  5. What is RA-PONG:

  8. Well.. Everybody is doing online arcade games these days.. So I felt that
  9. I couldn't stay behind..;-)) Which is the main reason I wrote this little
  10. BBS version of the old PONG game. Just for the fun of it..
  11.  
  12. The idea is simple: You, the player have a bat, there's a ball and 3 walls..
  13. Keep the ball bouncing around as long as possible.
  14.  
  15. Target of the game is to become KING PONG and collect fame among your
  16. colleague players! (Not to mention among the people of your phone company ;-)
  17.  
  18.  
  19. Scoring:
  20. ========

  22.   - For every time the ball hits your bat you get <LEVEL> pongs.
  23.     So, on level 1, you get 1 pong, level 2 you get 2 pongs, etc.
  24.   - Every 25 pongs you get a free ball.

  26. If you don't stop the ball from getting of the screen, you loose a bal.
  27. By default you get 3 balls (but the sysop can overrule this value)
  28.  
  29. Every 50 pongs, you gain a level and loose 8 positions of the left side of
  30. the screen. The ball and the cursor becomes invisable in that part of the
  31. playing area. Which makes it even more difficult to score points!
  32. After level 7, things stay as they are but you get 10 points for every
  33. hit you make. Wonder if anyone gets that far..;)

  35. If the sysop installed a value, it's also possible togain online time
  36. while moving to the next level..

  38. How to Play:

  41. You can use the Arrow-Up key to move the bat Up and the Arrow-Down
  42. Key to move it down.

  44. Press 'Q' to abort a game. You get back to the main menu. BUT as long as you're
  45. playing on level 1, you can't quit without loosing your chance on the hall of
  46. fame!

  48. If the game doesn't respond to your arrow-up/arrow-down keys turn on the
  49. numlock. the 8 and 2 key are also accepted.

  52. The Menu:

  55. There are 6 choices in the mainmenu:

  57.    [H] See the hall of fame.
  58.  
  59.        Shows the hall of fame which contains King Pong and the 14 best
  60.        PONG players.

  63.    [P] Play PONG

  65.        Play a game of remote pong. To abort a game you can press the Q
  66.        key. Even if you bail out, if your score is high enough (Higher
  67.        than the other scores OR higher than you own best score until
  68.        now) you get into the hall of fame.

  71.    [S] Toggle Sound effects
  72.  
  73.        RA-PONG does ANSI music to make noises on your remote terminal.
  74.        Pitty enough there aren't to many communication programs which
  75.        support music. The default value is OFF.

  78.    [T] Test soundeffects.

  80.        This send a small piece of ANSI music to your communication
  81.        program. Since there are 2 kinds of ANSI music (terminated with a
  82.        #13 or a #14) AND because not that many programs support it at all,
  83.        this is the way to find out if you can use it. If you don't hear
  84.        a thing, you're out of luck...
