  27. time your serial number will be validated, and thereafter you should be able
  28. to call in with all the access rights you are intitled to.

  71.      A quick tour of the Metagraphics Remote Bulletin Board System (RBBS)
  72.  
  73. This bulletin will attempt to answer your most common questions about the
  74. Metagraphics RBBS.
  75.  
  76. 0) How can I get access?
  77.  
  78.      a) Normally we expect users to have their registration card on file
  79.         when they logon on for the first time and request access from the
  80.         SYSOP.  We offer temporary access, as a courtesy, to new users for
  81.         up to one week if we do not have your card on file. If you find
  82.         that access has been denied after one week, you will need to call
  83.         our technical hot line at 408.438.6750 to get assistance as we
  84.         do not automatically reinstate access when the card comes in.
  85.         There is more on access levels in bulletin 5.
  86.  
  87. 1) What can I use it for ?
  88.  
  89. MORE: [Y],N,NS?                                a) You can read bulletins from us.
  90.      These will tell you when new releases are available, new products are
  91.      announced, new phone numbers, and other things that will quench your
  92.      thirst for immediate knowledge.
  93.  
  94.      b) You can send and receive mail.
  95.      You can send mail to folks (usually us), and then receive a reply at a
  96.      later date.
  97.  
  98.      c) You can download files from us.
  99.      This way you can get sample programs from us or programs that other
  100.      users have contributed.
  101.  
  102.      d) You can upload files to us.
  103.      You can send us samples of code you are having problems with, or share
  104.      the benifit of your experience and talent with others by giving your
  105.      software away.
  106.  
  107.      e) You can figure out how to use the commands of the RBBS.
  108.      On line help is available from all menus by pressing H for H)elp or ?.

  110. 2) How do I read your bulletins ?

  112.      a) When you login
  113.      If bulletins exist that you have not yet read, you will be asked;
  114.      "READ new bulletins?" and you say Y for Yes. 
  115.  
  116.      b) Anytime
  117.      From the Main menu (the one you see after you log in) select B for
  118.      B)ulletins under the Notes heading. Then pick the number of the 
  119.      bulletin you wish to read
  120.  
  121. 3) How do I use the mail system ?
  122.  
  123.      a) Sending mail
  124.      From the main menu select E)nter under the Mail heading. Enter the
  125.      name of the person you are sending it to (SYSOP to send to us) and a 
  126.      'subject'. Now enter the 'security' (who can read and/or remove this
  127.      message ), usually R) for receiver will do. Now enter your message.
  128.      An empty line terminates it. Now select S)ave to save you message.
  129.  
  130.      b) Receiving mail
  131.      After you have logged on, the system will tell you either;
  132.           Mail for YOU --or--  Sorry, no mail for 'your name'
  133. MORE: [Y],N,NS?                                If you have mail it can be read by selecting the R)ead command from
  134.      the main menu under the heading Mail. You will be asked what message
  135.      number you wish to read, or you can read them all, or you can read the
  136.      ones entered since you last logged in by typing '*'.

  138. 4) How do I get files from you ?
  139.  
  140.      a) The file menu
  141.      By selecting F)iles from the main menu under the heading 'other menus'
  142.      you will be in the file menu section. By selecting D)ownload from this
  143.      menu you will be propted for a file name to download. If you don't
  144.      already know the name of the file you want, you must use the L)ist
  145.      files available command in the files menu under the heading File
  146.      Information.
  147.  
  148.      b) The directory
  149.      When you use the L)ist command from the Files menu, you will be asked
  150.      'What Directories', if you press enter, you will see a menu of all the
  151.      directories. Each directory is numbered. You can use the number to see
  152.      what files are in each directory. It is not necessary to know the
  153.      directory number of a file to download it, this 'directory' is only an
  154.      RBBS menu, all download files are really kept in one DOS directory on

  163. FontWINDOW is now shipping. FontWINDOW is our bitmapped font editor and is
  164. supplied with over 200 public domain fonts in the MetaWINDOW font format.

  167. We now have a full IBM character set font available for the EGA resolution.
  168. The name of the file is 'fulsys16.fnt' and does not need a password.

  171. For All Fortran users of MetaWindow, since we have discontinued explicit
  172. support in our distribution diskettes, there is a new facility avail-
  173. able from Applied Science Assoc. that  is a Fortran to Microsoft C
  174. interface environment. It will support MetaWINDOW, Baby Driver(from
  175. Ithaca Street Software) and Graphics Menu(from Island Systems). To

  204.                          UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS

  206. The file subsystem permits you to move files between your computer and the 
  207. Metagraphics remote system.  Downloading refers to moving files from the 
  208. remote system to your computer, and uploading is moving files from your 
  209. computer to Metagraphics.
  210.  
  211. The transfer of data can either be done in ASCII for text files, or XMODEM 
  212. protocol for binary files.  XMODEM protocol is contained in PC-TALK.III and 
  213. CROSSTALK Version 3.3 (or later).
  214.  
  215. To list the names of the files that are available on the disks for 
  216. downloading to your system, the L)ist command should be entered from the 
  217. Files Menu.  The full names of the files will be listed along with a short 
  218. description of each file.  Usually there is a document file that accompanies 
  219. most of the program items on the system.  These document files usually have 
  220. an extension of DOC.

  252.   Registered FontWINDOW users may be granted Level 2 access to the remote 
  253. system.

  255.   If you are a registered FontWINDOW user, "E)nter" a message to SYSOP
  256. requesting access Level 2 (please include your FontWINDOW diskette
  257. serial number for reference).  Your access level will be updated in the
  258. next 48 hours. Level 2 users may also leave problem report messages,
  259. and may upload sample programs for Tech Support help (note - security on
  260. the remote system cannot be guaranteed; you should not upload any
  261. confidential material).

  277.         features and action windows demonstrating drawing abilities.
