  1. Central Point Software introduced Central Point Anti-Virus for Windows, a
  2. Windows version of its popular DOS anti-virus program. Central Point
  3. Anti-Virus for Windows provides maximum virus protection by detecting and
  4. cleaning more than 1,000 viruses, including Michelangelo, Jerusalem,
  5. Stoned, Dir2 and Maltese Amoeba. The program also will detect both known
  6. and new stealth viruses. Additional features include Scheduled Scanning,
  7. Automatic Updating and Delete and Wipe options for infected files.

  20. Protection Against Stealth Viruses

  22. Central Point Anti-Virus for Windows detects both known and new stealth
  23. viruses. Stealth viruses are especially dangerous because they conceal
  24. their presence from both users and virus detection software by hiding file
  25. size changes and other modifications to the file. Central Point Anti-Virus
  26. for Windows uses a special low-level technology to identify these and
  27. other stealth techniques.

  29. Scanning Options Simplify Detecting and Cleaning

  31. Central Point Anti-Virus for Windows introduces Scheduled Scanning. The
  32. Scheduler lets users schedule the program to run unattended scans at
  33. regular intervals. When a scheduled scan occurs, Central Point Anti-Virus
  34. will analyze specified drives for viruses. Scheduled Scanning ensures a
  35. high degree of user compliance in detecting and preventing virus infection
  36. before it occurs.

  38. Background Scanning is also available within Central Point Anti-Virus for
  39. Windows. Background Scanning allows users to minimize the program on the
  40. screen, letting it scan for viruses while the user runs other programs in
  41. Windows. When scanning has been completed, a window will appear providing
  42. the statistics of the scan.

  44. Delete and Wipe Options Increase Security

  46. In addition to cleaning infected files, Central Point Anti-Virus for
  47. Windows allows users to optionally delete the infected files, ensuring the
  48. prevention of further infection. Additionally, the option to wipe deleted
  49. files offers users increased security. When this option is selected,
  50. Central Point Anti-Virus for Windows deletes the file and overwrites the
  51. area of the disk where the data used to be with zeros, preventing any part
  52. of the infected file from being undeleted.

  54. Updating the Virus List Automatically

  56. Central Point Anti-Virus for Windows allows users to update both detection
  57. and cleaning capabilities automatically via an external file. By
  58. connecting to either the Central Point Software Bulletin Board or
  59. CompuServe, users can download a new CPAVSCAN.DLL file and its
  60. accompanying WNVIRLST.CPS file and a VIRSIGS.CPS file for the TSRs. This
  61. feature increases the speed and ease with which users can fully update
  62. their virus protection between product upgrades. Corporations with site
  63. licenses can distribute these files to their users electronically via
  64. network servers or company bulletin boards.

  68. Central Point Anti-Virus for Windows has a suggested price of $129 and will
  69. be available from major software distributors and resellers in North
  70. America in March. The cost of a single update is $20 plus shipping. An
  71. optional subscription plan provides customers four consecutive releases
  72. for $59 plus shipping. Customers in the U.S. and Canada can order updates
