  2. R2LAN is compatible with LANtastic NOS v4.xx.

  5. Product Overview
  6. R2LAN provides full-featured remote control services for NetBIOS or IPX LANs. 
  7. It can also be used in conjunction with Remote2, also from DCA/Crosstalk, in 
  8. order to access workstations on a LAN from a separate site, although this 
  9. specific configuration has not been tested by Artisoft.  Both text and graphics 
  10. mode screens can be viewed across the LAN, but remote mouse control is not 
  11. supported.  The host program supports only one viewer, so group 
  12. viewing/broadcasting is not possible, except through daisy chaining.

  15. Test Equipment Configuration
  16. The following machines were used for R2LAN testing.  All machines have VGA 
  17. adapters installed and use Artisoft AE-2 NICs.  Testing was completed using 
  18. LANtastic NOS v4.0 with AILANBIO.EXE and AE2.EXE v2.03.  Machines running 
  19. as LANtastic peer servers are designated by (S).

  25. Product Installation Notes
  26. An installation routine is provided and is fairly simple and self explanatory.  
  27. It copies the program and data files to the desired hard disk directory and sets 
  28. up initial user and host names.

  30. Product Execution Notes
  31. The R2LAN host requires 70K of RAM overhead, but may be loaded into upper 
  32. memory with DOS 5.0, if enough is available.  Once loaded, the host will only 
  33. accept connections from guests who it has on list of authorized users, which 
  34. requires some overhead during setup time if there are many users who will 
  35. access the host.  User passwords can also be set, providing further security.  
  36. The R2LAN manager program (R2LMGR.EXE) is provided for defining new user 
  37. accounts and customizing the host setup parameters after installation.  The 
  38. guest program, R2LCALL.EXE, runs as a DOS application or a 155K TSR.  It 
  39. supports both text and graphics viewing, but updates of VGA graphics images is 
  40. much slower than other products in this class.  Many other services are also 
  41. provided by the guest program, including file transfer, host screen snapshots, 
  42. host keyboard enable/disable, and host video enable/disable.

  44. Compatibility Notes
  45. No incompatibilities with LANtastic NOS were discovered, however, when a 
  46. Windows 3.0 screen is viewed by R2LCALL the host's screen becomes 
  47. corrupted as the mouse is moved around.  This does not seem to affect the 
  48. operation of Windows or Windows applications, but is a somewhat troublesome 
  49. side effect of R2LAN.
