- System Requirements
- -------------------
-
- Playbwc will run on any IBM AT, PS/2, /286, /386 or 100% compatibles
- equipped with either a Hercules (or compatible) video card or any
- PS/2 (or compatible) color graphics card. It requires Dos 3.3 or
- higher to run. Playbwc will automatically detect a monochrome or a
- color card and adjust the display accordingly. However, it will not
- work with a monochrome monitor connected to a color graphics card.
-
- Playbwc and Bwc now support MS-DOS 5.0
-
-
- Starting Up
- -----------
-
- Located on your distribution disk or within the zip file is
- PLAYBWC.EXE, which is the executable file. To begin, type 'playbwc'
- (it is not case sensitive) followed by the RETURN or ENTER key. The
- Playbwc screen should appear along with any .snd sound files.
-
- Please add the Playbwc directory into your system path. Consult
- your DOS manual on how to do this. Example:
- PATH=C:;C:\dos\;c:\playbwc;
-
- After the Playbwc screen appears, selections can be changed with the
- arrow keys, the space bar, or the backspace key. Selections can be
- made by pressing the RETURN or ENTER key and waiting for Playbwc to
- execute your command.
-
- The vertical highlight bar can be changed with the arrow keys, the
- Page Up/Down keys or by pressing the first letter of your desired
- file, directory or your user-defined selection. Files can be selected
- by pressing the RETURN or ENTER key and waiting for Playbwc to
- execute your command.
-
- Please note there is also the option to start up directly in BWC please
- see the BWC.DOC file for further information on how to do this.
-
-
- Predefining File Types
- ----------------------
-
- Playbwc uses a file called playbwc.dat which contains the parameters
- for the sound file as well as a brief description of the sound file
- that you can comment. Please note this file is NOT required. It is
- important to note that Playbwc is merely a shell and does not do the
- actual playing of the file. It calls the BWC editing system and feed
- it the data needed to play a sound file.
-
- ----------sample-----begin--------------
-
- gameove.snd /P11000 ; Game Over Man
- trumpets.snd /P21000 ; Trumpets
-
- ----------sample----end-----------------
-
- As you can see we have already defined the two sounds included in this
- package.
-
- The first column is the name of the sound file
- The second column is the speed of playback
- The third column is the description you see on screen
-
- Prior to defining a sound file name all the sound files on the directory
- will show up. To get the playback speed hit the keys 1-4 which will
- correspond to the following speeds:
-
- 1 - /P5500
- 2 - /P7333
- 3 - /P11000
- 4 - /P22000
-
- Most files will fall in either the '/P11000' or the '/P22000' range.
-
-
- A Brief Look At the Menus
- -------------------------
-
- You have several options from the main Playbwc menu and they are
- explained in brief below.

- INTSPEAKER: This will play the current sound file through your
- internal PC speaker.
- SBLASTER: This will play the current sound file through your
- Soundblaster (tm) or Adlib (tm) card.

- port. Choose this if you decide to build a JDAC interface
- (see JDAC.DOC for information on how to build this)
-
- In conjunction with the above commands the number keys 1-4 will active
- the highlighted device and play the sound file based on the following
- speeds.
-
- 1 - 5500 samples per second
- 2 - 7333 samples per second
- 3 - 11000 samples per second
- 4 - 22000 samples per second
-
- REREAD: If you are using floppy disks and decide to put a new disk
- in the drive use this option to read the new data onto
- the screen.
