- Subject: NAMEVIEW New Features - version 2.00
-
- The main change in version 2.00 is the user interface. Instead of
- entering your download file name on the command line when NAMEVIEW is started,
- files are chosen from a Smart Point & Shoot file list. This also gives you the
- capability of reading multiple download files without having to start NAMEVIEW
- over again for each one.
-
- Other new features are:
-
- Mark File Option - lets you "mark" a file as having been read if you are
- not ready to delete it yet.
-
- Book Mark Feature - lets you place a "Book Mark" in a download file, so
- you can continue reading from where you stopped at a later time.
-
- AutoLoad Feature - (for registered users) automatically loads a download
- file with a name reflecting the current date.
-
- ╔════════════════════════╗
- ║ Press PgDn to continue ║
- ╚════════════════════════╝
-
- Reverse Read Feature - lets you review up to 10 previously seen messages.
-
- Print + Form Feed Feature - prints a message followed by a form feed, so
- you end up with one message per page
-
- Active Parameter Switching - Program parameters can now be changed as you
- are reading messages.
-
- Right-most spaces and Null entries are now automatically stripped from your
- search list entries, eliminating many set-up problems.
-
- Version 2.01 has additional enhancements, primarily for registered users:
-
- Custom Message Screen Colors - your own favorite foreground and background
- colors can be set for message reading.
-
- Print Device Customizing - you can print to any LPT device which your
- computer will recognize.

- Subject: NAMEVIEW Quick Tutorial (message 1)
-
- Hi, and thanks for trying NAMEVIEW! Just to make sure that you can find
- your way around with the program commands (I'm sure you haven't memorized the
- DOC file yet) here is a quick introduction to the most commonly used commands.
-
- The information line at the bottom of your screen will keep you
- constantly informed about what the program is finding and doing.
-
- If any message is longer than 24 lines, the right-most portion of the
- information line will show this as "Pg 1 of X" where "X" will be the total
- number of screen pages it will take to view all of the long message. ───┐
- │
- Anytime you want to view additional pages of the same message, press │
- PgDn or the right cursor arrow. Press PgUp or the left cursor arrow │
- to view previous pages of the same message. │

-
- You made it! Notice that the page display on the information line now
- correctly tells you that you are currently viewing Pg 2 of 10. ────────┐
- │
- │
- Any time you aren't on page 1, you can press PgUp or the left │
- cursor arrow to view previous pages if you desire. Don't worry │
- about going too far in either direction, as NAMEVIEW will not let │
- you go past either end of the message. │
- │
- Incidentally, if you have an enhanced keyboard, and your BIOS │
- will support it's use, the grey versions of the cursor and paging │
- keys will work equally as well. │

- Try using PgUp now, or... │

- The information line also has an area which shows you which keys are
- active. Any of the keys shown in this area will activate program features.

- Function keys 1 - 10 are used to save the onscreen message to your sort
- files. A custom file name, and optionally, a path, can be assigned to each
- function key (see documentation for details).
- ─┬─
- │
- │ Saving to a sort file is just like printing the onscreen
- │ message. Regardless of the length of the message, it will be
- │ written to the sort filename assigned to the function key

- │ message you are on.
- │
- │ Any time you save the onscreen message to a sort file, it is

- Another handy key is the "H"elp key. Pressing "H" at any time will bring

- ─┬─
- │ You'll find one Help screen which will cover the Action keys,

- regardless of which "screen page" of the message you are on.
- ─┬─
- │
- │ Using "P" to print will not add any page eject codes to the

- Most of NAMEVIEW's operating parameters can be changed even while you are
- reading messages. These include Messages Read (ALL or those containing Search
- Words), Upper Case Check (ON or OFF), Line Wrap Check (ON or OFF), and Sound
- (ON or OFF).
-
- Pressing any of the parameter changing letters will sound a short BEEP
- (except for the Sound parameter) if you are viewing messages so you will know
- that the parameter change has taken effect.
-
- Don't forget that the Messages Read parameter requires a lower case "m" to
- activate from the message screen.

- Now it's time to cover the "N"ext message command. When you are done
- reading, printing, saving, etc. the current onscreen message, and are ready
- to view the next message, press "N". Pressing ENTER or the DOWN arrow will
- also call the next message.
-
- Since this tutorial is written in the form of a message, and 10 pages is

- "Book Marking" is another handy new NAMEVIEW feature. If you need to stop
- reading a message file before you have finished, you can insert a "Book Mark"
- and return to it at any time.
-
- Book Marked files are identified by the exclamation point (!) which is
- added to their file name (automatically by NAMEVIEW). This will show up in
- your File listing so you can easily tell which files you have not finished.
-
- When you select a "Book Marked" file from the file list, NAMEVIEW
- automatically sets the "Find Book Mark" parameter to YES. When you resume
- reading, the next message you will see will be the one you would have seen next
- if you had not discontinued your last session with the file.

- Reverse Read is another new feature with this version. Pressing "R" or
- the Up Arrow will bring back the previously seen message to the screen. Up to
- 10 prior messages can be recalled.
- ─┬─
- │ I recommend that you wait to try this feature until you
- │ are reading the sample messages which follow the tutorial
- │ and demo messages. Otherwise, you will have to wait for
- │ the original tutorial message to be searched before you

-
- The final Information Line command to be covered is the Menu Return,
- called with an Upper Case "M". This command allows you to return to the File
- Menu Option at any time while you are reading messages.
-
- Returning to the File Menu Option allows you to Delete or Mark the
- current file, or to load another file to read. You can also Exit NAMEVIEW by
- pressing <Esc>.
- ─┬─
- │ You will be asked to verify this command before your reading
- │ will be terminated.

-
-
-
- From now on you will be on your own! You will not see any more "Press
- PgDn to continue" prompts. The next few messages are more typical of what you
- will normally see when using NAMEVIEW, so you can see how easy it becomes to
- find EVERY name in your search list while reading messages.
-
- Thanks again for trying NAMEVIEW.

- Subject: NAMEVIEW Demonstration message (Cox Names)
-
- This is a test file containing all of the names in my search list. Due to
- the number of "hits" in this message, and the time it takes to do all of the
- reverse video printing, it will print onscreen relatively slowly. You should
- never see an actual message print onscreen as slow as this one does. The names
- being searched are:
-
- Archer, Atwood, Barnes, Basey, Beaver, Belleville, Bucher, Bundy, Busel,
- Bushel, Carson, Clare, Clause, Coppes, Cox, Culpepper, Davis, Dille, Donter,
- Drake, Dugan, Ellis, Ferrell, Fortney, Goshorn, Haskett, Hebert, Heinrich,

- Schroeder, Shatluck, Simons, Spivey, Stonebraker, Striass, Tanner, Taylor,
- Thomas, Warner, Weldie, White, Wilson, Winslow, and Family Roots.
-
- Don't forget that PgDn, PgUp, or the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys are used to
- view additional "screen pages" of long messages (such as this one)!
-
- This is the same name list in reverse order to check for sorting: Winslow,
- Wilson, White, Weldie, Warner, Thomas, Taylor, Tanner, Striass, Stonebraker,
- Spivey, Simons, Shatluck, Schroeder, Schneider, Sawyer, Ruley, Rich, Rice,
- Reighley, Pritchard, Price, Points, Pearson, Paul, Passmore, Page, North,

- Culpepper, Cox, Coppes, Clause, Clare, Carson, Bushel, Busel, Bundy, Bucher,
- Belleville, Beaver, Basey, Barnes, Atwood, and Archer.
-
- This is the end of the test file with Cox names. As you can see, if a name
