-
- To Our Customers,
-
- Thank you for your interest in While Your Were Out and Caliente
- International. Our name says it all: We're HOT! To prove it, you've just
- installed While You Were Out 3.0(WYWO), the Windows 3.0/3.1 office messaging
- system.
-
- Inspired by the universal telephone message note, you already know how to
- use WYWO. Installed on a MS DOS 3.1 or higher compatible network, users can
- send and receive messages which look just like their familiar phone
- messages. They're password protected and encrypted for privacy. WYWO
- notifies you of new messages. Messages are organized into New and Old
- message lists. Once read, new messages are automatically saved to the old
- message list. The contents of a message can be saved either to a
- printer, file, or the clipboard for pasting into another Windows 3.0
- application. WYWO has extensive on-line help.

-
- Running the WSETUP.EXE program
- ------------------------------
-
- Upon closing this document, the install utility will automatically run
- WSETUP.EXE. WSETUP.EXE is the administration program for WYWO. It is used
- to set up all of the user names, user groups and message types for the WYWO
- system. It is also used for clearing user's passwords should they forget
- them. WSETUP creates two files called WYWO.DAT and WMSGTYPE.DAT in the
- directory dedicated for the WYWO system. With WSETUP, you will be able to
- add, modify or delete users, groups and message types that are in the
- WYWO.DAT and WMSGTYPE.DAT files of the WYWO directory. To toggle between
- User Name and Message Type modes click on the User Names button or the
- Message Types button.
-
- To add a user, click on the New button and fill in the name of the new user.
- Click on OK to enter the name into the system. You can modify the user's
- name or clear the user's password by either clicking on the Modify button
- after clicking on the user to be modified, or just double-click on the user
- name itself. You can then change the user's name or clear the user's
- password. To delete a user, select the users name and click on the Delete
- button. Click on the Save button when all users have been added, or click
- on Cancel to ignore any new changes.
-
- Once users are defined, you can organize them into logical groups to
- represent departments, floors, workgroups, etc. Groups are identified in
- the user name list by square brackets, ex: [Everyone]. By default all
- users belong to the Everyone Group, allowing users to send and receive
- messages to everyone installed in WYWO. Users have the option of setting a
- default user group by clicking the Options button in WYWO on their
- workstations.
-
- Message Types can be added, modified, and deleted in the same manner as the
- User Names. You are now ready to run WYWO.
-
- IMPORTANT
- *********
-
- After installing WYWO on your network, make sure the WYWO directory has
- Shareable Read rights while sub-directories have Shareable Read/Write rights
- for everyone using WYWO.
-
-
- Running the WYWO.EXE program
- ----------------------------
-
- WYWO.EXE is the main WYWO program for sending and retrieving WYWO messages.
- Once the WYWO sheet is on the screen you are ready to send and receive
- telephone messages.
-
- To activate WYWO, simply double click the WYWO icon either on the Windows
- desktop or Program Manager. The WYWO icon looks like a pink While You Were
- Out sheet.
-
- With version 3.0, WYWO utilizes both mouse buttons. The left button
- operates as it normally would in any Windows application. It selects
- things: buttons, fields, etc. Clicking the right mouse button will pop-up
- a menu displaying functionality associated certain objects within a WYWO
- window.
-
- For example, click the right button over the To field when reading a
- message and WYWO will display the Forward menu. Select Forward item with
- the left button, WYWO allows you to select the name of another person to
- send the message. Hit the Enter key and the message is sent.
-
- Likewise, click the WYWO sheet itself, a menu with functions associated with
- an entire message is displayed.
-
- By clicking the Help button, you can get help on using any of WYWO's
- functions. This is the on-line manual.
-
- Version 3.0 now has on Options screen which is available by clicking the
- Options button from the message create sheet of WYWO. From this screen you
- can set the following:
-
- Default user: The person normally using a particular workstation.
-
- Default user group: Group the default user will normally send and
- receive messages.
-
- New message notification time: How often WYWO will search for new
- message or not at all.
-
- Notification window handling: When notified of new messages, should
- the user be required to respond to
- the notification dialog window or let
- the window stay in the background.
-
- Message save options: When saving a message to the printer, file,
- or clipboard, save the message field
- identifiers such as To, From, Date, etc. with
- the message or not.
-
- If you would like WYWO to be loaded each time you run windows so it always
- checks for incoming messages, add WYWO.EXE to the Load= line of the WIN.INI
- file.
-
- To specify a specific default username when running WYWO, pass the name
- on the command line for the WYWO icon or from the Program Manager. This
- name will override the default user name specified in the Options screen.
-
-
- Running the WMONITOR.EXE Program
- --------------------------------
-
- WMONITOR.EXE acts as a system message rack/message board similar to the
- message racks used on many secretaries desks. It is great for those users
- with or without a network that want to monitor all new WYWO messages that
- come in at a central location. WMONITOR will check for all new messages in
- the system at 30-second intervals and display the names of users with new
- messages. The users can then read their messages from WMONITOR by
- double-clicking on their name or selecting their name and clicking the
- Read Messages button. WMONITOR can be used in two modes: One for displaying
- new message names as a message board whick will show the number of new
- messages as small WYWO sheets following the users name, or by displaying a
- message rack with a picture of the number of WYWO sheets sitting in their
- message "slot".
-
- WMONITOR will only display users who belong to the group specified in the
- Options screen of WYWO installed on the same workstation. To monitor other
- groups, simply access WYWO and click the Options button to select another
- default group.
