- WHAT LOGINFO DOES
- -----------------
-
- LOGINFO looks at a log file and then uses the information in the
- file to compile statistics. LOGINFO was written for RA logs, however
- it may work with other logs. LOGINFO uses your log file data to do
- many things. It creates a summary of message area usage (how many
- messages were posted in each area). It produces a report of how
- many total callers, how many at each baud rate (up to 9600), BBS callers,
- uploads, downloads, etc. Finally, it tells who called and tells what each
- person did while on line. A help window has been added so that you may
- easily use LOGINFO. Do not press ESCAPE to exit this window unless you
- want to leave the program. Most of the functions are called by using the
- function keys, except, color configuration which is Ctrl-C.
-
-
- EASY PREVIEW OF LOGINFO
- -----------------------
-
- If you are anxious to see what LOGINFO does, without taking five to
- ten minutes to configure it, there is a simple way. Just use any text
- editor (EDLIN if neccassary) and change the line C:\RA\RA.LOG (first
- line without a ; ) in LOGINFO.CNF to the path and filename of your log
- file. Then run the program by typing LOGINFO at the DOS prompt. This
- will show you what LOGINFO looks like and how easy and useful it will
- be to you. After you've done that follow the section on configuration
- below to get the most out of LOGINFO.
-
-
- HOW TO CONFIGURE RA LOGINFO
- ---------------------------
-
- The hardest part about using this program is the configuration.
- This usually only needs to be done once, but if you add or delete
- message areas the configuration is easy to change using a text editor.
- Setup can be done one of two ways. You can use a text editor to edit
- LOGINFO.CNF or run INFOCNF.EXE. Follow the directions carefully and make
- sure you have a printed copy of one of your logs (it will be needed to
- answer a majority of the questions).
- If you use a text editor you can see the sample configuration. Some
- of these will not be needed to be changed if you are running RA.
- It is suggested that you use a text editor, but you can configure
- the program by running INFOCNF.EXE. If you want to see the sample
- configuration use TYPE (or another Text file Viewer) to look at
- LOGINFO.CNF before running INFOCNF.EXE.
- In previous versions, the color configuration was setup in
- LOGINFO.CNF. This is now done in the program by hitting Ctrl-C. This
- makes it easier to change the colors and allows you to see how the colors
- will look together.
-
-
- SPECIAL CONFIGURATION NOTES
- ---------------------------
-
- Not all of the message areas and message area identifiers have to
- be used. Just leave the line blank (no text OR spaces) when using a
- text editor or hit return when asked for the message area when running
- the configuration program. If you only leave how the message area is
- shown on the screen blank that area will still show up.
- The last twenty message area identifiers can be used to count
- the same message area twice (or different things on the same log line).
- The first twenty exit the counting procedure as soon as they are found,
- but the last twenty check the remaining message area counters.
- When entering the names to be used on the message info screen,
- remember that LOGINFO automatically puts a ':' at the end of your
- identifier.
- If you have D'Bridge writing to your log file, you will need to
- run KILLEOF.COM with your log named RA_DB.LOG to remove the End Of File
- marks that D'Bridge writes to the file before running LOGINFO.EXE.
- LOGINFO.EXE turns off the cursor on a 386 and some 286's. If the
- cursor is not off on your computer try running LINFO286.EXE.
-
