  11.          PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
  12.  
  13.               THE BRIDGE TERMINUS(c) is a SHELL utility for ARC,
  14.          LHARC, PAK, and PKZIP archivers. THE BRIDGE features easy to use
  15.          flat archive menu driven compression and extraction routines.
  16.          It effectively deals with existing archives that have included
  17.          path information and allows pathname inclusion during compress
  18.          operations by toggled insertion of user defined custom parameters.
  19.          It's ideal for the everyday user who is interested in 'getting
  20.          the job done' . It is not necessary to have ALL of the archiver
  21.          programs that are suppported by the BRIDGE. Users may select
  22.          the archiver of their choice and all BRIDGE operations, i.e.
  23.          extract, compress, SFX creation, filtered directory displays,
  24.          etc. will then be directed to the selected type. TERMINUS
  25.          accepts custom parameters and allows for user tailoring of most
  26.          operations. Hands-free toggled virus detection is provided for
  27.          both compress and extraction operations. McAfee's VIRUSCAN
  28.          program is called up to scan all files extracted and those files
  29.          which have been tagged for compression. THE BRIDGE uses an easy
  30.          system of flexible defaults which are auto-configured when
  31.          the program is first run to help speed up program installation.
  32.          A path pick list is used to store frequently selected paths and
  33.          provide the user with quick selection of source and target
  34.          directories.

  36.               Full extract submenu functions, i.e. tag, view, test etc. , are
  37.          offered for SDNet/Works! archive files(files with the SDN extension)
  38.          when the selected archive type is set to PAK.
  39.  
  40.               THE BRIDGE was designed to run from a hard disk but will
  41.          work satisfactorily if installed on a high capacity floppy. It
  42.          caters to the low-end of the video standard spectrum  by
  43.          offering compatibility with IBM MDA monochrome, IBM CGA Color
  44.          and those systems that utilize the IBM CGA standard but employ
  45.          a money saving green, amber or white monochrome display device.
  46.          TERMINUS may be worked from the keyboard or by a Microsoft
  47.          compatibile mouse.

  49.               This program does not attempt to incorporate every possible
  50.          archive option offered by PKZIP, PAK, LHARC, or ARC. Instead,
  51.          it offers a modest selection of menu powered options that can be used
  52.          with ease in today's computer and telecommunication environments which
  53.          demand user competence in the areas of file compression, extraction
  54.          and computer virus infection prevention.

  78.          ***** QUICK INSTALL:

  80.          The BRIDGE TERMINUS v2.1A files are NOT COMPATIBLE with BRIDGE v1.0A
  81.          Therefore, if you have used v1.0A in the past please DELETE ALL v1.0A
  82.          files including the CFG and PCK extension files. Do this before you
  83.          proceed with the installation procedure.

  85.          The BRIDGE TERMINUS(c) is a SHELL and needs the following programs
  86.          for FULL access to ALL functions(see note):

  88.                                PC/MS DOS V2.11 - 4.X
  89.                VIRUSCAN(tm) 6.3vXX or higher by McAfee Associates
  90.                           PKZIP(tm) v1.1X  by PKWARE, INC.
  91.                     PAK v2.51 or higher by NoGate Consulting
  92.                      LHA212 or higher by Haruyasu Yoshizaki
  93.                     ARC602 or higher by Systems Enhancements

  95.          Make sure you have the following files from each(* see below *) of the
  96.          above in the same subdirectory for hard disk installation or on the
  97.          same (* see note *) floppy for quick start and access to ALL TERMINUS
  98.          functions:(NOTE: Only one type of archiver is needed if you do not
  99.          anticipate using the remaining other types that are supported.)

  101.               PKZIP(tm) files needed are  : PKZIP.EXE; PKUNZIP.EXE;
  102.                                             ZIP2EXE.EXE; PKZIPFIX.EXE

  124.             **  FLOPPY START:

  126.             Start BRIDGE TERMINUS by typing each line followed by <ENTER>:

  133.             ** HARD DISK START:

  135.             Assuming you have placed the required files on DRIVE #C in a
  136.             subdirectory named TERMINUS you may start TERMINUS by typing
  137.             each line followed by <ENTER>
  138.

  144.             Change the line C: to D: or whatever the drive letter designation
  145.             you installed TERMINUS on. Change the line cd\terminus to
  146.             cd\whatever where 'whatever' is the subdirectory where you placed
  147.             the TERMINUS programs.
  148.  
  149.          ** NOTE #1:
  150.  
  151.          Floppy installation in a system without a hard drive or if you boot
  152.          off a floppy from drive #A(start your system by placing your DOS
  153.          system disk in drive #A) requires that you MUST place COMMAND.COM
  154.          on the TERMINUS disk and that this disk must be placed in the BOOT
  155.          drive. Systems with 720K, 1.4MEG, or 1.2MEG BOOT drives will be able
  156.          to place all of the above files on one disk. Systems with 360K BOOT
  157.          drives and no hard drive will not be able to run THE BRIDGE TERMINUS
  158.          satisfactorily and without sacrifice of certain options.

  161.          ** NOTE #2:
  162.  
  163.          Running TERMINUS from a hard disk does not require that all needed
  164.          files be placed in the SAME subdirectory. Each archiver MAY have its
  165.          own subdirectory and this flexibility is provided in the default table
  166.          to help identify where the needed files are located at.
  167.  
  168.          ** NOTE #3:
  169.  
  170.          It is not necessary to have ALL the archiver programs supported by
  171.          the BRIDGE TERMINUS. The minimum requirement is all the needed files
  172.          for just ONE archiver. Run the BRIDGE after installing TERMINUS and
  173.          all other needed files. Press F5-CHANGE DEFAULTS while you are in the
  174.          main menu. Change the STARTUP ARCHIVE TYPE to the archive type which
  175.          you intend to use with the BRIDGE. All BRIDGE operations will then
  176.          be directed to that archive type.

  181.               Please take the time to read the INSTALLATION procedures found
  182.          in BRT.DOC . The TERMINUS is error trapped for MISSING program
  183.          files(PAK.EXE, SCAN.EXE, etc.) and will refuse to perform functions
  184.          associated with the required files if they don't exist in the DEFAULT
  185.          specified subdirectories. REMEMBER: TERMINUS is not a stand alone
  186.          utility, it is a SHELL for PKZIP, PAK, VIRUSCAN, LHA212, and
  187.          ARC602.

  189.               The first time you run BRT21A.EXE make sure you go no further
  190.          than the MAIN MENU before you press F5 and make the needed additions
  191.          or corrections to the DEFAULT TABLE.

  194.               IF you have IBM CGA C80 mode compatibility(you can run programs
  195.          which require color 80 column text IBM CGA mode) but utilize a money
  196.          saving green, amber, white etc. monochrome display, start TERMINUS
  197.          like this:

  199.                        A> BRT21A.EXE cga255  (press return)
  200.  
  201.          Use lower case letters for cga255. This will eliminate window
  202.          background colors and adjust certain other textcolors so you may be
  203.          able to SEE all menu selects, prompts, etc. The mouse will still
  204.          function if you have one. NOTE: TRUE IBM MDA monochrome display
  205.          cards are auto-detected and there is no need for the extra parameter
  206.          when starting TERMINUS.

  209.               Version 2.1A has TWO HELP keys, F10 which is displayed
  210.          in the lower function menu bar and F1. Each key produces the same
  211.          result.
