- │ *--> WELCOME TO THE HIGH TECH WORLD OF ORACOMM(tm) SOFTWARE <--* │
- └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
-
- You have just entered upon a new experience, that of electronic data
- communications, with what we believe is the finest BBS Software that
- is currently available, ORACOMM(tm)! By following a few, simple and
- easy steps you will have YOUR new ORACOMM(tm) System up and on-line
- with a minimal amount of effort.
-
- While your Personal ORACOMM(tm) BBS will run from two High Density
- Disks, it is strongly recommended that you install the Personal
- ORACOMM(tm) on a Hard Disk Drive, in a sub-directory called C:\BBS.
-
- First, check that your CONFIG.SYS has the parameter FILES=35. If
- the number of files is less than 35, change it to 35 and reboot.
- If you are running DOS 3.0, 3.1, or 3.2, run FILES3X.COM included with
- the Oracomm files immediately before running BBS.EXE to expand
- the DOS file limit. FILES3X.COM is part of FILES20.ARC and the
- complete .ARC file with documentation can be downloaded from
- Oracomm Central BBS at 619/346-1608. Next, run CHKDSK to see how
- much memory is available to Oracomm. CHKDSK should show at least
- 540,000 bytes available for Oracomm to run properly.
-
- Starting your Personal ORACOMM(tm) is easy. First, create a directory
- on your C Hard Drive, using the MS-DOS, MKDIR Command. To do this,
- make sure you are in the C ROOT Directory (C:\). At the DOS Prompt,
- enter the following;
-
- C:\ > MKDIR BBS <enter>
-
- Now, copy all the files for the Personal ORACOMM(tm) to this directory
- using the DOS Copy Command, as follows. Be sure to change your SOURCE
- Drive to A:, first.
-
- A:> Copy A:*.* C:\BBS <enter>
-
- Now that you have the files copied, we strongly recommend that you
- place the initial copies (your floppy disks) away for safe keeping,
- just in case you need to restore any files that may become corrupt.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- The next step will create the operational files for your Personal
- ORACOMM(tm) BBS. Change your active directory to the BBS Directory
- that you just created. At the DOS Prompt, first change from Drive A
- to Drive C by entering the following;
-
- A:> C: <enter>
- Now enter; C:> cd\BBS <enter>
-
- This should place you into the newly created Directory called BBS.
-
- Next, we recommend that you Print the SysOp Manual for a detailed
- explanation of the many features of your Personal ORACOMM.
- This can be accomplished using any normal printing program. Your new
- Personal ORACOMM(tm) may use COM1 or COM2. Oracomm comes with line 1
- set to COM2, but you can use the IL command to set it to COM1 later.
- Oracomm is also set for a 1200 baud modem. If you are using a 2400 baud
- modem, you will have to change the modem commands with the IM command.
- If you do not have a 1200 baud modem on COM2, bring up your new
- Personal ORACOMM(tm) by entering the following at your Main Prompt Line:
-
- C:\BBS > BBS NOMODEM <enter>
-
- After a few seconds you should see the Personal ORACOMM(tm) Control
- Window. Press A to start all lines. Now, Press Function Key F1.
- This will allow you to look into Line 1. Next, press CTRL-K to log on
- locally. ORACOMM will prompt you if you would like ANSI GRAPHICS?
- For the time being, enter <N>o and press <enter>. At a later date, you
- can modify your Personal ORACOMM to show ANSI Color. (See the Sysop Manual
- for details) ORACOMM will prompt you for the ACCOUNT CODE. Enter SYSOP at
- this prompt. Then ORACOMM will prompt you for the Password. The
- initial Password has been set to TEST. Enter TEST and proceed.
- We suggest that you utilize the Change Password feature under the N
- Command selection to change this Password to allow protection of your
- system. You have now gained access to your Personal ORACOMM(tm) and
- can proceed to Customize your BBS to your exacting specifications
- using the I command. For specific details on the I parameters,
- consult your SysOp Manual. After you have set up all of
- the Parameters, you can log off by entering <G>oodbye. Then Hit the
- HOME Key to restore the Control Window. Now enter <N> to shut the
- System down. You can then bring your Personal ORACOMM(tm) On-Line,
- using any combination of the On-Line Parameters specified in the
- SysOp Manual.
-
- Thats all there is to getting on-line. However, there are many, many
- sophisticated features of ORACOMM(tm) that require certain set up
- parameters. To get the most from your new Personal ORACOMM(tm) be
- sure to read the Sysop Manual.
-
