  1. NEC Technologies, Inc., introduced the ProSpeed 486SX, the industry's first
  2. laptop to offer a large 10.4" thin film transistor (TFT) active matrix LCD
  3. with 800 X 600 pixel resolution.

  5. Featuring 16 shades of grey, the ProSpeed 486SX is a high-resolution
  6. monochrome version of NEC's color laptop (the ProSpeed 486SX/C) introduced
  7. earlier this year. With its unsurpassed active matrix Super VGA display,
  8. the ProSpeed 486SX laptop allows users to see 33 percent more information
  9. on the screen than conventional laptop computers. This allows better
  10. viewing of client presentations, CAD/CAM graphics and scientific drawings,
  11. and greater utilization of multi-window environments.

  13. Powered by Intel's 486SX 20 MHz processing chip, the ProSpeed 486SX laptop
  14. holds more power than a 386/33 MHz computer, and at 16.7 pounds, is the
  15. lightest laptop on the market with a full-size Extended Industry Standard
  16. Architecture (EISA) expansion slot. The built-in, 32-bit EISA expansion
  17. slot provides optimal growth and flexibility for networking, LAN data
  18. analysis and engineering applications.

  37. The ProSpeed 486SX laptop computer has a suggested retail price of $6,999
  38. for the 120 MB hard disk drive configuration, and $7,499 for the 240 MB
  39. hard disk drive version. It is available immediately through NEC's
  40. nationwide network of authorized resellers.
