  9.                    DESCRIPTION OF PRESENTATION MANAGER DRIVER

  11.         Contained in this package are  the  Presentation  Manager display
  12.         driver files:
  13.  
  14.              For Microsoft OS/2 V1.1:
  15.                   PM11-54B.DLL   800x600 16-color
  16.  
  17.              For Microsoft OS/2 V1.2, 1.21 or IBM OS/2 V1.3:
  18.                   PM12-54B.DLL   800x600 16-color
  19.                   PM12-55B.DLL   1024x768 16-color

  21.              In addition there is a common base driver:
  22.                   PM$BASE.SYS
  23.  
  24.         To  use a driver, a monitor  capable  of displaying the  selected
  25.         resolution  must  be  installed  and  the  video  card  must   be
  26.         configured    for   that  monitor.  Consult  your   manuals   for
  27.         configuration instructions.

  31.                             INSTALLATION OF PM DRIVER

  34.         IMPORTANT:   Before  you begin the installation using either  one
  35.         of the following methods, make  sure that OS/2  and  Presentation
  36.         Manager have been installed properly and configured for IBM VGA.

  39.                              AUTOMATIC INSTALLATION
  40.                              ----------------------

  43.         Boot   up the system in OS/2. Insert this diskette into a  floppy
  44.         diskette drive,  say A:,  and type the following commands:
  45.

  47.                   PMINST
  48.  
  49.         The installation program will guide you through the  installation
  50.         of  your  system  and  copy  the  necessary  files.  After    the
  51.         installation, reboot the system.

  54.                                MANUAL INSTALLATION
  55.                                -------------------

  58.         Installation  involves copying the driver files on to  your  OS/2
  59.                               README.PM                     Page 2

  62.         boot disk and modifying the CONFIG.SYS file. Follow these steps:
  63.  
  64.         1) Create a directory called VGADLL on the boot disk. Insert this
  65.            diskette  into a floppy diskette drive.  The  following  steps
  66.            assume boot disk C: and floppy diskette drive A:.
  67.  
  68.         2) Copy the base driver to the VGADLL directory.
  69.  
  70.            Example:  COPY A:PM$BASE.SYS C:\VGADLL
  71.  
  72.         3) Copy  the  appropriate  Presentation  driver  to  the   VGADLL
  73.            directory as DISPLAY.DLL.
  74.  
  75.            Example:  COPY A:PM12-54B.DLL C:\VGADLL\DISPLAY.DLL
  76.  
  77.         4) Using  a  text editor, edit the file CONFIG.SYS  in  the  root
  78.            directory  of the boot disk and add the following line to  the
  79.            end of the file.

  81.            DEVICE=C:\VGADLL\PM$BASE.SYS
  82.  
  83.         5) Locate the line beginning with the word 'LIBPATH' in the  file
  84.            CONFIG.SYS.  LIBPATH specifies the search path used by OS/2 to
  85.            locate   the  Presentation  Manager's  dynamic  link   library
  86.            modules. Modify the path that the directory VGADLL becomes the
  87.            first in the list.

  89.            Example:  LIBPATH=C:\VGADLL;C:\OS2\DLL;C:\;C:\MYDLLL;
  90.  
  91.         6) Save  and exit the new config.sys file and reboot  the  system
  92.            now.

  96.                                  TROUBLESHOOTING

  98.         If   your  display  in the graphics mode is  not  readable,  your
  99.         display  adapter  may  need to be  configured  for  your  current
  100.         monitor.
