  2.     DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  4.     Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5.     before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6.     using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  7.     differ on details -- some request registration while others
  8.     require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  9.     registration, you get anything from the simple right to
  10.     continue using the software to an updated program with
  11.     printed manual.

  13.     Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial
  14.     software, and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a
  15.     few specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors
  16.     are accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors,
  17.     and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases,
  18.     there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is
  19.     in the method of distribution. The author specifically grants
  20.     the right to copy and distribute the software, either to all
  21.     and sundry or to a specific group. For example, some authors
  22.     require written permission before a commercial disk vendor
  23.     may copy their Shareware.

  25.     Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software.
  26.     You should find software that suits your needs and pocket,
  27.     whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system
  28.     makes fitting your needs easier, because you can try before
  29.     you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low
  30.     also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if
  31.     you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  33.     DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT

  35.     Users of ActaeOn must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  37.     "ActaeOn is supplied as is. The author disclaims all
  38.     warranties, expressed or implied, including, without
  39.     limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness
  40.     for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages,
  41.     direct or consequential, which may result from the use of
  42.     ActaeOn."

  44.     ActaeOn is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  45.     to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
  46.     friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  47.     another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is
  48.     to provide personal computer users with quality software
  49.     without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
  50.     programmers to continue to develop new products. If you find
  51.     this program useful and find that you are using ActaeOn and
  52.     continue to use ActaeOn after a reasonable trial period, you
  53.     must make a registration payment of $39.95 (+$4 S/H) to
  54.     Shareable Software International (See ORDER.FRM). The $39.95
  55.     registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  56.     computer at any one time. You must treat this software just
  57.     like a book. An example is that this software may be used by
  58.     any number of people and may be freely moved from one
  59.     computer location to another, so long as there is no
  60.     possibility of it being used at one location while it's being
  61.     used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
  62.     different people at the same time.

  64.     Commercial users of ActaeOn must register and pay for their
  65.     copies of ActaeOn within 30 days of first use or their
  66.     license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made
  67.     by contacting Shareable Software International.

  69.     Anyone distributing ActaeOn for any kind of remuneration must
  70.     first contact Jon Clempner at the address below for
  71.     authorization. This authorization will be automatically
  72.     granted to distributors recognized by the Association of
  73.     Shareware Authors - UK (ASA-UK) or the Association of
  74.     Shareware Professionals (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines
  75.     for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin
  76.     offering ActaeOn immediately (However Jon Clempner must still
  77.     be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date
  78.     with the latest version of ActaeOn.).

  80.     You are encouraged to pass a copy of ActaeOn along to your
  81.     friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register
  82.     their copy if they find that they can use it. All registered
  83.     users will receive a copy of the latest version of the
  84.     ActaeOn system.
