- line.
- N - No special processing, you will probably
- use this 90% of the time. It does not have to be an
- 'N' any character other than a 'C' or 'P' will work
- the same.
-
- |19
- This is used in conjunction with Screen Time Out. When the screen
- times out this is the message that will be displayed to inform the
- operator of this fact.
-
- A blank message here will leave the screen entirely dark when the
- screen times out.
- |17
- This lets the menu know if you want to keep track of when each program
- on your menu was last run. Effectively this enables/disables the F3 key
- from the main menu.
-
- A slight increase in the speed of Easy Access is gained by answering 'N'
- to this question.
- |209
- This is the user's access list. It is used in conjunction with the
- access code on each menu option to decide if a user is allowed to
- run that option. A blank list allows the user access to all options
- regardless of that options access code.
- |56
- This is the access code. It is used in conjunction with the access
- codes on the user definition to decide if a user is allowed to run
- a particular program. The code (a letter A-Z) entered here must be
- in the users access code list for the user to be allowed to run this
- program.
-
- If users are not enabled then this entry is ignored.
- |57
- This is the description that will appear on the menu screen.
- |59
- If this field is left blank there are no restrictions on who may use
- this option. If you enter 1 character here it is considered to be an
- access code, the user must have this code in his/her list to be able
- to run this program/sub-menu. Anything else is considered to be a
- password, the password must be entered correctly before the user will
- be allowed to run this option. Passwords are case sensitive. If you
- enter your password in lower case it must always be entered in lower case.
- |60
- This is an additional help/description field for this option. It will
- display below the menu when this option is highlighted.
- |62
- This is the type of menu option this is to be. There are 3 types:
-
- H - Menu Heading, this displays a line of text within the body of the
- menu. It can not be chosen by the user as an actual option. This
- is designed to make the menus easier to read & give more control
- over how & where things are displayed.
- P - Program Option, this is used to attach programs to the menu. Easy
- Access considers any DOS command and files with the extensions BAT,
- COM, & EXE to be programs.
- M - Sub-Menu Option, this is used to define a menu that is accessed from
- this menu.
- |312
- To choose this key to edit just hit the enter key, otherwise use the
- arrow keys to get to the deisired key.
- |301
- This option enables/disables the user defined function keys. If you enter
- 'N' here Easy Access will not display nor allow access to the user defined
- function keys.
- |302
- This tells Easy Access where to return to after running an application.
- If you enter 'N' here Easy Access will always return to the top menu with
- the 1st option highligted even if you ran your application from a sub-menu.
- A 'Y' here will always return you to the menu you ran the application from.
- |220
- This is your sign on, if you do not remember what it is you may have
- a problem.
- |221
- Enter your password, it does not appear on the screen, if you make a
- mistake just try again.
- |15
- This is the batch file name used to invoke the menu system. If you
- have a conflict with other programs that are called 'MENU', you may
- change the name here.
- |81
- If you want to see information on just one user enter their sign on
- here, otherwise hit the Enter key and information on all users will
- be accessed.
- |82
- If you want to see when & by whom a particular program has been run
- enter the program name here.
- |83
- This is the date to begin searching for data, all records prior to
- this date will be ignored.
- |84
- This is the most recent date to display, any records after this date
- will be ignored.
- |85
- This is a 24 hour time, so 2 PM should be entered as 1400, all records
- between 0000 and this time will be ignored.
- |85
- This is a 24 hour time, so 11 PM should be entered as 2300, all records
- between this time and 2400 will be ignored.
- |141
- If you no longer have any need for the data in the log file enter a 'Y'
- here and the file will be cleared of all past data. You should clear
- the file periodically because the file just keeps getting bigger and
- bigger.
- |201
- This is the user's sign on, I would recommend using a persons first name.
- This is not a password and does appear on the screen as they type it.
-
- If you hit the Enter key here the first sign on will be displayed. You
- can scroll through all of the entries by hitting the Enter key.
-
- F10 takes you back to the menu.
- |202
- This is the users full name, or something that you recognize as being
- directly associated with this person.
- |203
- This is their password, they must know both their sign on and password
- to be able to access the system. The password is not displayed on the
- screen when they enter it.
- |204
- Is this user allowed to set up and modify other users ?
-
- Keep in mind that if you enter a 'Y' here they can delete YOU from the
- menu system.
- |205
- This allows the user to modify the configuration file. This is as
- critical as allowing someone to add/modify other users.
- |206
- Is this user allowed to add, modify, or delete menus ? If not do not
- enter a 'Y' here.
- |207
- Do you want this user to have access to the usage report ? Keep in mind
- that this shows when and what YOU have been doing on the system.
-
- Usage reporting only works if you have answered 'Y' to usage log in the
- configuration.
- |208
- Do you want this user to have access to DOS ? If not, enter 'N', if you
- do, enter 'Y'.
-
- You can not stop the determined user from getting to DOS. When first
- booting the system hitting CTRL-C will allow the user to terminate
- Autoexec.bat, thus leaving them in DOS. Also if you use the 'P' or 'C'
- option in setting up a menu item, the user can hit CTRL-C when the
- computer asks them to 'hit any key to continue'.
- |210
- If everything is ok just hit the Enter key, if not you can either modify
- what you have done by hitting the F1 key or give up and start again by
- typing a 'D'.
-
- If you delete yourself have fun.
- |211
- The '*' password is necessary for the program. If you need to make it
- unavailable I suggest changing the password & limiting what it is allowed
- to do.
- |54
- This is the name of the program you are running, extensions are not
- necessary.
-
- Ex: C:\UTILS\PCTOOLS.COM is the program you are adding to the menu, then
- enter 'PCTOOLS' here.
-
- |53
- This is the directory the program you wish to run is in.
- Ex: C:\UTILS\PCTOOLS is the program you are adding to the menu, then
- the path will be 'UTILS'.
-
- |52
- This is the drive the program you wish to attach to the menu resides on.
- Ex: C:\UTILS\PCTOOLS is the program you want to add to the menu then
- the drive will be 'C'.
-
- |51
- This is the title of this menu, it appears on the screen directly
- underneath the System Heading.
- |50
- This is the return menu file name, do not put in extensions, all menu
- files have a default extension of '.MNU'.
-
- You normally do not want to change this. Changing this will make the
- menu not return to the menu that preceded it. The only reason you
- would wish to change this would be if you are rearranging sub-menus.
-
- A value here for the main menu, 'MS.MNU', is ignored.
-
- If you wish to delete this menu type 'DELETE', this menu file will be
- erased from the disk.
- |12
- This will cause the computer to clear your screen if you have not touched
- the keyboard within the number of minutes specified here. If the screen
- does clear, hitting any key on the keyboard will bring it back. This
- only works while in the menu program and does not affect any of your
- applications. Entering a '0' here disables the screen saver option.
- Screen saver does not work if HELP is on the screen, i.e. you hit F1 and
- have not yet exited from the help.
-
- The idea behind this is that if you leave one thing on your screen for
- an extended period of time it eventually gets burned into the screen so
- that even when it is not on the screen you can still see the outline of
- where it was.
- |11
- Do you wish to keep a log of what everyone does on the system ? If you
- do answer 'Y'. This will allow F7 to work from the menu, (if the user
- is allowed to access usage reporting). If you answer 'N' then F7 will
- not even be defined at the bottom of your screen. Keep in mind that
- given time a log file can get rather large, so if you do not use this
- you should answer 'N'.
-
- A slight increase in speed is gained by answering 'N' here.
-
- |18
- This disables/enables the reminder sub-system (the F2 key from the menu).
- If you answer 'N' Easy Access will not define the reminder files and will
- not display the calendar upon start-up.
- |27
- This affects the time displayed in the upper right hand corner of the
- screen. Answering 'N' here will leave the clock in military time
- (1:00 pm = 13:00). (A 'Y' here will display 1:00 pm as 1:00).
- |215
- This is the file name to store this persons reminders in. If you wish
- everyone to share the same file this should have 'MSREM' in it. If you
- want everyone to have a separate file for reminders give each person a
- different name here. It usually works well to use there Sign On for the
- name of their reminder file.
-
- |10
- This tells the program whether or not different people will be using this
- computer and if you want them to sign on. If you answer 'Y' to this
- question only those people set up in the USER file will be allowed access
- to the menu system.
-
- If you are answering 'Y' for the first time the computer will set up a
- default sign on for you. The sign on is '*' and the password is
- 'tengware'. This sign on allows access to all parts of the menu system
- but is cumbersome to use because it automatically logs you off after
- doing anything on the system. You should go into the USER file and
- set yourself up with a different sign on as soon as you can. You should
- also change the password for the '*' sign on.
- |9
- This is the background color for inputs, you should make this a different
- color than the menu background color otherwise you will not be able to see
- how much space the computer allows for individual inputs.
- |8
- This is the screen background color, be careful, if you make this the
- same as any of the other color values you may not be able to see some
- of the information on your screen.
- |7
- The help lines at the bottom of the screen appear in this color.
- |6
- This is the color the text of the menu appears in, if your background
- color is the same as your menu color you will not be able to see your
- menus.
- |5
- The menu borders will appear in this color. Use the chart at the top of
- the screen to decide which number to use.
- |4
- The system heading, date, and time will appear in this color. Use the
- color chart at the top of the screen to decide which number to use.
- |3
- This is the path or directory MS.COM is in. If this is incorrect strange
- things can happen. If MS.COM is in the directory C:\UTIL\MENUS then you
- would put UTIL\MENUS here. If you ran MS.COM while in the correct dir-
- ectory it should have the correct value here if this is a first time set up.
- |2
- This is the drive this program resides on. This should already have
- the correct value here, the only reason you may need to change it is
- if you have copied 'SMCFG.DAT' from another drive.
- |1
- This is the System Heading, it will appear at the top of all menus. You
- might put your name or your companies name here.
- |0
- This is the System Password, this password will be required whenever you
- wish to modify either the configuration file or any menus.
-
- If for some reason you forget this password the only way to get access to
- the configuration and menu setup files is to erase 'SMCFG.DAT', this will
- force you to set up the configuration again.
- |72
- The computer has just displayed the last time the programs on the current
- menu were run and who ran them (if the user file is active).
-
- Hit the Enter key to return to the menu
- |112
- The computer has just displayed any reminders that are applicable for
- today, hit the Enter key & you will enter the menu system.
- |20
- The computer was not able to find the menu system configuration file.
-
- If you are setting up the menus for the first time this is normal, just
- enter 'Y' then hit the Enter key.
-
- If you are not setting this up for the first time, something has gone
- wrong. The following are the usual reasons this happens.
-
- You erased 'MSCFG.DAT'.
-
- You entered an incorrect path or disk when you originally set up the
- configuration file.
-
- You copied MS.COM to another directory but forgot the configuration file.
-
-
- If any of these are the case the easiest thing to do is just let the
- program re-define it then go back & erase the old file. If you do not
- wish to re-define it type 'N' then hit the Enter key, this program will
- exit back to DOS.
- |106
- The computer stops here to see if you like what you have done, if you do
- just hit the Enter key, if you don't you have 2 choices, hit F1 until
- you are at the part you don't like then change it, or hit the F2 key
- and start over from scratch.
- |105
- How much lead time do you need ? Personally I need at least a week to
- get something for my wife's birthday, so I enter 7, for 7 days warning.
- |104
- What is this reminder for ? A doctors appointment, your wedding
- anniversary, or what ? Enter a message that explains it.
- |103
- What type of reminder is this, something that happens every year or
- is this a one time shot ? The computer expects one of the following
- characters: 1 - One time only then delete the reminder
- (like a doctors appointment)
- W - You need to be reminded every week
- (you always forget to go to work on Monday)
- M - Once a month
- (pay your mortgage)
- Q - Once every 3 months
- (quarterly taxes are due)
- S - Semi annually
- (I don't know, think of something)
- A - Annually
- (once a year, your wedding anniversary)
- R - Remind you until you delete it
- (call your mother, this will come up every day until
- you have told the computer it can quit bugging you)
- |102
- This is the date you want to be reminded of, ex: you do not want to
- forget your wedding anniversary, it is on 9/13/87, you would enter
- 91387 then hit the enter key, the computer will display 09/13/87.
-
- If you have brought up the wrong reminder hit the F1 key, it will take
- you back to the previous input.
- |101
- If you want to change or delete a reminder that is listed on the screen
- enter the number that appears in this column on the line the reminder
- is on, then hit the enter key, the computer will display the reminder
- and allow you to change it.
-
- If you wish to add a new reminder just hit the enter key !
- |99
- If you wish to see the reminders for today just hit the enter key,
- otherwise hit the F1 key and you can add, modify, or delete reminders.
- |70
- Enter the letter of the option you wish to run, ex:
-
- A. Flight Simulator
- B. Manage Your Money
- C. PC-Tools
- D. SMC Basic
-
- Let's say you want to run PC-Tools, you would type a 'C' then hit the
- enter key. The menu would then run PC-Tools for you.
-
- Function keys: F1 - Displays this message (HELP)
- F2 - Takes you to the reminder / calendar system
- F3 - Display when the programs on this menu were last run
- F4 - Logs off the current user
- F5 - Allows you to modify the current menu
- F6 - Allows you to change the configuration
- F7 - Displays a system usage report
- F8 - Allows you to add / modify the User File
- F9 - Returns to previous menu
- F10- Exits to DOS
- |14
- If you answer 'Y' to this question the computer will expect you
- to hit the ENTER key after each input.
-
- If you answer 'N' the computer will accept your input as soon as
- you have filled up the field you are inputting. This means that
- if you are at the menu and you type the letter 'A' to go to
- option 'A', the computer will immedietly run the program without
- forcing you to hit the ENTER key first.
-
- |1001
- This screen is displayed once a day and whenever you wish to change the
- configuration for the system.
-
- You may distribute and use this program in un-modified form if it is
- given without charge. Distributing this program in modified form or
- for profit is expressly forbidden.
-
- If you would like this screen to be replaced with one that displays your
- company logo hit the F1 key after exiting this help screen.
-
- If this is your first time running the Easy Access Menu System just
- hit return, and remember that F1 = HELP wherever you are.
- |1002
- Any customization requested will not eliminate this screen, but it can
- replace the first screen with your company logo.
-
- Customized versions are yours to distribute as you wish as long as no
- money is transferred in the process and no modifications are made by
- anyone other than TengWare Inc.
