  6. You can use LANtastic NOS V4.00 with Microsoft Windows V3.0 and above on
  7. both servers and workstations, in any mode including Enhanced 386.  You
  8. can enjoy the ease of use and flexibility of the graphical user interface,
  9. with all the great features for which LANtastic is famous.

  27. Dedicated Or Peer-To-Peer Servers

  29. With the ALONE program you can run a server in dedicated mode, then switch
  30. back to peer-to-peer mode at a moment s notice.  In dedicated mode, your
  31. computer will service the network with unsurpassed performance.  By
  32. side-stepping DOS, ALONE allows your computer to perform more simultaneous
  33. user requests with no loss in performance.  If you need to use that server
  34. for local functions, simply exit the ALONE program and the computer will
  35. function as a LANtastic peer-to-peer server.

  38. A New LANcache

  40. LANcache set a new standard for network caching software by caching both
  41. reads and writes.  And LANcache's background writing operations allow a
  42. server to perform user requests as foreground tasks while writing to disk
  43. in the background.  The new LANcache is even faster and more efficient.
  44. No caching software works better with DOS and LANtastic than LANcache.
  45. And the new LANcache is designed to be fully compatible with Microsoft
  46. Windows.  When LANcache detects that Windows is running, it will release
  47. its own memory to Windows to allow better performance.

  53. network -- servers, workstations, shared resources and user accounts --

  61. remove LANtastic Network Operating System from memory without rebooting.

  66. If you have a large task to perform, it makes sense to use the fastest
  67. computer on the network to do the processing.  The NET RUN command lets
  68. you remotely issue commands to a network server.  This means you can use
  69. your fastest servers for RAM and hardware intensive tasks such as database
  70. sorts, compiles and backups.  While this is going on you can still use
  71. your local workstation for remote processing.

  76. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) connected to your
  77. server, LANtastic will now work in unison with it to safeguard your
  78. network.  If the UPS signals a server that a shutdown is imminent,
  79. LANtastic will warn all the network users, give them time to log off, then
  80. close all the open network files so that no one loses any work.  If the power 
  81. returns, LANtastic Network Operating System will abort the shutdown and 
  82. tell the users there's nothing to worry about.  (Requires support
  83. software.)  The list of supported UPS manufacturers continues to grow.

  85. Para Systems, Inc. (800-238-7272), Tripp Lite (312-329-1777) and Sola

  91. Now you can create a single username such as ACCT* and assign it a
  92. password and access rights.  Users can then log in with any username that
  93. has the ACCT prefix, such as ACCT-LINDA.  This can save much time during
  94. setup since you need to create only one user account for a group of users.
  95. The server is still secure, however, since you can require a password to
  96. use the wildcard username.

  98. Unlimited Version Of LANtastic/AI

  100. You can now purchase an unlimited version of LANtastic/AI so you can add
  101. as many nodes to your network as you wish.  This can save you hundreds of
  102. dollars over the price of purchasing individual licenses.  You get the all
  103. drivers with the unlimited version that you get with the per node version
  104. of LANtastic/AI.

  107. LANtastic/AI Drivers

  109. LANtastic/AI now offers increased support for SMC-compatible ARCNET
  110. adapters.  Our SMCARC.EXE driver supports Standard Microsystems adapters
  111. PC120, PC130, PC130E, PC220, PC260, PC270E and PC500 (short board).  The
  112. new driver, ARCNET.EXE, interfaces with all SMC- compatible ARCNET
  113. adapters.  There is also a new 3COM 3C503 driver.  (This driver functions
  114. in memory mapped mode only.)
