  2. Maximus-CBCS v1.02 Slimepatch #2: [xtern_dos] / Xtern_Dos fix (attempt #2)

  4. This is a simple program which will patch MAX.EXE, and fix the "Out of
  5. files - Cannot load overlay" bug.  This bug usually surfaces if more
  6. than 5-6 consecutive [xtern_dos] calls have been made during one
  7. session.  Both of the MECCA [xtern_dos] and the MENUS.CTL Xtern_Dos
  8. tokens were effected.
  9.  
  10. NOTE: An earlier patch, MP102-1, was distributed about a month ago.
  11. Unfortunately, although this patch did cure the problem, for some
  12. systems, it also caused a number of harmful side-effects.  If
  13. you still have MP102-1 around, then delete it.  Also, if you're running
  14. a version of Maximus which was patched by MP102-1, then please extract
  15. a new version of MAX.EXE from the distribution archives, since the
  16. patch will cause all kinds of trouble.  THIS PATCH MUST BE USED ON
  17. A CLEAN COPY OF MAX.EXE, TAKEN STRAIGHT FROM THE DISTRIBUTION ARCHIVE!

  19. The only drawback to using this patch will hopefully be that you will
  20. be unable to use the ">" and "<" redirection characters when running
  21. an Xtern_Run or [xtern_run] command.  However, the ">" and "<"
  22. characters for [xtern_dos] and Xtern_Dos will still work, so this
  23. should only be a minor inconvenience.
