- INSTRUCTIONS FOR NOVEMBER 1990 DISK OF THE MONTH

- NOTE: The following macros (files with the extension .WPM) must be copied
- into the directory where your other macro files are kept. See "Location of
- Auxiliary Files" in the manual for more information. WARNING! If you already
- have macros with the same name, you must rename the macros found on this disk
- before they are copied onto your hard drive or your original macros will be
- overwritten. Some of these files are styles (files with the extension .STY).
- For 5.1, copy the style files into the directory specified in Setup (Shift-
- F1), (6) Location of Files, (5) Style Files. For 5.0, copy the style files
- into your List Files (F5) directory. All other document files should be copied
- to your List Files (F5) directory.

- Included on this disk are the following files that work for 5.0 and 5.1 where
- specified:

- Note: The following styles, CHAPTER.STY, TEXT.STY and QUOTE.STY can be
- saved under one filename as a style library if desired. Do this by
- pressing Style (Alt-F8), retrieving all three styles, then pressing (6)
- Save, typing book.sty (or your choice) and pressing (Enter). To retrieve
- the style library, press Style (Alt-F8), (7) Retrieve, type book.sty and
- press (Enter). The three styles will be listed. (See "Writing with
- Style," November '90, p89.)

- CHAPTER.STY (5.1/5.0 style) - This style contains a graphic line and a large
- font to create a chapter heading. To use the style, press Style (Alt-F8),
- (7) Retrieve, type chapter.sty, press (Enter), highlight the style and
- press (1) On in 5.1, or (1) Select in 5.0. The cursor will be positioned
- below the word "Chapter." Type the chapter number, press Flush Right
- (Alt-F6) and type the chapter title. Pressing (Enter) will turn the style
- off and position the cursor three lines below the chapter heading. To
- edit, press Styles (Alt-F8), highlight the style, press (4) Edit and (4)
- Codes. When the desired changes are made, press Exit (F7) twice, (6)
- Save, type chapter.sty, press (Enter) and (Y) Yes to replace. (See
- "Writing with Style," November '90, p89.)

- TEXT.STY (5.1/5.0 style) - This style contains formatting for typing the text
- of a document or book. Included are a left and right margin code, a 12-
- point font, tab set, justification off and page numbering. To use the
- style, press Style (Alt-F8), (7) Retrieve, type text.sty and press
- (Enter). Highlight the style and press (1) On in 5.1, or (1) Select in
- 5.0. Press (Tab) to indent the first line of the paragraph and begin
- typing your text. To exit the style, press (Right Arrow) once. To edit,
- press Styles (Alt-F8), highlight the style, press (4) Edit and (4) Codes.
- When the desired changes are made, press Exit (F7) twice, (6) Save, type
- text.sty, press (Enter) and (Y) Yes to replace. (See "Writing with
- Style," November '90, p89.)

- QUOTE.STY (5.1/5.0 style) - This style contains codes to format quotes.
- Included are a left and right margin code, a 10-point font and two hard
- returns to add spacing before and after the quote. To use the style,
- press Style (Alt-F8), (7) Retrieve, type quote.sty and press (Enter).
- Highlight the style and press (1) On in 5.1 or (1) Select in 5.0.
- Pressing (Enter) will turn the style off and position the cursor for
- typing normal text. To edit, press Styles (Alt-F8), highlight the style,
- press (4) Edit and (4) Codes. When the desired changes are made, press
- Exit (F7) twice, (6) Save, type quote.sty, press (Enter) and (Y) Yes to
- replace. (See "Writing with Style," November '90, p89.)

- ENV.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro is specially for laser printers. It formats
- and prints an envelope for your addresses. It blocks and copies the
- address, then creates a new page above your letter. Next, the macro adds
- correct formatting codes, prints the page and deletes the new page. To
- edit the macro, press (Home), Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), type env and press
- (Enter) twice. You may want to replace the Courier 10cpi font with a
- font of your choice. When finished, press Exit (F7). To invoke the macro,
- place your cursor at the beginning of the address, press Macro (Alt-F10),
- type env and press (Enter). (See "Easy Envelope Macros," November '90,
- p49.)

- ALTE.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro is for laser printers. It formats and
- prints an envelope for your addresses. It blocks and copies the address
- to the Document 2 screen. The macro then adds correct formatting codes
- and prints the page. Finally, it exits Document 2 and returns the cursor
- to your letter. To edit the macro, press (Home), Macro Define (Ctrl-F10),
- (Alt-E) and (Enter). You may want to replace the Courier 10cpi font with
- a font of your choice. When finished press Exit (F7). To invoke the
- macro, place your cursor at the beginning of the address and press (Alt-

- ENV50.WPM (5.0 macro) - This macro is for laser printers. It formats and
- prints an envelope for your addresses. It blocks and copies the address,

- ALTV.WPM (5.0 macro) - This macro formats and prints an envelope for your
- addresses. It blocks and copies an address to the Document 2 screen. The
- macro then adds the correct formatting codes and prints the page.
- Finally, it exits Document 2 and returns the cursor to your letter. To
- edit the macro, press Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), (Alt-V), (2) Edit and (2)
- Action. You may want to replace the Courier 10cpi font with a font of
- your choice. When finished press Exit (F7) twice. To invoke the macro,
- place your cursor at the beginning of the address and press (Alt-V). (See
- "Easy Envelope Macros," November '90, p49.)

- LINK.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro automates linking or importing a
- spreadsheet. Invoke the macro by pressing Macro (Alt-F10), typing link
- and pressing (Enter). The prompt (1) Import the spreadsheet information
- or (2) Define a link will appear. Press (1) or (2). Next, indicate if the
- spreadsheet should be imported or linked as a 5.1 table or as text. The
- Import or Link menu will appear. You'll be prompted for the filename of
- the spreadsheet you wish to use. Type in the complete pathname of the
- spreadsheet including the extension and press (Enter). Finally, the macro
- will prompt you for the range of cells to import or link. Type in a valid
- range of cells or a range name and press (Enter). At this point, you
- could also press List (F5) for a list of range names from your
- spreadsheet as explained above. The macro will complete the import or
- link for you. (See "The Missing Link," November, '90 p82.)

- ALTF.WPM (5.1 Macro) - In a normal search, lowercase letters match both
- uppercase and lowercase, while uppercase match only uppercase. This means
- you can't search specifically for words that don't have a capital letter.
- By checking for capitalization in the search string, ALTF.WPM will allow
- you to search specifically for words that don't have a capital letter. To
- invoke this macro, move the cursor to the beginning of the text to be
- searched and press (Alt-F). At the Find (def:______) prompt, type in the
- desired word or character and press (Enter). If the search string is not
- found, the macro displays the message, * No Match! *. (See "The Case of
- the Failed Search," November '90 p17.)

- MEMO.WPM (5.0 and 5.1 macro) - This macro formats a memo heading that
- automatically puts in the date. It then uses Tab Align (Ctrl-F6) to align
- the entries. The macro pauses after TO: and FROM:, so you can enter the
- desired information. After typing in the appropriate information after
- TO:, press (Enter) to move to FROM. Do the same after FROM: to move to
- SUBJECT. To invoke this macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type memo and
- press (Enter). (See "Lining Things Up," November '90, p95.)

- ALIGN.WPM (5.0 and 5.1 macro) - This macro allows you to quickly change your
- default Decimal/Align Character. To invoke the macro, press Macro (Alt-
- F10), type align and press (Enter). The macro pauses while you type in
- the new Decimal/Align Character. The macro returns you to your document
- screen, and the Decimal/Align Character is changed until you clear the
- screen. (See "Lining Things Up," November '90, p95.)

- ALTT.WPM (5.0 and 5.1 macro) - This macro automatically changes normal tabs to
- decimal tabs. To invoke this macro, press (Alt-T). (See "Lining Things
- Up," November '90, p95.)

- ALTX.WPM (5.1 format) - This macro will take a word or phrase from your
- document and append it to a list that can be retrieved at any time. To
- add a frequently-used word to the list, place the cursor on that word and
- press (Alt-X). To add a phrase to the list, Block (Alt-F4) the phrase and
- press (Alt-X). To retrieve this list, use the ALTQ.WPM macro described
- below. (See "Phrases For Your Fingertips," November '90, p66.)

- ALTQ.WPM (5.1 format) - This is the companion macro to the ALTX.WPM macro
- described above. When you press (Alt-Q), a box appears containing words
- and phrases marked using the ALTX.WPM macro. To insert a word or phrase
- into your document, press the number beside the word or phrase. It will
- be inserted into your document at the cursor. This macro also has the
- capability of storing a list and retrieving it for later use. To do this,
- press (Alt-Q). To save a list, press Save (F10). To retrieve a list that
- you have used before, press Retrieve (Shift-F10). (See "Phrases For Your
- Fingertips," November '90, p66.)

- VARMEN.WPM (5.1 format) ■ This macro allows you to create a list of
- frequently-used words and phrases. They can then be inserted into your
- document whenever you want. To add a word or phrase to the list, Block
- (Alt-F4) the word or phrase, press Macro (Alt-F10), type varmen and press
- (Enter). A list appears, displaying the letters (variables). Press one
- of the letters, and your text is assigned to that variable. To insert
- that text into a document, invoke VARMEN.WPM. The menu appears, showing
- the contents of each of the variables A-J. To insert the text of a
- variable into your document, press the appropriate letter. The text is
- inserted at the cursor. (See the Side Bar to "Phrases For Your
- Fingertips," November '90, p66.)

- CARD (5.1 file) - This file can only be printed on a postscript printer, or a
- printer that supports rotatable fonts. This document consists of six
- graphic boxes that create a greeting card. Each box can be edited to suit
- your own needs. Because changes in each box is an individual decision,
- steps for editing this document can't be included in this README file.
- Please refer to the article for the needed information. (See "Say It From
- The Heart," November '90, p21.)

- FORM (5.1 file) - These two tables create an office supply request form. To
- retrieve this file, press Retrieve (Shift-F10), type form and press
- (Enter). Next, follow the example in the article to type in your own
- text. Once items, quantities and prices are inserted, place your cursor
- inside the second table and press Columns/Table (Alt-F7), (5) Math and
- (2) Calculate. Quantities and prices will be multiplied and the final
- total inserted. (See "Putting Food On The Table," November '90, p76.)

- SORT.PF (5.1 primary merge file) - This primary merge file merges with a
- secondary file of names, addresses, ZIP codes, phone numbers and birth
- dates to create a tabular list. To merge, press Merge Sort (Ctrl-F9), (1)
- Merge and enter sort.pf as the primary file. Next, enter the name of your
- secondary file. (See "Selective Sorting," October '90 p59.)

- ALTM.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro creates a menu of your own macros, and
- invokes the macro that you select. You may need to edit this file. To do
- so, press (Home), Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), (Alt-M) and (Enter). Replace
- c:\macro with your own macro directory. Press Exit (F7) to save the
- macro. To use the macro, press (Alt-M), highlight the macro you want to
- invoke and press Save (F10). (See "Tips," November '90, p101.)

- CD.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro changes your default directory, then list
- that directory. A menu will appear and you will select the directory you
- want to view. To customize this macro, press Macro Define (Ctrl-F10),
- type cd, (Enter) and (2) Edit. In 5.0, (2) Action. Lines 2 through 6
- create the menu. Delete the directories on lines 3 through 5 and replace
- them with your own. Then on lines 11 through 13 replace c:\... with the
- desired directory. When finished, save the macro and return to the
- document screen by pressing Exit (F7) once in 5.1 and twice in 5.0. To
- use the macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type cd and press (Enter). (See
- "Tips," November '90, p101.)

- QD.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro lists a directory that you select from a
- menu. To customize this macro, press Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), type qd,
- (Enter) and (2) Edit. In 5.0, (2) Action. Lines 2 through 6 create the
- menu. Delete the directories on lines 3 through 5 and replace them with
- your own. Then on lines 11 through 13 replace the "C:\..." with the
- desired directory. When finished, save the macro and return to the
- document screen by pressing Exit (F7) once in 5.1 and twice in 5.0. To
- use the macro, press Macro (Alt-F10), type qd and press (Enter). (See
- "Tips," November '90, p101.)

- ALTR.WPM (5.0/5.1 macro) - This macro retrieves an already used block of text.
- First, press Block (Alt-F4), highlight the desired text and press Move
- (Ctrl-F4), (1) Block and either (1) Move or (2) Copy. Place the cursor
- in the desired position and press (Enter). Now it can be retrieved
- whenever needed by pressing (Alt-R). (See "Tips," November '90, p101.)

- ALTL.WPM (5.1 macro) - This macro selects your dot matrix printer and formats
- your document for labels. First, create a label paper size form. To do
- this, please refer to the article. Also, be sure the Document 2 screen is
- clear before invoking this macro. To edit this macro, press (Home),
- Macro Define (Ctrl-F10), (Alt-L) and (Enter). Delete the "Standard
- Printer" on line 2 and replace it with your own dot matrix printer. When
- finished, press Exit (F7) to save. To use this macro, press (Alt-L).
