- This command returns the user to the Main Menu.
- :3
- Functions available for expanded HELP
-
- The database menu of TPBoard allows you to create Reports from a
- dBaseIII (tm) compatible database. The names and descriptions of
- available databases can be listed by selecting C)hange_database.
-
- Essentially, the database menu allows you to access a database that
- the sysop has placed online. To begin accessing the currently selected
- database, just select B)rowse; this will display the current data
- to the screen. You can also change the layout of the data by selecting
- the R)eport_format command.
-
- More advanced features involve F)iltering on data fields to select
- which records from the database to display, M)aking a report file
- and D)ownloading the file, etc.
-
- The steps to creating a report are:
-
- 1) Select a database with the C)hange_database command.
- 2) Select a report format. This determines how the report will look
- and how the data from the database is displayed in the report.
- 3) F)ilter the report. This process gradually weeds out information
- you may not want.
- 4) M)ake the report. The report is created using the format you
- selected and for all the records included by your filter.
- 5) You may now V)iew the report on-line; D)ownload the report to
- your machine; or start over at any of the steps 1..4
-
- or
-
- 4) B)rowse the database to the screen. The only difference between
- Browsing and Viewing is that a View looks at a report file that
- has been completed on disk; the Browse command displays to the
- screen as it searches the database and does NOT leave a report
- file for downloading.
-
- :3C
- [C] Change current dataase
-
- There may be many different databases available on the board. You must
- select the database you wish to work with.
- :3D
- [D] Download a report file
-
- Once you have M)ade a report file, you can download the results to
- your system. After selecting D)ownload, you will be asked for the
- protocol to use.
- :3F
- [F] Filter on a specific field
-
- In order to make a report, you must first specify which data in the
- database to include in the report. This is done by "filtering" the
- data on various fields of the database. For example, consider a database
- list of all bulletin boards in the country. If you wanted a list of
- all programming boards, look for "program" in the name of the bbs.
-
- Or, if you wanted only local boards, you could search for boards
- whose phone numbers begin with your areacode.
-
- Filtering allows you to:
-
- - select all records
- - unselect all records
- - select a field and a data range
- - select a field and a data phrase
-
- :3G
- [G] Goodbye - Logoff
-
- This command is available in all subsystems. It is used to terminate
- the remote session. You will be given the opportunity to enter any
- comments or questions to the sysop.
-
- When this is done, the system will disconnect, and display the amount
- of time the call used as well as your NetMail account balance, should
- you have an account established that will allow you to send NetMail.
- :3H
- [H] HELP command
-
- On each main system menu there is a [H]elp command. By typing H and
- return, you will be shown a menu of brief commands that are similar to
- the Menu commands. Some will be expanded slightly. If the user needs
- additional help with a specific command on the menu displayed, then the
- user can type the letter H, followed by a space and then the Letter
- that expanded Help is needed. This will display additional information
- about the command in question.
- :3L
- [L] List the fields in the current database
-
- In order to understand the data in a database, it is sometimes
- necessary to know what the data fields in the database are called.
- This option will list the names of the fields in the selected database.
- :3M
- [M] Make a report file
-
- This is the option that actually creates the report file. Before you
- can VIEW a report, you must first make it. Note that if you only want
- to see the data on screen (if you dont plan to download a report to
- your system), the B)rowse command will serve better than M)ake.
- :3R
- [R] Select a report format
-
- Information from a database can be displayed in any of several
- pre-defined formats.
- :3S
- [S] Sort the current database
-
- The SORT option is not available at this time.
- :3V
- [V] View a report file
-
- After you have selected a report format and have made a report, you can
- view the output using this option. You can also elect to send the
- report to your computer. (see [D]ownload command)
-
- :3B
- [B] Browse the database
-
- You can quickly see the database and the records you've selected by
- Browsing the database to the screen. This command works exactly like
- the M)aking a report file except that the data goes straight to the
- screen instead of to a file.
- :4
- The system found your name in the list of unacceptable names, you are
- now being politely logged-off.
-
- Goodbye.........

- message area or enter "?" and <RETURN> to get a menu of the message
- areas available. If the entry cannot be found, a short version of the
- menu will be displayed and the system will once again prompt for the

- :6D
- [D] Download XRS Mailbag
-
- You will be asked:
-
- "Do you want to Download an XRS mailbag? (y/N) >>"

- reason, it is important to make sure that you are in the correct
- message area before entering messages.
- :6F
- [F] Files system menu

- :6H
- [H] HELP command
-
- On each main system menu there is a [H]elp command. By typing H and

- user can type the letter H, followed by a space and then the Letter
- that expanded Help is needed. This will display additional information
- about the command in question.
- :6M
- [M] Make or build message
-
- This command permits a user to create a message off-line with his text
- editor and by using X-modem upload, a message will be created on the

- system will ask confirmation of (y/N) before beginning the message
- building.
- :6N
- [N] Check for new mail
-
- This command allows a user to check for new mail that is addressed to
- the user. If the user selected "N" or the default answer to "Check for
- new mail (y/N) ?" question at logon, then the user would not see any
- new mail addressed to him/her.
- :6Q
- [Q] Quick-scan messages
-
- After typing "Q", the system will prompt for the starting message
- number. If the message number cannot be found, the system will start
- with next sequential message unless the requested number is outside the
- range displayed in brackets. In that case, the system will start the
- scan with the next message after the highest message read the last time
- you logged in. If the message is addressed to you privately, a "*"

- 16*FDDEV
-
- Those areas marked with a * are active in the Combined Message area.
- The above display is automatic and remains within a loop UNTIL a

- it is turned off; and vice versa.
-
- :6U
- [U] Upload an XRS mailbag
-
- Upon selecting [U]pload, you'll see: "Prepare to upload XRS packet
- now." and on the next line: "Protocol is currently Q, Change it ?". A
- No or N will use Q protocol, Yes or Y will display the temporary

- :7A
- [A] Arc/Lbr/Zip/Pak/Lzh entry/exit
-
- Archives are used to place a group of related files in a single file
- known as an ARChive file. The compression of the data saves time on
- file transfers, and also helps cut down on the amount of disk space
- used. In order to simplify archive usage on this system, the "A"
- command may be used to "enter" an archive. When this is done, the
- system will prompt for the archive filename and then attempt to open
- the file for use. If successful, all subsequent Files subsystem
- commands will relate to the files within the chosen archive. The other
- files in the present File Section will not be accessible. If not, an
- appropriate error message will be issued. If you are already in an
- archive, entering "A" will cause the system to close the archive and
- return to normal display of the files in the present File Section.
- :7C
- [C] Change file area
-
- When you first log in, you will be placed in the "LOGIN" files section.
- (In the Message system, there were message areas; here we switch the
- terminology to Sections.) To access other files sections in the system,
- use this command. After typing "C", enter the name of the desired file
- section or enter "?" to get a menu of the file sections available. If
- the section name cannot be found, you will see a list of the section
- names available and the system will once again prompt for the area
- name.
-
- If you are in a compressed file (see next description) when this
- command is entered, the compressed file will be closed before the
- system prompts for the new section.
- :7D
- [D] Download file using default protocol - (TPBoard --> you) (download)
-
- After entering "D", you will be prompted to enter the file name of the
- program you want sent to your computer. If the system can find the
- file in the current area, it will display the transfer time and then
- the message "Ready to send..." At this point, if you are not using
- batch protocol, you must initiate the download from your end.
-
- When the file transfer is complete, the system will return to the Files
- subsystem prompt. You can request files that are not in the current
- files section.
-
- If you are using a batch protocol, you may request a series of up to 10
- files, each of which may be in different files sections.
- :7F
- [F] File descriptions
-
- This function will give a list of files that are in the file section
- you are currently in, and a one line description of each file. There is
- a file search option in the [F]ile list command. This will keep you
- from having to scan the entire list just to get a description of a
- specific file. The search option supports partial names and will show
- all files that match the partial name. If [N] is selected for no
- search, you will be shown a full screen of file descriptions.
-
- FileName.Ext No: nnn mm/dd/yy Downloads: nn Size: bytes
-
- or if [Z] toggle Size/Time option had selected DownLoad time, then the
- "Size: bytes" would be replaced with "Dl Time: mm/ss".
-
- On the last line of the display there are several options that are new
- to TpBoard: C)ontinuous (no pauses in display), Q)uit (return to the
- system prompt, I)nfo (display extended description if available) M)ark
- (up to 20 files can be marked for download), (0 marked) shows how many
- files you have marked for download and CR) for next page.
- :7G
- [G] Goodbye - Logoff
-
- This command is available in all subsystems. It is used to terminate
- the remote session. You will be given the opportunity to enter any
- comments or questions to the sysop.
-
- When this is done, the system will disconnect, and display the amount
- of time the call used as well as your NetMail account balance, should
- you have an account established that will allow you to send NetMail.
- :7H
- [H] HELP command
-
- On each main system menu there is a [H]elp command. By typing H and
- return, you will be shown a menu of brief commands that are similar to
- the Menu commands. Some will be expanded slightly.
-
- If the user needs additional help with a specific command on the menu
- displayed, then the user can type the letter H, followed by a space and
- then the Letter that expanded Help is needed.
-
- This will display additional information about the command in question.
- :7L
- [L] Locate file(s)
-
- This command allows you to search through all available file sections
- to locate a particular file or file group. Partial filenames are
- accepted, DOS wildcards are not.
- :7M
- [M] Message system menu
-
- This comand returns you to the Message subsystem .
- :7N
- [N] New files list
-
- After entering this command, you are prompted for the number of days
- previous that you want the listing to stop at. If you just hit return,
- the list will show only those files that have been uploaded since you
- were last on.
-
- The three line format is as follows:
-
- 1. FILENAME.EXT FILE SECTION UPLOAD DATE NAME OF UPLOADER
- 2. TIMES DOWNLOADED LAST DOWNLOAD DATE
- 3. [----------------75 CHARACTER DESCRIPTION OF FILE----------------]
-
- The File Section name is entered by the sender to tell the sysop where
- the file should eventually be stored. If a file is listed as "GAMES
- SECTION", after upload it will stay in the NEWIN section for a while
- and then be moved to the GAMES section. (The Section names here are
- only an example, and may not exist on all systems.)
- :7P
- [P] Protocol
-
- This command will allow you to change the default file transfer
- protocol that you selected on your first login. You will be prompted
- for a new protocol, and can hit '?' to obtain a listing of the
- available protocols.
-
- TPBoard uses the default protocol that you have set whenever it
- performs file transfers. You can change it for the current transfer
- only by giving the command followed by the protocol letter. For
- example, if you default protocol was Zmodem, and you wanted to switch
- to Ymodem Batch for this upload only, you would give the command 'UB'
- instead of 'U'.
- :7Q
- [Q] Quick-scan
-
- This function works essentially the same as the Locate command in that
- it will search ALL file areas. However, where Locate asks whether you
- wish to search for any files by the leading characters of filenames,
- Quick Scan prompts for a phrase to locate anywhere in the filename OR
- description. If you enter MODEM as the search string using Locate, you
- would find all files whose names begin with MODEM. If you enter MODEM
- as the search string using Quick Scan, you will find all files that
- contain the phrase MODEM either in the filename or description.
- :7R
- [R] Directory of files
-
- This command alphabetically displays the directory of files for the
- current section. If you are in a Lbr, Arc, Pak, Zip, or Lzh, then only
- those files contained in that compressed file will be displayed,
- otherwise, the Section directory will be displayed. The file size will
- also be displayed according to the current filesize mode (see filesize
- description).
- :7S
- [S] Sort files method
-
- By selecting S at the files prompt you will shown the options for
- sorting the current directory. These files will be displayed, sorted,
- by the [R]aw dir command or by the [V]erbose command or by the [F]ile
- description command. The options are: N)ame, E)xt, S)ize or D)ate.
- :7T
- [T] Type a file (includes compressed member files)
-
- An Text file is one that contains readable characters rather than
- machine code. This command may be used to display the contents of these
- files. You will be asked if you want page breaks which will pause the
- display at the number of lines per page as set in your user parameters.
- Xon/Xoff may also be used to pause the display.
-
- NOTE: This command may be used to transfer readable files even though
- your computer does not support the Xmodem protocol. If your machine has
- a feature to 'Capture' what is printed on your screen, you can use it
- to get the file transferred.
- :7U
- [U] Upload file using default protocol (you --> TPBoard) (UPLOAD)
-
- This command allows TPBoard to receive a file from you. The System
- will automatically respond using whatever protocol you chose as your
- default. Files will be received in a private area for Sysop approval
- before being released for others to download.
-
- If you are enrolled in a conference section, TPBoard will write files
- that you send to the conference section directly. They will be
- immediately available for other conference members to download.
-
- Type the [U] command and then the file name if requested. TPBoard will
- tell you the disk space available and it is Ready to Receive. After the
- file transfer has completed successfully, TPBoard will ask for a
- Section designation and short description of the file. The file will
- remain hidden until it is released by the Sysop.
- :7V
- [V] Verbose directory
-
- This command alphabetically displays the directory of files for the
- current section. If you are in a Lbr, Arc, Pak, Zip, or Lzh, only those
- files inside of the compressed file will be displayed; otherwise, the
- Section directory will be displayed. This display differs from the
- [R]directory display in that the filesize is shown in bytes, not
- kilobytes, and the time stamp of the file is shown. One file is listed
- per line.
- :7Z
- [Z] Filesize/time display
-
- Initially, the file sizes in the directory display will be shown in "k"
- (1024 bytes). The system can also display file sizes in minutes and
- seconds of transfer time (based on the current modem speed). Each time
- this command is entered, the system will alternate between these two
- methods.

- :9Y
- [Y] Enter or edit your birthdate
-
- By selecting this option the user may enter a different or corrected
- birthdate. At present this BBS will require the user to re-enter his

- your name in the event that your password has been compromised.
- :A
- Are you an old user or a new user? Read on...
-
- Your name wasn't found in out list of existing callers. If you are
- already a caller here and you entered your name incorrectly, you may
- answer 'N' to the following question and try again.
-
- If you started your login process with a "handle", please answer 'N'
- and login again with your real name. Handles are not allowed on
- this system and those registering with handles will not be validated.
- (If your confused, this means you must use your real name!).
-
- If you wish to be a on-going caller here, you MUST provide a real name
- with a real phone number where you can be verified. Handles or fake
- names are absolutely not allowed here. I will probably NOT call all
- new users but will delete any user who's name appears to be a handle.
