  10.     This document  discusses the  technical aspects of  installing, configuring
  11.     and running  RBBS-PC.  You  should already  be familiar with  the following
  12.     subjects  in order  to  fully understand  the  concepts presented  in  this
  13.     document:

  16.        - DOS file organization
  17.        - DOS Batch files
  18.  
  19.     Consult  your  modem owner's  manual, and  your  DOS command  and technical
  20.     references for details on these items.

  22.     Conventions:
  23.     ------------
  24.     This manual makes extensive use of examples.  The following conventions are
  25.     used:
  26.  
  27.        - Items in CAPS are to be entered as shown.
  28.        - Items in lowercase, or surrounded in <.> are "replaceable" parameters.
  29.        - Filenames  with "wild cards" represent a group  of files.  The "*" and
  30.          "?"  wildcards  are  used  as  in  DOS.    "?"  represents  any single
  31.          character, while "*" represents one or more characters.

  33.     Tools you will need:
  34.     --------------------
  35.     To install and configure RBBS-PC, you will need a TEXT editor that can edit
  36.     DOS  text  files.   Most  word  processors  imbed  "control" characters  in
  37.     documents,  but  also allow  documents  to  be saved  in  "ASCII" or  "non-
  38.     document"  mode.    RBBS-PC's  text  files can  have  no  TABS  or  control
  39.     characters (other than ANSI color commands) in them.

  41.     You will also find  it useful to have a  "test" computer available, with  a
  42.     separate phone line.  In  this way, you can  call your RBBS-PC and see  the
  43.     connection from  both ends.   While not  essential, a test  machine can  be
  44.     extremely helpful during configuration.
