- Opus-FAM started out as a simple file area manager, and has grown
- into a rather complex program. It contains a file area list generator
- which allows custom file lists. It may be used locally, or remotely.
- You as a sysop can control which areas your assistants can manage,
- and which functions they may perform.
-
- The point I'm trying to make here is that there are really too many
- options and features to be tested individually for each new release.
-
- So I would like to hear from you if you find something that is broke,
- missing, or nice-to-have. Netmail is preferred, since I only peruse a
- few echos occasionally.
-
- File requests are honored 23 hrs/day. OFAM will get you the latest
- released version, and OFAMBETA will get you the latest beta.
-
- Please note that beta versions do not contain full documentation.
- Documentation is available, use the magic name OFAMDOC.

-
- Here's a list of some new features that didn't make it into the docs.
-
-
- Create wild-card file names is back. It is available via the Rename
- function on the file maint menu.
-
- It works as follows: position to the file where you wish to insert
- the new wildcard, select Rename, the edit bar will appear at the
- file name where you positioned. Simply ignore (write over) the filename
- that's there. Opus-FAM will look for the wildcard characters "*?", and
- if it finds a wildcard character, it knows that this isn't a rename.
- A new entry will be created for the wildcard, and the area will be
- searched for any matching files/entries. Any that are found will be
- flagged as expanded, and moved behind the new wildcard entry.
-
- For Opus 1.70 users, a new feature that allows you to merge file
- descriptions from a files.bbs style file. When you select alt-m from
- the file maintenance menu in an area, if a files.bbs is found there,
- any orphan files or files with blank descriptions will have the
- description updated with the description found for that file in the
- files.bbs.
-
- The list files newer than output has been modified to output the
- area header/title when the area contains a file to be listed.
- Previously, the file headers/titles for all the areas was output.
-
- You can now shell to DOS from the file maint menu via the ! key.
-
- For Opus 1.70, the X menu has been expanded to allow you
- to automatically pull in the sysop name as the uploader, and you
- can set the upload date to the current date or the filedate.
-
- The editor will now allow hi-bit characters in file descriptions.
-
- Cautions:
- It appears that EGA 43 line mode isn't working on DOS 5.0. Looks
- like the video info structure format changed.
