- PREFACE
- -------
-
- This document discusses the technical aspects of installing, configuring
- and running RBBS-PC. You should already be familiar with the following
- subjects in order to fully understand the concepts presented in this
- document:
-
- - Modem communications
- - DOS file organization
- - DOS Batch files
-
- Consult your modem owner's manual, and your DOS command and technical
- references for details on these items.
-
- Conventions:
- ------------
- This manual makes extensive use of examples. The following conventions are
- used:
-
- - Items in CAPS are to be entered as shown.
- - Items in lowercase, or surrounded in <.> are "replaceable" parameters.
- - Filenames with "wild cards" represent a group of files. The "*" and
- "?" wildcards are used as in DOS. "?" represents any single
- character, while "*" represents one or more characters.
-
- Tools you will need:
- --------------------
- To install and configure RBBS-PC, you will need a TEXT editor that can edit
- DOS text files. Most word processors imbed "control" characters in
- documents, but also allow documents to be saved in "ASCII" or "non-
- document" mode. RBBS-PC's text files can have no TABS or control
- characters (other than ANSI color commands) in them.
-
- You will also find it useful to have a "test" computer available, with a
- separate phone line. In this way, you can call your RBBS-PC and see the
- connection from both ends. While not essential, a test machine can be
- extremely helpful during configuration.
