  38.            DV Tree is 'shareware' written by a computer industry
  39.    professional, and the contents of this disk or archive comprise a
  40.    copyrighted work.  If you continue to use this program after an evaluation
  41.    period of 30 days, you should register with the author.  Information
  42.    regarding how to register is contained the file DVTREE.DOC, and is also
  43.    displayed for you at program startup.  Please note, however, that the
  44.    shareware version of DV Tree is a fully functioning version of the program
  45.    and is not 'crippled' in any way.
  46.            If you wish, you may print and use the ORDER.FRM file to assist
  47.    you in registering.

  52.    follow the installation instructions contained in INSTALL.DOC.

  59.    To print INSTALL.DOC...         type:  copy install.doc prn
  60.    To print DVTREE.DOC....         type:  copy dvtree.doc  prn

  62.    These documents are preformated for print, but they require your printer
  63.    to be set to an 80 column carriage width.  PLEASE ensure that your printer
  64.    will not force a new line prior to the 80th column, especially before
  65.    printing DVTREE.DOC as it is quite long, and we save trees if we only have
  66.    to do this once!  Also, both docs contain high ASCII or 'IBM graphics'
  67.    characters.  For best results, you should therefore print on a printer
  68.    set up to handle these characters.  For a lot of printers, this is
  69.    handled via 'dip switch' settings - if you are unsure whether your printer
  70.    is IBM graphics-capable, please consult your printer manual.

  72.    Also, the printable documents are formatted 56 lines per page with 2 line
  73.    top margins.  If you have a dot-matrix printer, you should manually set
  74.    adjust your top-of-form accordingly.

  78.    To upgrade from DV Tree Version 2:

  80.    1) Copy the files in this archive to your DV Tree directory.
  81.    4) Review NOTES23.DOC.
  82.    5) Review the updated manual - changes since 2.1 may be found by
  83.       doing a text search for 'N2.3'.

  88.    To upgrade from DV Tree Version 1:

  90.    1) Copy the files in this archive to your DV Tree directory, and delete
  91.       any old copy of DVTREE.COM.
  92.    2) Add the TZ-PIF to DESQview via Add a Program if desired.
  93.    3) Change your old PIFs via Change a Program to run DVTREE.EXE instead of
  94.       DVTREE.COM.
  95.    4) Review NOTES23.DOC.
  96.    5) Review the new manual - it has been thoroughly expanded and revised,
  97.       and new commands and features may be found by doing a text search for
  98.       'N2.'.

  100.    Things you should know:
  101.  
  102.          1)  Running version 2 will re-initialize DVTREE.CNF, and the new
  103.    configuration file will quite likely cause DV Tree 1.x to crash unless you
  104.    either delete DVTREE.CNF, or restore the old version of this file before
  105.    running the old version of the program.
  106.  
  107.          2)  The hot-key definitions have been moved to a separate file,
  108.    DVT_HOT0. If you have a very recent version of DV Tree 1.x, you may
  109.    already have hot-key definitions in a file of this name, HOWEVER, DVT_HOT0
  110.    files from 1.x are also not compatible with the new program, so you'll

  116.    have to redefine any hot keys after bringing up the new version.  Your
  117.    F-Key definitions, on the other hand, should be okay.

  119.          3)  DV Tree 2.x contains many major new features, but one capability
  120.    has been lost in this version, that is the ability to run the program in a
  121.    DOS window with Writes Directly to Screen set to Y.  To any of you who
  122.    have used the program in such an environment, I apologize, but the change
  123.    was unavoidable with the implementation of the %A code and the resultant
  124.    need to run the program effectively in small windows.  The new color
  125.    customization feature also would not have been possible without this
  126.    change.

  128.          4)  One of the features DV Tree does not yet have is an internal
  129.    help system.  An example for using a LIST F-Key to display the DVQUICK.REF
  130.    file was given in earlier manuals, but a better way, I think, is the use
  131.    of a DV script to kick off a LIST window with the path to DVQUICK.REF
  132.    either 'hard-coded' in the PIF's parameter line, or keyed in by the script
  133.    after a short timed delay.  The reason this technique is superior is that
  134.    it is available when you're confronted with the very non-intuitive input
  135.    prompt for entering DV Function startup codes.
  136.          A step-by-step example for setting up such a help system is given
  137.    in the manual in the section SETTING UP A HELP SYSTEM FOR DV TREE.

  139.          5)  The ESC key no longer exists split screen (I got tired of
  140.    answering 'No, I do not want to exit split screen', and the [-E keystroke
  141.    combination is almost as fast.)
