  3. CHICAGO (APRIL 6) BUSINESS WIRE - Stac Electronics Monday announced at
  4. COMDEX/Spring '92 that a new version of its award-winning data
  5. compression software is being designed for OS/2 2.0, IBM's 32-bit
  6. operating system for 38SX PCs and above.

  8. Stacker for OS/2 will allow users to start their systems with OS/2 or
  9. DOS and access their existing Stacker drives without any modification
  10. while running either operating system.  It will also be 100 percent
  11. compatible with Stac's line of coprocessor boards for maximum speed and
  12. compression ratios.

  14. The OS/2 version of Stacker, like the entire Stacker line of data
  15. compression software and coprocessor boards, doubles a computer's
  16. storage capacity with the Stacker LZS technology, which is
  17. instantaneous, continuous and totally transparent to the user.

  19. "Stac has received strong demand from its installed base for an OS/2
  20. version of Stacker," said Gary Clow, Stac's president.  "We have been
  21. quietly engaged in developing Stacker for OS/2 for more than a year now,
  22. and this summer we will supply a beta release to the 300,000 OS/2 2.0
  23. beta testers."

  25. Clow said Stacker for OS/2 will be available later this year through
  26. Stac OEMs the company's existing retail channels or ordered directly
  27. from Stac by calling 800/522-7822.  All Stacker products come with free
  28. technical support.

  30. Stacker OS/2 will join the Stacker line of products that now includes
  31. Stacker 2.0 software for laptop, notebook and portable computers, and
  32. Stacker AT/16 and Stacker MC/16 compression coprocessor boards for
  33. desktop systems.

  35. OS/2 2.0 offers true multitasking and will provide the broadest
  36. selections of applications in the industry, running DOS, Windows and 16-
  37. and 32-bit OS/2 applications unchanged, according to IBM.
