  2.                        WAYS TO USE DIGITIZED SOUND FILES

  6.         Here are some ideas of ways to use digitized sound files:
  7.  
  8.      ** BATCH FILES
  9.         Incorporate sound in batch files.  My autoexec is fairly lengthy,
  10.         performing incremental backups, disk optimization and virus checking
  11.         automatically each day.  By sprinkling different sound files
  12.         throughout the AUTOEXEC process, I can go work on other tasks
  13.         in the office, while listening to the progress the system is making.
  14.  
  15.      ** SLIDE SHOWS
  16.         Incorporate sound with your slide shows.  When using VPIC to
  17.         display GIF, PCX, MAC and other picture files from a batch file,
  18.         you can run VPIC with the /r switch to regain control.  This will
  19.         cause VPIC to exit while leaving the picture still displayed on the
  20.         screen, then you can play an appropriate sound file.

  22.      ** PART OF A TUTORIAL 
  23.         Use soundfiles as part of a tutorial series.  Display a screen of
  24.         pictures or charts, while playing a descriptive message.
  25.  
  26.      ** LECTURE RECORDINGS
  27.         To preserve lectures, or recordings of any other noteworthy
  28.         event you wish to preserve.
  29.  
  30.      ** EMAIL VOICE MESSAGES
  31.         Include voice messages and sound clips with your EMAIL messages.
  32.  
  33.      ** EVENT WARNINGS
  34.         To alert you that selected events that may be occurring on your
  35.         system, such as the modification or deletion of certain files,
  36.         or the running of a particular program.
  37.  
  38.      ** CALENDAR REMINDERS
  39.         To alert you that a particular date or time event has occurred.
  40.         You can pre-program Sputter to remind you of any date/time that
  41.         will occur in the future, and have any appropriate sound clip
  42.         played.

  44.      ** SPEAKER BEEP REPLACEMENT
  45.         To replace the run-of-the-mill BEEP with something more fitting
  46.         for where the system is in use.  I like to use different animal
  47.         sounds, like frogs croaking, or chicks peeping.  In an office
  48.         environment, you might prefer some soothing tones, or a short
  49.         piece of clasical music.
  50.  
  51.      ** ASSISTANCE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN
  52.         For children younger than age 7 or 8, that haven't started to read
  53.         yet, but still enjoy playing computer games, adding some verbal
  54.         directions to a menuing system can make all the difference.
  55.         I've added simple directions for inserting floppy disks,
  56.         calibrating the joystick, or indicating which keys to hit to
  57.         start and quit the game.

  59.      ** JUST PLAIN FUN!
  60.         Make your system come to life!  You can setup your favorite sound
  61.         effects or one-liners from movies to be played automatically
  62.         whenever you perform any of your normal system functions.
