  3.          This file contains information on the use of  the  mouse  with 
  4.          the DS program.  All the information is repeated in the User's
  5.          Manual.   It is  broken  out  seperately  here so  that  users  
  6.          already familiar with the program  do not  need  to  read  the
  7.          entire user's manual to find  out how the mouse works with the
  8.          program.

  11.          MOUSE OPERATIONS
  12.  
  13.               The  DS  program can make use of a 2-button mouse in  the 
  14.          following  manner.   One button is known as the  ACTION BUTTON 
  15.          and the other is known as the OPTION/ESC BUTTON.   By  default 
  16.          the ACTION BUTTON is the Left Button and the OPTION/ESC Button 
  17.          is  the Right Button but these assignments can be  changed  by 
  18.          the user (along with other mouse parameters)  by making use of 
  19.          the "Ctrl-S" (Set Mouse) option.

  21.               The ACTION BUTTON,  true to its name,  is the button that 
  22.          accomplishes  most of the actions within the program.   It  is 
  23.          the button used to Tag, Untag, and Execute files, plus scroll, 
  24.          change  and enter directories.   It is also the button used to 
  25.          select options from menus. 
  26.  
  27.               The OPTION/ESC Button is used to activate the popup menus 
  28.          which  provide  the user an alternate means of activating  the 
  29.          program  options they would normally select via the  keyboard.  
  30.          Once an option has been selected the OPTION/ESC Button becomes 
  31.          an ESC Button and provides the user a means of terminating the 
  32.          option they have selected.

  34.               A fuller discription of  Mouse Button  specifics  can  be 
  35.          found in Appendix A below.

  41.              The  set mouse defaults allows the user to adjust  various 
  42.          parameters of the mouse.  The mouse can be turned on and  off, 
  43.          have its appearance, color, and blink status changed, have the 
  44.          Action  and  Option/Esc   Buttons  switched,  and  adjust  the 
  45.          directory  speed parameter.   Once the user has selected  this 
  46.          option,  the suboption selections are activated by  depressing 
  47.          the appropriatly highlighted keys.   Exiting this routine will 
  48.          update the startup default parameters.

  50.          USING KEYBOARD:
  51.  
  52.               Depress the "CONTROL" and "s" keys together, then depress 
  53.          the desired suboption keys "m", "t", "f", "c", "b", "+" and/or 
  54.          "-".  Press ESC to terminate the option.

  56.          USING MOUSE:
  57.          
  58.               Click the OPTION/ESC Button to bring up  the  popup  menu 
  59.          then  select  the "Mouse"  suboption on the SETUP  submenu  by 
  60.          clicking on it with the Action Button.  All the  mouse default 
  61.          suboptions  remain  as  discussed  above,   simply  click  the 
  62.          Action Button while the mouse is on top of the desired option.

  69.              The mouse toggle option will toggle the activation of  the 
  70.          mouse.  If the mouse is active,  this  option  will  hide  and 
  71.          deactivate the mouse.   If the mouse is inactive,  this option 
  72.          will  activate  and show the mouse providing the mouse  driver 
  73.          routine has been installed.

  103.          NOTES FOR MOUSE "ACTION BUTTON" AREAS

  105.          #1  - (TOP BORDER - AVAILABLE DRIVES)
  106.  
  107.             "Clicking"  on a  drive letter will switch the  appropriate
  108.             screen display to the indicated drive.  Hot spots for drive
  109.             activation  are the drive letter or the blank character  on
  110.             either side of the drive letter (ie: 3 characters per drive
  111.             letter).

  113.             "Dragging"  from the file box (with 1 or more files tagged)
  114.             and  "Releasing"   on  a  drive  letter  will  initiate   a
  115.             "Copy/Move"   popup  window routine to either copy or  move
  116.             (default is copy)  tagged files to the default directory on
  117.             the indicated drive.

  120.          #2  - (TOP BORDER - RIGHT OF AVAILABLE DRIVES)
  121.  
  122.             "Clicking"   in   this  area  "recenters"    (really   just
  123.             highlights)   the  tree display on the  current  directory.
  124.             This enables the user to re-highlight the current directory
  125.             after  the tree has been scrolled off to other  directories
  126.             for other purposes.

  128.          #3  - (TOP BORDER - LAST COLUMN)
  129.  
  130.             This  area  will display a drive letter if the user  is  in
  131.             single-screen mode but had previously been in split  screen
  132.             mode.  The drive letter of the other screen (hidden screen)
  133.             will  be displayed.  "Clicking"  on the drive  letter  will
  134.             "flip" the full screen display to the other screen.

  136.          #4  - (UPPER LEFT BORDER)
  137.  
  138.             This area enables the user to scroll up the directory tree.
  139.             While   the  Action  Button  is  Depressed  in  this   area
  140.             successive directories further up the tree are highlighted.
  141.  
  142.             The  scrolling  speed  can  be  controlled  by  the   user.
  143.             Depressing  the  "CONTROL"   key while in  this  area  will
  144.             display  a "Delay"  value.  The larger the delay value  the
  145.             slower the scrolling speed.  Press "ALT"  key to accelerate
  146.             the  scrolling speed  (decreases the  delay  value).  Press
  147.             "LEFT  SHIFT"  to slow the scrolling speed  (increases  the
  148.             delay value).  Once the desired scrolling speed is obtained
  149.             press "CONTROL" and "RIGHT SHIFT"   together  to  save  the
  150.             scrolling speed as a startup default parameter.

  152.          #5  - (LOWER LEFT BORDER)
  153.  
  154.             This  area  enables the user to scroll down  the  directory
  155.             tree.   While the  Action Button is Depressed in this  area
  156.             successive   directories   further  down   the   tree   are
  157.             highlighted.

  159.             The scrolling speed is controlled as in area #4.

  161.          #6  - (DIRECTORY BOX)
  162.  
  163.             "Releasing"  the Action Button "ON"  a  directory NAME will
  164.             "ENTER"  the  specified  directory and list files  in  that
  165.             directory.

  167.             "Releasing"  the Action Button on a directory LINE (not the
  168.             name) will just highlight the directory but not enter it.
  169.  
  170.             "Dragging"  from the file box (with 1 or more files tagged)
  171.             and  "Releasing"   ON  a directory  NAME  will  initiate  a
  172.             "Copy/Move"   popup window routine to either copy  or  move
  173.             (default is copy)  tagged files to the indicated  directory
  174.             AND  "ENTER"  the destination directory upon completion  of
  175.             the option.

  177.             "Dragging"  from the file box (with 1 or more files tagged)
  178.             and  "Releasing"  ON a directory LINE (not the name)   will
  179.             initiate a "Copy/Move"  popup window routine to either copy
  180.             or  move  (default is copy)  tagged files to the  indicated
  181.             directory   BUT   remain  in  the  source  directory   upon
  182.             completion of the option.

  184.          #7  - (TOP CENTER DIVIDER)

  186.             "Clicking" on the top row of the center divider will change
  187.             the  tree  display to highlight (but not enter)   the  root
  188.             directory.

  190.          #8  - (UPPER CENTER DIVIDER)

  192.             "Clicking"  in this area  of the center divider will scroll
  193.             up the tree display one-half of the display screen.

  195.          #9  - (LOWER CENTER DIVIDER)

  197.             "Clicking"  in this area  of the center divider will scroll
  198.             down the tree display one-half of the display screen.

  202.             "Clicking"  on  the bottom  row of the center divider  will
  203.             change  the tree display to  highlight (but not enter)  the
  204.             last directory.

  208.             "Clicking"  on a filename will toggle the "TAGGING" of that
  209.             file.

  211.             "Pressing" on one filename (start file) and "Releasing"  on
  212.             a  different  filename (end file)  will toggle ALL  of  the
  213.             files between the start and end files inclusive.
  214.  
  215.             "Double Clicking" on a filename (not the .ext) will execute
  216.             the  specified  file (Keyboard "X"  command).   You  cannot
  217.             specify command line parameters with this option.
  218.  
  219.             "Double  Clicking"  on a filename extension (including  the
  220.             ".")   will  execute the specified file  (Keyboard  "Alt-X"
  221.             command) overlaying the DS program to conserve memory.  You
  222.             cannot specify command line parameters with this option.
  223.  
  224.             "Clicking"   in the columns where the Left and  Right  File
  225.             Indicator  triangles  reside will toggle the "File  Follow"
  226.             feature.    The  file  follow feature is defaulted  to  OFF
  227.             whereby   moving  the  mouse  in  the  file  box  does  not
  228.             automatically move the file indicator at the same time.  Be
  229.             aware that when the file follow feature is  active  if  the
  230.             user hits any of the arrow keys or the home or end keys the
  231.             file follow feature  will be  deactivated  (ie: turned off)
  232.             otherwise the user would be unable to move the  "indicated"
  233.             file.

  235.             "Pressing"  the Action Button ANYWHERE in the File Box WITH
  236.             1 OR MORE FILES TAGGED  and  "Dragging and Releasing"   the
  237.             mouse in the Available Drives area (#1),  or the  Directory
  238.             Box  (#6),  or the  other  File Box (#11) of a split-screen
  239.             display will initiate a "Copy/Move" popup window routine to
  240.             either copy or move (default is copy)  tagged files to  the
  241.             indicated drive or directory.

  244.          #12 - (UPPER RIGHT BORDER)
  245.  
  246.             "Clicking"  in this area when an "up arrow"  appears in the
  247.             top row will "page up"  the file listing to a previous page
  248.             of files in the current directory.

  250.          #13 - (LOWER RIGHT BORDER)

  252.             "Clicking" in this area when an "down arrow" appears in the
  253.             bottom  row will "page down"  the file listing to the  next
  254.             page of files in the current directory.

  258.             "Clicking"  is this area will TOGGLE the "Directory Follow"
  259.             feature.   The directory follow feature is defaulted to  ON
  260.             (except for DESQ) whereby moving the mouse in the directory
  261.             box  with  the Action Button depressed  will  automatically
  262.             move the directory highlighter at the same time.
