- Swiss Army View 1.1 (c) 1989,1990 Steven C. Lee
-
- ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
-
- Swiss Army View (SAV.EXE) is designed to aid in the
- management of archive files in either ARC or ZIP format. SAV
- requires that you also have either PKPAK.EXE and PKUNPAK.EXE or
- PKZIP.EXE and PKUNZIP.EXE by Phil Katz. The latest version of
- Swiss Army View will always be available on:
-
- The ST BBS
- Birmingham, Alabama
- (205) 836-9311
- 300/1200/2400-8-N-1
-
- Swiss Army View is the VIEW component of Swiss Army Shell, a
- ShareWare program. SAV is distributed free, and is included with
- Swiss Army Shell.
-
- I would like to pay special thanks to Basil Copeland. His
- AZD10 from Compuserve's IBMSYS forum supplied the zip and arc
- header structures and scanning routines. I was able to use them
- with very little modification, and they seem to be fast and
- reliable.
-
- SAV will run on color or monochrome adapters. Hercules
- adapters must be in text mode for SAV to work properly. SAV is
- limited to 100 files per archive. I will be happy to provide
- registered users of Swiss Army Shell with a customized version
- with higher limits.
-
- Swiss Army View has added Mouse support as well as file list
- capability starting with version 0.9. Files in the archive may
- be tagged for manipulation by pointing and clicking the left
- mouse button. You may toggle the tag status of multiple files by
- holding the left button and dragging the mouse.
-
- File List capability comes in two forms. You may place the
- cursor on a file and press either L or C to read the contents.
- Pressing L will call the LIST program specified in SAS.CFG (may
- be set by using Swiss Army Shell Alt-S command or running
- SASCFG.EXE). Pressing C will use the PKPUNPAK and PKUNZIP -cm
- option to extract the file to the screen with MORE prompting.

- Swiss Army View Keyboard Commands
- ---------------------------------
-
- Up Arrow - Moves the cursor up one file.
-
- Down Arrow - Moves the cursor down one file.
-
- T - Tags the file under the cursor.
-
- U - Untags the file under the cursor.
-
- Q or Esc - Quits Swiss Army View.
-
- A - Brings up the Archive Menu. The Choices are
- described below:
-
-
- Extract Tagged Files - Extracts the tagged files to the directory
- specified in the window provided. The
- current path will be supplied as a
- default, but may be backspaced over and
- replaced.
-
- UnArc Entire Archive - Extracts all files in the archive to the
- directory specified in the window
- provided.
-
- Delete Tagged Files - Deletes the tagged files from the archive.
- You will be asked to confirm that you want
- to do this.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- List File Under
- Cursor - Extracts the file under the cursor to a
- temporary file, then lists it using the
- LIST program specified in Swiss Army
- Shell's configuration file. If SAS.CFG is
- not found, it will default to Vern Buerg's
- LIST.COM.
-
- Console File Under
- Cursor - Extracts the file under the cursor to the
- console with MORE prompting using PKUNPAK
- and PKUNZIP's -cm option. This is much
- faster than listing.
-
- Exit SAV - Primarily intended for mouse users. Exits
- SAV in the current directory.
-
-
- Mouse Usage
- -----------
- Swiss Army View will make use of a mouse providing the mouse
- driver has been previously loaded. Moving the mouse up and down
- will move the cursor. Pressing the left button will tag the file
- under the cursor, or untag it if it is already tagged. Multiple
- files may be tagged or untagged by holding the left button while
- moving the cursor.
- When the cursor reaches the bottom or top of a page, further
- movement will cause another page to be displayed. Pressing the
- right button will pop the Archive Menu up. Menu items may be
- selected by placing the menu bar on the desired item and pressing
- the left button. When in a menu or dialog window, the right
- button acts as an escape.
-
- Directories may be entered as either relative or full paths.
-
-
- Swiss Army View calls PKPAK/PKUNPAK or PKZIP/PKUNZIP to
- perform the extract and delete functions. The documentation for
- these programs should be reviewed for details on their operation.
- PKPAK.EXE, PKPAK.EXE, PKZIP.EXE, and PKUNZIP.EXE must be in a
- directory which is in the current PATH for SAV to find them.
- Make sure the PATH statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file includes
- this directory.
-
-
- Swiss Army View may be invoked from the DOS command line in the
- following manner:
-
- sav [/m] filename.ext<CR>
-
- where filename.ext is the .ARC or .ZIP file to be viewed. The
- .ARC or .ZIP file extension is required.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- The optional "/m" switch may be specified if you want the
- monochrome color scheme. It must be the FIRST argument on the
- command line. If you are using a color adapter with a composite
- monochrome monitor you may prefer this black and white mode to
- the default colors. SAV will automatically detect a monochrome
- adapter. Hercules adapters must be in text mode for SAV to work
- properly.
-
- When started, Swiss Army View looks for the Swiss Army Shell
- configuration file, SAS.CFG. If SAS.CFG is found, SAV will read
- it and use the color scheme configured for Swiss Army Shell's
- Files Window.
-
- You are encouraged to share Swiss Army View with others. If
- you like this program I encourage you to try Swiss Army Shell, a
- full featured file and archive management program that is
- distributed as ShareWare. Swiss Army Shell allows you to tag and
- copy, delete, move, archive and extract files and directories.
-
- I may be contacted via EMail on the following systems:
-
- The ST BBS (Steve Lee)
- Birmingham, AL
- (205)836-9311
- 300/1200/2400-8-N-1
-
- Compuserve EasyPlex (71076,1216)
-
- Don't leave a CompuServe Forum message because I just can't
- keep up with the board. The ST BBS is best since I am on that
- board frequently. If you need to contact me on voice, my phone
- number is in the doc file for Swiss Army Shell and is also listed
- with directory assistance in Trussville, Alabama.
