- VANCOUVER, CANADA - KEA Systems Ltd. announces a new product in its KEAlink
- series. The series includes KEAlink LAT, KEAlink TCP/IP and KEAlink IPX,
- all of which run under MS-DOS or Windows. KEA's newest product, KEAlink
- NFS, will commence shipping this April.
-
- KEAlink NFS is KEA's implementation of the TCP/IP and Network File System
- protocols allowing PCs on Ethernet or Token Ring networks seamless access
- to DOS applications and files on NFS servers. KEAlink is NDIS compliant
- which permits users to simultaneously link to NFS servers, NDIS compliant
- networks such as Microsoft LAN Manager and, with KEAlink IPX, Novell
- Netware. KEAlink NFS is compatible with MS-Windows thereby providing
- network access under Windows.
-
- KEAlink TCP, licensed separately but also included in KEAlink NFS, is a PC
- implementation of the Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol
- (TCP/IP). Used in conjunction with KEA's emulation products, KEAlink TCP
- provides a full multisession terminal emulation and TCP/IP networking
- solution for the PC.
-
- KEAlink IPX provides a Netware to NDIS protocol conversion. Without losing
- any functionality provided by the Novell network, the user can use other
- protocols such as LAT or TCP/IP to connect to VAX or UNIX hosts. KEAlink
- IPX allows Novell's Netware to run concurrently with DEC's PATHWORKS
- version 4.0.
-
- KEAlink LAT is KEA's licensed implementation of DEC's Local Area Transport
- protocol (LAT). It allows KEAterm or ZSTEM to connect to a VAX via
- Ethernet using the DEC LAT protocol without DECnet-DOS, PCSA, PATHWORKS,
- or a terminal server. When KEAlink LAT is used in conjunction with ZSTEM
- or KEAterm, multiple simultaneous sessions can be maintained.
-
- All KEAlink products fully support NDIS. Therefore, they can be loaded
- together to provide concurrent access to their respective hosts or
- servers. The KEAlink IPX package also includes NDIS drivers for the Novell
- Ethernet cards. Most other manufacturers provide NDIS drivers with their
- Ethernet cards.
-
- KEAlink network products are supported by KEA's VT terminal emulation
- software: ZSTEM 320 and ZSTEM 340 for DOS and KEAterm 420 for Windows.
- --------------------------------------------------------
-
- KEAterm 420, KEA's software emulation of DEC's VT 420 terminal, has all the
- VT 420's characteristics including multiple sessions, multiple pages, true
- double high/double wide characters and true 132 column support. Extensions
- include ISO and attribute mapped colors, VT340 block mode and local edit
- and user definable keyboard mapping. Like the VT420 terminal, KEAterm 420
- is downwardly compatible, emulating the VT320, VT220, VT100, and VT52
- terminals.
-
- KEAterm 420 is a true, Windows-compatible product:
-
- ∙ KEAterm allows connection to multiple VAX or UNIX applications while
- running multiple PC applications at the same time, with each application
- being displayed in its own window.
-
- ∙ Data can be transfered between host and PC applications using copy and
- paste.
-
- ∙ KEAterm can be used as a DDE server to supply or accept data from other
- applications and accept script commands to execute from other
- applications; or as a DDE client to start and control other applications.
-
- ∙ Users choose from pull-down menus in English, French or German--a feature
- of particular benefit to multi-national companies.
-
- Communication and integration features beyond VT emulation include:
-
- ∙ Multi-session NET/l(INT 6B) and INT14 interfaces; Telnet interfaces for
- TCP/IP including Wollongong and KEAlink; and Pathworks/LAT interface.
-
- ∙ Super Kermit and ASCII file transfer protocols.
-
- ∙ User-definable on-screen buttons to which a string of characters, VT
- function, or script can be attached.
-
- ∙ BASIC-like script language with debugger. The script language includes
- logical operations, variables, control structures, DDE support and reading
- and setting of configuration parameters. Users can automate login
- procedures and file transfer, and PC to host integration.
-
- Registered users of KEAterm Version 1, the first VT420 emulation package
- for MS-Windows, are entitled to a free upgrade to Version 2 upon release.
