- NGARG New Generation APL Research Group General Information

- NGARG - New Generation APL Research Group - is an international group of
- people interested in theoretic aspects of the programming language APL. The
- group was founded in fall 1984 and currently has members in Europe and
- Australia. Legally, the group is organized as a society according to Swiss
- law.

- The purpose of the group is to provide a forum for exchanging ideas about
- design, implementation and application of future versions of APL. Current
- topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- APL's relation to other modern languages such as Smalltalk, LISP and
- functional programming.

- Unification of APL's objects and its environment. Collection of objects,
- ``hierarchic environments''.

- Efficiency and rationalization of implementations. APL on non von Neumann
- computer architectures, APL compilers.

- User friendly environments using current and future technologies such as
- raster scan displays and mice.

- Ideas and results are sporadically published in informal
- memos, which are distributed to the members and other interested parties.
- Research results might be published in a more formal way.
