  17.      For  _p_p_m, it writes a PseudoColor dump file if there are up to 256 colors
  18.      in the input, and a DirectColor dump file  otherwise.   The  ---dddiiirrreeeccctttcccooolllooorrr
  19.      flag can be used to force a DirectColor dump.
